machine gun kelly
Teefs right. Many state universities are considering the same thing. This isn’t going to end. For a typical phrase, I’ll be a nickel more colleges than not will do the virtual learning thing in the fall, as I now with my second son graduating from high school Are being told it’s likely they will be doing it virtually.

Harvard is bringing 40% of their student body back to campus. But 100% of their classes are online, leading them to sue the Federal Gov't which has a rule international student visas are invalid if 100% of the learning is online. They're planning to test everyone every 3 days. I don't understand their thinking, unless too large a percentage of their faculty said "hell no I won't go!" when it came to in-person teaching. Cornell Campus is open to all students, but the classes will be a mixture of in-person (with an online component for those who can't get into the country, and for those in quarantine) and online. They have a somewhat controversial report that they believe they will see a lower incidence of covid-19 in small-town Ithaca if they open (and therefore can require students to sign a compact and commit to regular testing every 5 days or so, adjustable as needed) than if they go 100% virtual!!!!! The reason is that more than half their students live off campus and said they would return to Ithaca whether or not Cornell was in-person or online. They modeled there will be more infections if the students return but there is no requirement or mechanism for testing. [Cornell is gearing up to do its own testing of pooled samples, using the RT-PCR capacity of the veterinary school diagnostic lab.] 30% of the faculty do not wish to teach in-person.

Doc Brown
No college football revenue will devastate many athletic departments. It also creates a headache for the NFL when it comes to draft time next year. I hope they can find a way to play a spring season as fall isn't looking too good right now. Yeah, and they still want the full (almost) $50k tuition. You'd think they'd offer some type of discount since these kids aren't going to be getting 100% of what Harvard classes offer yet they're still expected to cough up 100% of the tuition.

PetermansRedemption
It would definitely be interesting to have spring college football. Can’t say I would mind it if the NFL can get off the ground on time. In fact, I’d probably prefer it. It may increase the ratings for both the NFL and college. Football funds almost all the other sports so they will play I'm taking the "conference games only" announcement by the Big 10 to be good news. This should now mean full speed ahead, this is the plan, otherwise they would have waited to make a judgment closer to the season. This is the judgment from them and I will take that. It’s still going to be super weird based on the projected changes in the schedule but such is 2020.

Mango
Buff State Athletics seem to be unsustainable, and they reference that it is in line with NCAA and SUNY guidelines/mandates. Athlete tests positive, everybody they come in contact with is in quarantine for two weeks. https://coronavirus.buffalostate.edu/sites/coronavirus.buffalostate.edu/files/uploads/PDF/restartplan.pdf Quote All student athletes will be required daily and immediately preceding any sport activities to undergo screening and symptom checks. If any athlete answers yes to any questions on the questionnaire or has a fever above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit before a game, they will be required to be tested and will not be allowed to participate in the game. If the test is positive the student will be isolated and all those who were in close contact with this student will be quarantined for 14 days. All sports activities related to this group will be cancelled for 14 days and with no further exposures. This complies with NCAA guidelines. I read through the guidelines in the link below. Maybe there is something a little more authoritative out there, but I didn't see it. The link is not as strict as what Buff State is doing. http://www.ncaa.org/sport-science-institute/resocialization-collegiate-sport-action-plan-considerations

Just because I know schools are struggling financially, and football is seen as a quick fix. On top of that, not terribly thrilled with the reporting from the NFL. We have reports of a handful of players/coaches with COVID in the NFL. Peyton, Von Miller, and Zeke. The NHL, MLB, and NBA are at least giving total players infected. They are at about 30 each as of earlier this week. Just based on roster size and practice squads, the NFL should probably be in the 70-90 range, and that is giving them the benefit of the doubt.
