Draftniks: Name your 2019 Draft "Crush"

It may be a bit early in the process to ask this question, but there's not much else to discuss, so here goes:

Every year, there's that one player that, for whatever reason, you really hope your favorite team drafts. Something about said player -- his intangibles, off-the-charts athleticism, whatever it may be -- causes you to watch absurd amounts of Youtube footage and mock him to your favorite team in every mock draft and so on.

For me last year it was Harrison Phillips. His wrestling background, high character, and nastiness on the field just screamed "McDermott's Bills".

So who is that player for you this year?

Mine is Dalton Risner, OT Kansas State. Dude is a vocal leader, has all the measurables you want, could play RT or G right out of the gate, and there was even this, about potentially playing with the Bills:

“I have a really good friend, Harrison Phillips, who plays defensive tackle for ya’ll. Another small-town, corn-fed kid like myself. I really like that guy a lot. I’d love to be in Buffalo and help out their offensive line.”

If Risner ends up in Buffalo he’s looking forward to battling his friend Phillips in practice. As the saying goes in the Buffalo locker room under coach Sean McDermott: “iron sharpens iron.”

“He’s a great player, man,” Risner said. “I’m sure we’ll throw hands at practice and I’m sure it’ll get ugly but off the field we’ll probably go get something to eat together. He’s a great football player and it’d be a battle in the trenches for sure.”

I am really liking what I am hearing about Risner.  He is certainly rising fast it seems.

My draft crush is N'Keal Harry.  His highlight real is like WR Porn.  I also really like Metcalf, expecting a big combine from him.

What round and area is Risner projected?

I think he was being looked at as a 2nd round pick, but with all the buzz around him, I think now he is potentially a first rounder.  I could be wrong, I was only mildly familiar with him, so I am just going off what I am reading really.  Im sure some other posters can shed more light on it though

I think DK Metcalf could be stud WR in a couple years

Me too...right now, Harry is my WR crush until I see what Metcalf does at the combine.  I think Metcalf has a lot of the skills Harry has, but should be faster.  Although he comes with some injury history.

But, people are hung up on Harry not having elite speed, but neither does Fitz, Hopkins, etc.  You dont have to have elite speed, and I think Harry is fast enough.  Not like he is KB slow.  I think some concerned here because of how bad KB was, but this dude is no where near that slow IMO, so looking forward to Harry 40 time.

Love Josh Allen but I'll settle for Clenin Ferrell.

Yes! Extremely productive college career, captain on a championship team, protypical size for a 4-3 DE, equally excellent in defending the run as well as rushing the passer...what's not to like? Bosa, Allen, all of the blue-chip DT's, the typical demand for QB's, and other teams' needs means that this top-5 talent could easily drop to us at #9. And he definitely fills a need since Hughes, Lawson, and Murphy could all be gone by 2020. Also, the Bills were only 26th in sacks this season with 36.

Great thread idea, by the way. I'm interested in reading everyone's "man crushes."

I bet the local restaurants are rooting for the Bills to draft him

No expert, but just from my own observation and articles/boards, he's moving up into the late first after this week so far - but could still easily drop into the second depending on FA outcomes and weeks leading up to draft. Right now I feel he'd go in the 20s.

He's my draft crush too, and would love to see this guy in Buffalo - he seemingly wants to be here, plays a physically aggressive but smart game, and would be the ideal value and need pick for our OL in a year where we have 2-3 holes. A pick like him would allow us to be okay with however FA ends up going for us. Only get a Center? No worries, Risner has experience on the edge and long arms for reach with solid quickness. No Center in FA? No worries, Risner's stock has grown as he's shown he can handle the physical and potentially cerebral components of the position. A skillful yet versatile OL guy would be ideal for our current OL situation.

Yeah, he looks and feels fast enough to me, his only knock was that he supposedly doesnt have Elite speed, but he looks fast enough and when your catch radius is like that, wow.  I love this kid.  Really excited to his 40 time...unless he runs terrible, I would be all about taking him at 9.

But, I think we can trade down to 15 with Washington and get him as no one from 10-14 should be drafting a WR.  Someone could leap frog us though in a trade up had we traded down to 15.  But I am alllllll about trading down to 15 and taking Harry (or Metcalf if he has a big combine too).  But I also have no problem not messing around and taking this kid at 9.

