Hypothetical: Do the Bills win if we give Singletary 25 carries?

Recommended Posts

we ran 25 times, that is More than enough.  that is a 50/50 ratio.

I want the ratio closer to 60 / 40 Pass to run when the season is over.

EDIT- Ignore my poor Monday Math, I will leave it here though to remind myself I am an idiot.

I mean 25 feature back runs. Not Josh falling forward into linebackers 9 times.

You can take Josh's 9 runs and hand them to Singletary that is fine.  I hate the designed Runs, except the QB sneaks.  Thats fine.  But I also do not want to RUN more

In what world is 51 pass attempts and 25 run attempts a 50/50 split?

Wouldn't a 50/50 splits be 25 runs and 25 passes? or am I missing something.

We had SIXTEEN total run plays that didn't include Allen and one of those was McKenzie.

And I think 5 of the 16 were on the last drive.

It was not in the game plan at all.  We thought we could hold up their front 4 in pass pro and made a terrible mistake.

Most of his yards were in garbage time.  I expect if we went in run heavy, Pitt would have adjusted and stopped us there.  We're not a good running team, probably the best we can do there is the occasional run to keep Ds honest.  We have to get faster at executing regardless of run or pass though, every play yesterday just looked lethargic.  The scheme worked against us.  The only good plays were a result of amazing individual effort versus good design.

There was 9 mins left in the game down by 10 when he ran for 15 and then 25. Is that garbage time?

He averaged 6.5 yards on 11 carries. How much does another 14 carries change the game?

Personally, Josh throwing 51 times isn’t sustainable, and we did him zero favors by not establishing the run.

Singletary is not starting RB material in this league,  i don't care that he worked out and got bigger.  He is not fast enough and not fluid enough to make catches,  he also had two fumbles yesterday. The guy relied on making people miss in college and is only on this team because Beane does not want to admit he made mistake drafting him in the 3rd round.  The offence will not get to an elite level until that position is upgraded just like most were calling for after the loss to KC.  The guy had a grand total of 8 yards on 3 catches.  Why were the Bills looking to upgrade last season before the trade deadline?  position of weakness last year and i see very little improvement.

No because our O-line has not established they can run bock, and Daboll thinks they can get away with last year's empty set, 4and 5 receiver, quick strike offense.

And they will.....not against fronts like Pitt, Wash, or Tampa unless Josh plays near perfect.

No.

The OL isn't good enough.  The Steelers were playing 100% looking for pass. If the bills even gave the ball to Singletary 10 more times, the Steelers D-unit would have played even more balanced, and Singletary would have gotten under 4 yards per carry.

Just because you pay a guy 43M doesn't mean you're obligated to pass 66% of the time. DC's will have an easier time game planning Josh this year based on Daboll's tendencies. I'd like us to run more. Keep defenses honest and not dropping 7 in zone coverage. Obviously our OL might struggle blocking 4 let alone more. If a hitter knows a fastball is coming it increases your avg tremendously. Activate Moss and at least run it 45% of the time. Daboll has to be much more creative in keeping pressure of JA. He didn't do it in KC and he didn't do it yesterday. Big mistake to wish for the Dallas offense.

By your handle, i know you've been around a while.  WHen you've watched enough games, you know when one team has already ceded the field.  It was garbage time because Pitt didnt care if we ran the ball.  The whole second half, the Bills were stuck in molasses, from getting the play in, to getting to the line, to getting the play off.  The longer that game lasted, the more Pitt would have won by

Opposing D Coordinators can assume henceforth that in critical situations, Daboll go to page 973 of the playbook and find the dumbest play possible.  It will make their jobs easier.

its one only game... and really each team (O, D, ST) and respective coaching has to share blame...sucks when D knows what play you are running at a critical stage (pitch to Breida for loss of what 7 !)...you dont deserve to win when you allow a blocked punt to score...and the D did not rise up and stop Pitts come crunch time to bail out the O...

Next...tough road game in heat at Miami - likey do better against man schemes that fish use extensively on D...so lets see some better coaching and effort

It very well COULD have changed the complexion of the game. The Squealers defended us by rushing four (and often times 3) and playing a zone defense that "crowded" the passing lanes. Running more with Singletary and Moss (if he were available) would have undoubtedly pulled defenders from coverage to defend the line of scrimmage.

The problem with that strategy is that the blocking of our OL was so abysmal that maybe our 6.5 per rush (from a real running back) may have become ineffective in a hurry had Pit "loaded the box" with more defenders.

Probably not. He had a moment or two yesterday. But his 25 yard pick up is overvaluing his production to fans. He had a good day yesterday, but nor carry the team great. The offensive unit/staff as a whole lost the game. There is not a single quick fix for that other than just being holistically better.

You can’t say this on WGR, for them running empty all game, every game is the only way to win because it’s 2021.

I think the Bills hem themselves into this template where every game needs to be 50 throws, no run game, Josh is our leading rusher.

Josh is sloppy with the ball when he runs. The underneath outs to Diggs and slants to Beasley were open, but Dabol gets impatient.

I think we win yesterday if attempt the 53-yard FG from Bass, and not throw backwards on 4th-1 from a tight goal line formation.

But Singletary was not the issue yesterday. He gets no work. This was like fans who used to get on Spiller when he got 3 or 4 carries a game and fans were upset he didn’t average 5.0 ypc. Singletary is not the Bills problem.

We have turned into a empty set, throw every play team regardless of how the game is actually playing out on the field.

Yesterday our tackles were being abused, so it’s on Josh to be the man at all times.
