BurpleBull
I'll take Shifty over Shady everyday. Bills' have been in need of a north/south runner, who can make defenders miss, for a long time. Singletary looks like the next great Bills' RB.
akm0404
They aren't going to move Shady. He's an important piece of this team and they certainly don't need the immediate cash savings against the cap. Shady/Gore split the primary reps 60-40, with Yeldon handling a good part of the passing situation work. Mix in the rookie for a series here and there to get his feet wet while he learns to be a pro from a couple of the best to ever play. Sounds...terrible? I dunno, not seeing the problem. At any other position, sure, doesn’t sound terrible. However, you don’t draft a RB in the 3rd to stash them for a year. RB picks that high are plug and play. Kelly the Dog
The only thing the 4.66 means is if he breaks away for a 40 yard TD run, if there is a 4.4 guy chasing him stride for stride Singletray will be tackled from behind at the one, where he is a TD machine. He's extremely quick and shifty. I didn't think they would go RB until late. I think Shady is gone, unfortunately. I guess it's possible to not have any allegiance to Gore and drop him, but it's hard to see them dress 4 RBs when none really play ST.

Wonder why the Patriots selected a third round running back after drafting one in the first round last year and having another weapon at RB in James White? Granted, that's a pretty terrible franchise with an awful track record, but... I know you're firm in your beliefs, but perhaps you should reconsider. flomoe
I think it’s pretty obvious that two things happened here: 1): Beane took the top player on their board 2): This pick was for next year when Yeldon is most likely the only RB under contract this was definitely a forward thinking pick Edited April 27, 2019 by flomoe
Toesy
I think he means that if Singletary can play he is gonna play-there is little for the kid to learn-you can't teach anybody the RB position-either can do it now or he can't do it later. It’s easy when you have the GOAT QB & HC. Most teams dont stockpile RBs and plan for the future with them. This isn’t like drafting a DB to replace one you might lose in FA. RBs drafted in the 3rd Round are expected to play, not learn for a year.... especially on teams that have needs elsewhere. Ill gladly eat my words if he’s the next Shady, but the timing of this pick, after signing Gore & Yeldon, is strange, that’s all.

Then he can ride off into FA in 2020 with his head held high and maybe a chance to snag a good buck from some playoff contender looking for a change-of-pace guy with intangibles... I like Shady, I like that concept, but I just don't get the numbers. I suppose they figure that there will be injuries, and that some games Gore or maybe Yeldon will not dress. Maybe they bring Singletary around slowly and don't dress him for a few games, and really mostly redshirt him. Will be interesting. I want them to keep McCoy. Toesy
IMO they are doing the same thing with the RBs as with the OL-there is going to be a fierce competition to see who is there on opening day-I don't think anybody is totally locked in as a starting RB right now. DuckyBoys
He measures almost exactly the same size as Barry Sanders I think he'll be fine and would be a nightmare behind a good line that could pull You wont even see that guy behind his line. FlaFitz1
Absolutely LOVE this pick!!! I watch a lot of FAU football both on TV and in person and this guy can move!! There is a cliche about making someone miss in a phone booth but for him that's reality!! Every team in the conference knew he was going to get that ball, get it a lot and stacked their defense to stop him but couldn't allowing him to average 6 yards a carry. He hasn't got the fastest straight line speed but with the separation he creates by getting defenders off balance and then miss it doesn't matter. He also isn't the biggest back but he's damn tough. Plus big hits in spite of his 700+ carries? They didn't happen!!! BTW his 1.74 rushing TDs per game? Behind only Steve Owens of Oklahoma in '67, '68 and '69, Ed Marinaro of Cornell in '69, 70, and '71, and Marshall Faulk in '91, '92 and '93 oh and Faulk? 5'9" 210 - Singletary 5'7' 205 The one knock on "Motor" I would say is he didn't catch the ball a lot out of the back field but that was mostly because Kiffen's offense targeted him less and less each year. Not because he couldn't catch. 1

BillsfanAZ
I am not sure why people are confused they went RB. He isnt the RB I thought they would pick.....I was thinking Bryce Love in a later round and let him sit for the season. The Bills have two RBs at the end of their great careers that wont be under contract after this season. Ford and Murphy are not players that are going to make a difference. Get a young RB into the system and let him learn while getting some snaps in relief. It woudnt surprise me if the Bills pick a RB in next years draft too. I always think it is funny that fans watch highlights of players or watch college games and think they know more about players than NFL teams. Re receiving out of the backfield we've got Yeldon. This is going to be situational backfield by committee. I think maybe Daboll makes good use of him. Measurables aren't there but the kid looks like a gamer and a football player. I see no reason that he can’t be very effective on short swing passes or screens. Those plays generally yield easy catches and his run skills will take over after the catch.

He he has been on the field a lot in 3 years and had 51 grabs, half of high in 1 season. my point is even though this is a guy I like and I was one of the first 8 or so posters in this thread, is that I just don’t believe Singletary spells the end of McCoy’s career in Buffalo.