Yeah love this kid too.  I keep saying this is a deep and good draft at WR.  Some future studs will come out of this draft a WR.

Risner is a beast. I would take him at 9. He will bring attitude and tenacity to the O line. He reminds me of a Richie incognito/ Taylor Lewan type guy. Someone who won’t take **** from anybody.

Im no expert on him, but if hes considered a 2nd round guy, or late first, wouldnt 9 be a big reach?  Or has he risen that far up boards?

I really have taken a liking to Dexter Williams RB,ND. I think this kid has all the tools to be a 3 down back and has fresh legs, while averaging 6.4 yes per carry on only about 250ish career carries in school. Has plenty of game speed, size, and has improved his pass catching/ blocking this past year. He has yet to play his best football. Kid would be a steal in the 4th rd

Early in the draft Devin White.

Terry McLauren in the mid-rounds (although he’s lighting up Sr. Bowl Week).

Iman Marshall in the late rounds.

I love Devin White the prospect but does that make sense for us?  We have two possible perfect fits with for our defense in Milano and Edmunds.  Adding another LB, albeit potentially great LB while we’re in a system in which we play majority 2 lb sets, I just don’t know if it’s the best idea, even though I think he’s a tremendous player

As of now, would still think 9 would be a reach for Risner - but if he's there in the second, or we trade back in the first, it would be hard to pass on that. Could change as it looks like Jonah is equally falling in some boards.

I think he was more of a late 1st early 2nd kind of guy but his stock is definitely on the rise. Had really good PFF numbers and can play multiple positions. I don’t think it would be a huge reach. Mccglinchey was taken at #9 last year and it was earlier than he was projected

McGlinchey was still a guy seen as a first and even top half of the first guy by many though.  Hard to see is taking a late first or early 2nd type guy at 9.  But certainly see him as a Beane type guy in a trade back.

Here is an an exciting scenario:

Trade down to 15 with Washington.  Pick up their 2nd and another pick.

Pick 15:  Draft - N’Keal Harry (or other WR)

Trade back up into the bottom third of the first using our 2nd and a 3rd to draft Risner and we would still have a 2nd pick from the trade down.

Or if we have to, we could send both 2nds and still end up with 2 players from first 2 rounds and still have all our other picks and maybe one more extra one too from the trade down if we get a 2nd and another pick from Washington.

I didn’t think of this as for my team (although I don’t hate White). We would have ELITE speed at the LB position allowing for 3 LBs to remain on the field. A 240 LBs linebacker that runs 4.4 and dominated the SEC can play for me. He MIGHT be the best LB in football in a few years (that’s how high I am on him).

See if you can find the tape of LSU - Auburn from 2017. He looked like the best player ever.

I don't have any prospects in mind that I just "gotta have."  Deebo Samuel is growing on me though.  I think he brings all kinds of versatility  You could line him up wide or in the slot.  You could put him in the backfield and hand the ball off to him.  He's a polished, disciplined route runner who gets separation and doesn't  drop balls.  I think Daboll could have lots of fun imagining new ways to use him.

Im going with 2 crushes...OL Dalton Risner and WR Deebo Samuel

edit: just wanted to add that whatever player I want never seems to be the pick, so I fully expect Buffalo to NOT draft these two guys :)

I’m a fan of Hakeem Butler also. Especially if he runs in the 4.4s.

Love DE Josh Allen and RT Dalton Risner.

Can Bean somehow pull off a miracle and end up with all 3???? Would love it!

It's Risner for me too. The dude is a freaking animal, he'd be such a perfect addition. I'm even starting to be OK with taking him at #9 if we can't trade down a few spots. His performance this week has made him a top-20 lock.

If the Bills are able to trade back 5-10 spots in the draft and gain an extra 2nd rounder, it would be AMAZING.

I saw a national (non Bills fan) mock draft earlier that saw this exact scenario playing out. By the end of round 2, they had taken OL Jonah Williams, TE Irv Smith, and WR Marquise Brown and still had 8 picks left to work with.  *Drool*
