3-21: AJ McCarron on WGR

3-21: AJ McCarron on WGR (12:34)

@WGR550
McCarron - It was really just a sit and wait game for free agency. It's just another crazy process I went through, but felt the #Bills was the best opportunity for me to start and compete.

McCarron - I've always been taught to compete against myself day-in and day-out. If you view yourself as the best out there, there's no reason to compete against the next guy. #Bills

McCarron - I know Kelvin Benjamin because we have the same agent, so I've been talking to him about Buffalo, and getting a feel for each other. It will be an awesome process of getting together and getting to know each other better. #Bills

McCarron - Brian Daboll is a great offensive mind, does a great job of fitting his offensive scheme to his players. Can't wait to get to work with him. #Bills

McCarron - it really feels like a University of Alabama atmosphere here in Buffalo. It's something special, awesome to be a part of. It gets you excited for football. #Bills

McCarron - I can't wait to get here and prove to the city and organization how hard I work and that I won't let them down. #Bills

Coach Saban said this YESTERDAY in a press conference after spring practice. His thing is that teammates do not compete against each other; they compete against themselves to find out what their goals are, how good they can be and how much they can help the team.

The best thing about McDermott imo is how he channels Coach Saban.

I am expecting great things.

For those reasons I feel like he's got to have something to offer. College is college, but you can't compete at the highest level if you're a bum.

he's the 1st qb we've had since brady stepped on the field that will give us the chance to go neck and neck with the pats throughout the season and give them a run for the division.

What has A.J. done in his limited career that makes you think that?

Call me crazy, but convince why he isn't just as good as Garrappolo?? Accurate passer, intelligent, potential, and knows how to win football games.

Garrap has a cannon, which he displayed rarely in his dunk and dunk offense.  He was TRULY developed by the Pats.  When a guy causes an internal rift between a head coach and owner, Over whether he should be starting over Tom Brady, you know you have something special. The league has seen just a small sample of what Jimmy can do. Draft him in fantasy. He is about to explode!  McCarron...  the jury is still out.

If you can't see it with your own two eyes no one is going to be able to convince you.

Garoppolo is much more talented than McCarron and he actually lifts the game of teammates as he showed with the 49ers last season.  Jimmy G's delivery is lightning quick and very much technically sound.  He makes it happen within the rhythm of an offense and also makes things happen when plays break down.  McCarron is not even close to the same caliber of QB.

You're probably right, but I think thats easy to say bc Garoppolo has a larger and more dated sample size.

Ever heard of tempering your expectations?

Much more than any QB in 2018 draft for college play.

And more than any 2018 draftee in NFL regular season play. Considering all draftees have ZERO NFL exp.

More than any draftee in NFL playoff play.

He has the arm talent and ball speed of a 1st round pick.

has a INT % that would make Tyrod Taylor smile.

has TD to INT ratio that would make Tyrod happy and J Grapps smile.

The best case scenario:

1.  Bills draft a QB who has the potential to be the franchise QB.

2.  He sits out 2018 and develops

3.  AJ plays and plays lights out.

4.  Bills trade AJ for high draft pick to QB needy team in 2019

They would still need a reliable backup.  I would keep him around.

ok, how does he have that potential? Been on the bench for years....obviously I want him to succeed but he hasn't shown much potential. Has hardly played

I have seen him interviewed where he said he will not be a career backup, that if he isn't good enough to play at a high level and start in the NFL, he will move on and find something else to do.  I guess he/ we are about to find out.

We'll see. It's a pretty lucrative living as a backup QB in the NFL.

Look at Jalen and Tua. Two greats kids who support each other.
