But that's a two way street.  A couple of forced 3 & outs of the Eagles in the 3rd quarter would have gone a long towards keeping the D fresh.

It would have, but the Eagles game was largely about offensive failure for the Bills. They got the short field they need after a takeaway on STs and turned it over on downs. You’re not beating many teams in the NFL scoring 13.

not sure but

the Sean Taylor game, the Bills took advantage of 1 play .

December 2, 2007- Rian Lindell hits a game-winning field goal to keep the Bills' playoff hopes alive against the Redskins. This was Washington's first game after the tragic death of Sean Taylor.

I remember this game.  Interesting to note that the Bills had some pretty good skill players back when Edwards played.  I think it's fair to say that Lee Evans & Fred Jackson are more explosive then anyone on the current Bill's O.

I disagree.  It contributed for sure but to me our defensive letdown was the main reason we lost that game.  The Bills are built to win more 13 - 10 games then they are to win 34 - 31 games.

No doubt failing to score after the fumbled punt was a big deal.  But it's not like we got the ball in the red zone.  it was at the Eagles 44 as I recall.

And it's fair to say that the Eagles 1st TD right out of halftime was as big or even bigger momentum changer then Allen's fumble right before half.  And the Eagles last 2 TD drives probably ran off almost 14 minutes in TOP costing the Bills at least 2 offensive possessions.

That's why for the Redskins game the most important thing is for the Bills Defense to get back on track.  We can't give Washington the kind of long time consuming drives that we yielded to BOTH the Eagles & Dolphins.  And if Haskins is QB it's on the D to force TO's on the Redskins side of the field.  Our offense needs all the help it can get and after 7 games it's only received the ball in the opponents red zone ONCE.

I think I would say that the 2007 team's top players were better, but that this team has better depth. I'm not worried about Kroft jumping out of the back of the endzone to catch a ball.

How Worried Should the Buffalo Bills Be about the Washington Redskins?

1182568127.jpg.0.jpg

the defense is the real story. Even with the loss last week, the Bills are still #3 in the league in yards allowed, and #5 in points allowed. Jordan Poyer, TreDavious White, Micah Hyde, and Levi Wallace form one of the more formidable defensive backfields in the league. Meanwhile, pass-rush specialist Jordan Phillips and old friend Lorenzo Alexander key a unit that has remained stout, even in the wake of Kyle Williams’ retirement at the end of 2018.

How Worried Should They Be?: Not too worried. I doubt many Redskins fans had the Bills game circled as one of the tougher ones on the 2019 schedule back in August. Yet, here we are.

The Bills’ defense makes them a legitimate playoff contender. They gave the Patriots their toughest game of the season by far. They’re less potent offensively, but that hasn’t mattered most weeks.

AP played through high and low ankle sprains last week against Vikings.

I wouldn't relax about this.  AP can still gash us for 200+ if McD and Frazier didn't make a few adjustments.

Agreed.  Washington is a funny team.  You think of them generally as being pure crap, but look at some of their games.  Gave Eagles a good fight and lost 32-27; lost 9-0 to the 49ers; they beat the Dolphins by a point; gave Dallas a pretty good fight in a 31-21 loss...

I guess the key is they are doing a lot of losing, but they can come out on Sunday and give us some trouble, just as any team in the NFL can against any other.

Have to be prepared, as always!

I'd like to see a few screen passes to Singletary.  Why the hell don't we run screens?

It ought to be a staple, but somehow it isn't. And maybe establishing the run game a bit so the play action is more plausible. Football 101 or maybe I'm just old.

The times they have tried it usually failed.  Same way last year.

Why is that do you think? Is it a problem with the skill set of the o-line, Josh Allen? You'd think one ought to be able to get reasonably proficient at the screen.

Not really.  AP can still bring it and is a physical runner.

I think the highest total for any RB this year vs the Bills D is Barkley at 107. Is AP 100 yards/game better than Barkley at this point? Even BOTH  of phil’s RBs combined only reached 170 and that was with the threat of the eagles passing game.

I guess we'll find out.  Maybe there's a chance that McD and Frazier fixed the problem.  If they didn't, I wouldn't put it past AP.

Just saying... it would be an outlier. Even if nothing is fixed.

Yes really. He hasn’t run for 200 since his 20’s, he’s on an awful offense, and the bills had one bad game against the run.... 100? Sure. 200? Come on man.

it’s a fairly dramatic take.

Let’s not act like this has been a problem all season... it was one game against a team with some serious horsepower up front.

the bills went into that game with the #9 rush d. And are still in the middle of the pack at 17. Again, you’re being a bit excessive here.... let’s worry about that 200 when it actually makes sense, like when we travel to Dallas vs that line and zeke.

I don’t know why, But it seems like we haven’t had a solid screen game since Chan’s offense for whatever reason.

I agree. It's puzzling and annoying, because it's proven as an effective counter against aggressive defenses.

I don’t think so. He has Brown between the hashes open. Sitting in a soft spot. At the 0:03 mark Allen’s feet are set. Pass rusher is about 5-6 yards away. JB is right in front of him. Taking off is classic JA

The Bills timing on and “ selling “ of the screen is terrible. They rarely look like they have one set up to break for big yardage. Probably a mixture of issues, but you can probably start with the OL.

Pretty sure he's right. Brown isn't a read here, he's running a cross to carry the safety. Doesn't whip his head around, lazy path up into coverage...read is corner to Williams or whoever that is.  Play breaks down because LB doesn't bite on playfake.

Yep, LB wasn’t sucked in by run action. A throw to Brown there may have been jumped, wasn’t an option. Pretty much blew the play up.
