Week 5: Bills at Titans on Tuesday Night Football

I thought the season shouldn't happen. I went against my own principles by watching and enjoying the ride. I disgust myself but have accepted this.

Ā

If one person (that could be someone not even in contact with a Tenn player) dies...man, what are we doing? I think we are all Pieces of you know what.Ā That's how I feel. Sorry, not sorry.Ā

The NFL has to be absolutely livid. They are ruining their image as far as how they are handing the virus, because they put protocols in place to have a season and they were ignored. Itā€™s a horrible look from the titans.

I donā€™t want to sound like a contrarian, but Iā€™d go just the other way with it. IF all the other teams are able to isolate players who test positive and keep things progressing, then this shows what happens when you donā€™t follow protocols. The Titans are helping to show why protocols matter.

Ā

Especially considering how well the protocols are working elsewhere.Ā

Ā

Ā They're going to look worse if they order the Bills to play the Titans and Bills players get sick - especially the day of, or the day after they play KC.

Ā

The "2 clear days are enough" has to be based on the premise that exposure stopped last Tuesday, when the Titans facilities closed.Ā  If exposure continued throughout the week as players met to practice outside the facility, that premise isn't worth the powder to blow it to hell.Ā

It already happened though. It's pretty much a 100% chance Gilmore had the virus when he played this past week. He just hadn't tested positive yet because that's how the virus works. The NFL doesn't care about sick players playing as long as they don't have evidence that they knew they were sick.

Ā

Edit: Playing the game with a player that has it has happened. I assume you mean that it hasn't spread to others from that game yet, which we won't know for another week or so.

Exactly. So far, knock on wood, we havenā€™t seen a player from one team pass it to a player from another team from game exposure.Ā

People talking about a forfeit is ridiculous. Ā Talk about incentivizing a team to sweep positive results under the carpet!

Ā

They can't sweep "positive results under the carpet".Ā  The league gets the reports from the lab.

Ā

But...it is incentivizing the team to try to conceal whatever practices they've held off-site, and that isn't constructive right now.

Couldnā€™t agree more with this. Vrabel doesnā€™t strike me as a guy who runs a tight ship.Ā

Dianna Russini on ESPN said titans and bills players are told they might play the game monday or tuesday (IF THE POSITIVE TESTS DISSAPEAR IN THE NEXT TWO DAYS), in which case the Bills/Chiefs game gets moved to Saturday night (NFL wants it on a non football day to generate revenue for themselves and FOX)

I don't want a forfeit win either, but it's important to point out that Tennessee would not be forced to forfeit because they had positive results.Ā  Any punishment the team receives is because they flagrantly violated protocols and they put the entire season in jeopardy.

we can definitely say the NFL has handled this situation worse than any other pro sports leagueĀ

the wealthiest league in the world looks like it has no idea how to handle this...embarrassingĀ

Ā

This is wrong.

Ā

The League is handling it very well- one team f-ingĀ everything up is not the fault of the league.Ā

Yes, I meant it has not spread to anyone on either team yet. Cam and Gilmore hadĀ dinner Together Fri night btw

Options I see:

Ā

1. Play on Monday or Tuesday, pushing Bills-Chiefs to Saturday night or Sunday

Ā

2. Create a Week 18 and play then

Ā

3. Suspend with indefinite "TBD" designation and see what other games get this same designation throughout year

Ā

4. Cancel outright, no forfeit

Ā

5. Forfeit (very unlikely)

Ā

Options 1, 2, and 4 are unfair to the Bills.

Ā

Option 5 is unfair to other teams.

Ā

Therefore, I predict it will be option 3, minimizing immediate impact and waiting until we see what other games are similarly affected throughout the year. Of course, it could be argued that this is unfair to the Bills because they might have to play the Titans at full strength later rather than in a very weakened state now.

Ā

As for paychecks if the game is canceled, I bet the BillsĀ find a way to pay the players. Not their fault.

Ha. I started to write out that we should expect nothing less from a disciple of Belichick. Only difference,Ā Ā Vrabel isnā€™t in the same stratosphere as Belichick when it comes to intelligence.Ā

7pm start on Monday night football would be all right.Ā  Certainly gives us a few more days to practice for the Chiefs too.Ā  Of course it also gives the Chiefs those same days.Ā Ā

So if the game is pushed to Monday/Tuesday, do they still test on Sunday?Ā  Is it just the day that the team plays that they don't get tested or is it just sunday'sĀ that there is no testing done?

Ā

Because I'd be willing to bet money that they have more positive tests over the next few days, including sunday.

That's really a horrible look.Ā

Ā

"Oh, Noes, we were confused, I had to rescue a kitten from my pit bull puppy and I must have missed the Zoom where Vrabel passed that message" is plausible deniability and semi-sympathetic.Ā  The NFL's memos do not exemplify concise clarity, and of course competitive players want to stay sharp and stay in shape.Ā  Other team's players understand that.Ā  They "get it" if it were them and their teammates, that's what they'd want to do.

Ā

But "Nana Nana Booboo, we Broke the Rules and You Can't Catch Us!" - Jesus, if you're a player on another team, that has to be infuriating.

Ā

That's my understanding.Ā  Testing everyday, including bye weeks, just not day of game for teams.
