I mean didn’t the last regime do this with Jerry Hughes?

Honestly, If a former first rounder who doesn’t have character or criminal issue is available for a mid to low round pick, why not do it?  Dude is talented so it’s a great risk.  While they are adding receivers, why not kick the tires on Brandon Coleman, formerly of the Saints? 6’6” and just caught up in a numbers game in NO.

Coleman was cut due to injury.

So we have Zay who catches about half his targets, and is injured about half the time, and now Coleman (see above)... Maybe Beane found out how to merge multiple players into one... That'd be great!

Throwing ? against the wall and hoping it sticks!  On paper, it’s physically talented ? though.  Good risk.

This receiving group has been awful since this time last year. This move is a big step towards improving it. I LOVE investing in talent. This is a guy that could blossom in this situation.

You've been calling for this all offseason.

I wasn't sure they'd want to mess with him.......comes from family background that is rough even by NFL standards and has been accused of orchestrating a beatdown of someone who lives in his apartment complex in Ohio by some of his circle of friends.

He also had some trouble with the Cleveland po po last year... mcbeane really going out of their comfort zone, keep him away from zay

What was it?  Given the PED FA signings this year, I think the new regime is realizing that you need to taken some “character” risks assuming it’s not too bad.

Just perusing Corey Coleman NFL stats... big red flag is catches per targets.

He's made 56 receptions on 131 targets. That's 43%.

Only two guys of top 80 last year in NFL receiving yards were below 50%.

One was Dez Bryant.

Maybe it's the injuries.

Not a lot of people on the last two Browns rosters had very good percentages. 2nd year receiver whos struggled with injuries and like 5 qbs in 3 years.

Now we have a receiver to catch the other half. Put them together and you got 100%. Math!

I have to think it’s conditional, so what’s the harm?

Yup- all upside really. I’d trade conditional day 3 picks for first round guys in bad situations all day. Typically even the big first round busts are above average for day 3 picks and without the bonus or picking up the option the contracts aren’t bad if they flop either.

Yeah, I don’t know if it will work out but it feels like a good buy low move. If he fails our WR group is still bad. If he stays healthy he can boost the group. If he turned in a year like Goodwin had in SF last year it would be a massive boost.

Coleman has barrels of potential.  Since drafted has played with 6 QBs and battled injuries for 2 years.  Perfect buy low scenario.  Give him a few weeks of learning the playbook before getting him on the field.  He has the ability to be Brandin Cooks for us.  Benjamin, Coleman, Kerley, Jones is not a bad Wr Corp.

To me its interesting because i think hes a slot guy and the coaches have been talking up Kerley and hes a slot guy too. Maybe one can play outside?

KB  Coleman Clay Kerley

Not horrible i guess.

Perfect.

Former 1st rounder with 4.37 speed and cost a late round pick. No downside at all to this move. And still cost controlled this year and next year (before needing 5th year option)

could be a functional top 4 and we have some decent 5-7 type guys for depth/upside. He’s a risk but he at least gives a better shot at fielding a competent group

I agree. Adding talent and hoping that the coaching staff can get the best out of him is worth the risk imo.

I thought he is more of an outside guy with his speed.  But if he is, why do we value slot guys so much? They are so easy to find.
