BUFFALOTONE
Guys not a leader... Neither is Suh. Neither is Kiko. Neither is Maxwell. And they're going to cut wake and vernon? Yikes. They signed Mario cause Wake is done. Coming of an Achilles and is 34, he has a huge cap number too. Mario is the replacement.

purple haze
As I said in the other thread... at $8mil / year, what do you think the Bills were offering before they cut him? He had indicated he'd consider a discount to stay. Taking 8 million from Miami is different than taking 8 million from the Bills. He never had a contract with Miami. And ultimately, he didn't leave Buff because of money. I think when he kept opening his mouth about the D, coupled with his play, it was a done deal for him. Not to mention the strength of the draft is the D-line.

purple haze
Agreed. But would it shock you to see Mario with 8 to 10 sacks next year? The tape don't lie is right and the tape shows everyone on our defensive line's production being down. Wouldn't be surprised at all. And for 8 mil that would be a good investment for Miami. Peter
They got Maxwell, Kiko and Mario...they are going to lose Vernon, Miller, Grimes and Stills. That's a pretty bad start to 16' and they also lost draft position in the 1st round and possible a mid round pick? I'd be smashing plastic tables if I was a Dolphins fan today. This. Ed_Formerly_of_Roch
Just like I said the Bills/ Rex invited Antonio Chrom. in as courtesy and it's good PR to keep up a good relationship with him. Mario W stated he's be willing to take a pay cut to stay was nothing more than Mario trying to be the "good guy". Fan's shouldn't rip for leaving as he was willing to take a pay cut, it's all on the Bill's. In reality he knew there was no way the Bills would ever agree to it so he's just trying to make himself out to be the hero. boater
What puzzles me: Miami was in bad cap position before signing MW, now their cap locker hurt must even be more. They have Zero room to do anything but draft.

Punching Bag
http://www.si.com/nfl/2016/03/08/nfl-free-agency-grades-rumors-contracts Dolphins sign DE Mario WilliamsDetails: Two-year, $16 million deal. After posting double-digit sacks his first two seasons in Buffalo, Williams had five last year and openly complained about Rex Ryan’s defensive scheme. He is 31, so you wonder if he’s just on a downward career trajectory, but going short on years and money somewhat protects the Dolphins. Williams should be better as an end in Miami, and he should be a better fit than Olivier Vernon, who was tagged as the transition player and could be signed/traded by someone else. Grade: B+

FLFan
Gonna be a dangerous line, especially if Mario is back to being motivated. That is what people said about the Dolphins line before last season. The reality was different. I am not sure Mario makes them better, but I believe he will certainly be more motivated, at least at the start. At best lateral move, but they save a few million in cap. Vernon will get a huge deal. I must have missed where Vernon was an all pro two years ago. Again, we are re-writing history. When motivated (which he was for his Bills career pre Rex), he was one of the best DEs in the NFL. He could be entering the downside of his career but people need to stop pretending like Mario was a scrub. Right now, Miami got better and we got worse. And $8 million in Florida is a lot different than $8 million in Buffalo.

But he still was one of the dominant Bills players for a three year stretch. I have no hard feelings and wish him the best minus Bills games. Tannehill probably loves this move. Personally I don't want a guy on my team that quits on his teammates. Mario was our leading sacker this year as sad as was. Everyone's sack numbers went down across the board. We forced a system on a great d line and it was an awful season. Pre Rex, the idea that Vernon (with 29 sacks in 4 years) was better than Mario would have been laughable. But after one year in a defense where nearly everyone got worse, people don't think losing him is a big loss. It is, and if motivated, a rival got better. That sucks. I hope we show highlights of Mario's Greatest Slapfights on the Jumbotron at the Fish game this year. Or we could show we he nearly killed Tannehill to win a game or 4 sacks against Newton. I just know we had a beast at DE, arguably the 2nd best in the NFL at one of the hardest positions to find talent. It sucks losing that for nothing. And I assume that there would be no drop off from Schwartz to Rex. If anything, I assumed we would be better. I have never been more wrong in my life and it definitely has affected my outlook for this season. Acknowledging Mario's greatness in the past and pointing out the embarrassment that was his performance last year are not mutually exclusive things. That's fair. But it's like folks are trying to destroy the guy when he was a great Bills PR (pre Rex).

Me personally, I wanted to root for him so bad and even appreciated his quiet personality. But once he started calling out the scheme this year, that gave me pause. Then to hear the "Rex has to meet me halfway" talk, I was like ehhhh... Then to see the compiled video evidence put together recently sold me. Dude just quit on his team this season. Again, I agree with this too. But: 1 - he's not the only Bill 2 - he was right because the defense wasn't close to as good 3 - Rex should have benched him then 4 - we created another hole to fill But it's done. I hate that he went to a rival. I really want Rex to have a great D this year and shove it in the doubters' face. But I can't say I'm thrilled with the start of the Rex era.
