Vikings cut Kendricks

I really do think the Bills are going to fill a lot of these cap holes with vets cut like this?  Guys you can get cheaper than sub 30's, sign them for 1-3 years while you draft replacements or create other cap space.  I would be fine getting him for around 7-10 mil while Edmunds gets 15+ from someone else

He's been a top 10 LB for awhile.  At age 31, I'd sign him to a 2 year deal at 7M per year. The Bills have options with guys like Vander Esch, Al-Shaair and Kendricks.

I prefer a Germaine Pratt long-term guy. However, Kendricks as a bridge to a guy like Trenton Simpson would work for me as well. 

 

However, Kendricks will wind up in NYG, Raiders, or Dallas.

Good news for the Bills even if they don't want him: more supply in free agency lowers the cost of other players.

The other good thing about all these cuts is, it depresses Edmunds worth too as more well seasoned good competition he's up against.

I am fine with the Buffalo Bills signing Eric Kendricks but for no more than 2 years because he is 31 years old in my opinion. Go Bills! Let’s Go Buffalo

Kendricks was not good this season, and the Vikings defense was horrible. He is past his prime. I'd pass.

PFF had him like 3 years 24 million. Something along those lines. I think that can easily be done under the cap. The Bills can't do a 20-mill-a-year guy and I think that is what Beane means when he says no Von Miller-level addition.

I agree on your analysis of what Beane said. The Bills don't have to sign a $20 million a year player in order to improve the team, but that doesn't mean that they will be inactive during free agency either.

 

If we could get Pratt for that type of money, then go for it.

I feel pretty strongly that LB is a position they are going to add a young vet. I love Campbell and Simpson, but I don't think they wait until the draft to add a QB for their defense. Pratt is by far my favorite option in UFA, followed by guys like Drue Tranquill, Cole Holcomb, Bobby Okereke...all of those guys can replace Tremaine at various price ranges, but won't approach what Tremaine will make because of his prospect shine and perceived upside. 

 

If they go and sign a guy like Anthony Walker Jr. or Zach Cunnigham to a 1-year deal, then they are very likely to draft a LB early imo. 

 

To me, LB and OL are the two places they will add mid-level guys via UFA.

Which is why when I hear people talking about paying Edmunds $20M/yr., I politely seek to dig a hole and bury myself inside of it.

That's 2006-2012 Bills in the Ralph era. 

 

Letting a starter go, then replace that starter immediately in the draft. 

 

I couldn't believe that Beane/McDermott would replace Poyer/Edmunds immediately with a R1 pick.

It's not even your opinion. He is, in fact, 31 years old.

I like the idea of adding Hendricks or a similar FA instead of trying to resign Edmunds and overpaying. I think we can get similar production for way less money. 

People seem to be wising up to Edmunds' up-and-down play over his tenure and his history of giving up big plays. Even Gregg Rosenthal at NFL.com is talking about Edmunds being overvalued in FA: 

"Edmunds made a big jump in his coverage ability in 2022. Considering all the big plays he gave up in his first four seasons, though, it's fair to expect some regression. He also was in an ideal system surrounded by great players in Buffalo, and recreating that in a new setting will be difficult. It feels like paying him now would be like buying his stock at an all-time high."
