Bucky Brooks--Brady era is over/Josh Allen on the rise

Bucky Brooks with a nice writeup....

Says Tom Brady while the GOAT hasn't been elite since mid 2018 and nobody is scared of him anymore. Says his days as an elite player are over and he has become a game manager relying on great D and special teams to provide him with a lot of short fields.

Also said more people need to start paying attention to what Josh Allen has done, and said he is starting to come into his own as a playmaker and QB...

I agree with him.  Brady is still good but he is nowhere near where he was even two years ago.  Like us he has had a petty soft schedule thus far.  Their defense is just lights out.  I'm sure that Belichick new this was coming which is why that defense, which has always been good but overlooked, is very good this year.

I want to buy into this as any Bills fan would, but the reality is, each time Josh Allen hype has peaked has been after a game against the Dolphins. If he is REALLY coming into his own we will know it tomorrow and he certainly won’t be outplayed by the other Allen.  We know Allen is a gamer, we know he is going to give a game like this everything he’s got, so now let’s see exactly what he’s got at this point in his career because a game like Denver vs. Buffalo will VERY likely have to  come down to one late drive to win the game on offense. And he’s been a pretty good 4th quarter passer but this Broncos defense isn’t quite like the defenses he had been getting it down against

He hasn't just been "pretty good" in the 4th quarter, he has the best 4th quarter passer rating in the NFL.

Premature there Bucky.  I am so hyped up on Josh's potential, but so far that's where we're at, potential....

I think we've seen all of what he can do. He just needs to get more consistent at it every game.

Not every game will be against Miami and not every game will be against new England but he shows flashes in every game.

That light bulb just needs to stay on instead of flickering.

Nice stuff about Allen. We w uh ol see tomorrow if Allen really is becoming what Brooks seems to see.  At this point in his career, Allen should be putting up good numbers and wins against mediocre teams.  Still may struggle against the elite, but Denver isnt elite.

Which part specifically of what he said is premature? It seemed like an accurate overview that looked at his overall performance as well as his current streak. The only projection I saw was saying he’s turning into a franchise QB, which seems accurate to me...?

Bucky has been hard on Allen previously, so I’m glad to see give an honest take on him.

He is the best game manager to have. Belly made a mistake in getting rid of their giant RT and are having trouble running the ball.

Denver's defense is #4 in the NFL on points.  If that isn't elite, you can sure see it from there.

I’m not even reading it, I’ll watch them play tomorrow. Denver has a REAL defense, so a good test. It’s just one game, but I look forward to seeing how it goes every week.

I went along with Josh since he was our pick. What choice did I have but to be cautiously hopeful. I went from there to cautiously optimistic. I have to admit I’m pleasantly surprised by his direction given the lack of an outstanding cast surrounding him. PLEASE be the real deal! Hard not to love the guy!

Yeah, I know they're good, but they dont dominate.  If Allen is any good he should put up 21, and that should win.

We all wondered what we would have in Josh Allen on draft night two years ago.  I think if we could have looked into the future on that draft night to right now, week 12 of Allen's second season, and see how Allen is playing, and the Bills sitting at 7-3, we all would've taken that in a heart beat.

He is only going to get better.

Ha!  Well, certainly on draft night, I was a "wrong Josh" er - like "WTF McBeane, I hope you know what the heck you're doing"

If I could have had a crystal ball to this point in the season this year, I would certainly have been much happier!  But in frankness, and it might be the path that McDermott and Daboll are taking with him - he's still a long step from where we need him to be as the Franchise Guy.

Thanks for the story. I would refrain from posting google amp links, and post the direct link instead. This way your post has more credibility.

I agree he still has a ways to go.  I think he will get there for a few reasons.  First, there is some franchise stability.  He has a good coaching staff that will be patient with him and give him the time he needs to grow. This isn't the dumpster fire Bills of a few years ago.  Second, the guy has a crazy work ethic.  At the end of last season he couldn't throw short and intermediate passes to save his life, so he spent all off season working on it and now it's the strongest part of his game.  I would expect him to pick another weakness this off season and attack it and improve upon it.  Lastly, the front office is making every effort to put players around him to make him successful and that should continue going forward.  This year they gave him an O-Line and some receivers who can get separation and catch the damn ball.  I expect he will take the field next year with even more weapons.

I think this franchise has finally found its QB.

What is meant by "they don't dominate" in this context?

They have held 5 of their opponents to <20 points

Me thinks some people are going to be surprised tomorrow. Denver plays very physical. The Bills haven’t played well against that, I hope tomorrow is different.

This is where Brady comes out and goes for 600 and 5 yeah?

I’ve watched every pats* game this year...it isn’t happening. He* is riding the coattails of that D. He* has zero ability to drive the ball down the field.  Brady* is done.

Look back to this time last year and everyone was saying the same thing. Then look what happened.

We said that about manning in his second to last year,  too.  Watch him this year- he's not making those big throws when they're behind the sticks.  They're still hard to stop from dinking and dunking their way down the field, as always, but when the clutch throws need to be made, he's just misfiring left and right.

It was interesting to see them pull out the Edelman pass trick play against the Eagles. Seemed like a desperation play to have to pull it out against a non-conference opponent.

Agreed. Manning absolutely fell apart down the stretch. His mental acuity allowed him to continue to manage ththe game but you could tell he was toast. Brady looks about the same now. I'm just hoping he regrets not retiring after last season when they get knocked out in the divisional round this year.

The team doesnt dominate, and the defense isnt good enough to carry them.  I'm not arguing with about the quality of their D, but ifthe Bills can just do against their D what their averages are, that would be a nice game for Josh and another win.  They have an 89 passer rating, and an 89 for Josh at this point in his career is an okay outing.

I know. The Pats remain innovative no matter what. They always find a new way to keep the machine running.

This is a really good article that talks about how Brady has been declining for the past 3 years and talks about how bad he actually has been this year.

Quote

Brady’s completion rate also falls from 75 percent in a clean pocket to 35 percent (the worst among qualified quarterbacks, per Pro Football Focus) when facing pass pressure, and his passer rating drops from 105.8 to 48.5 in those same situations, one of the worst ratings among qualified quarterbacks. (For comparison, a quarterback will earn a 39.6 passer rating for an incomplete pass.) Brady produced passer ratings under pressure of 71.1 in 2018 and 95.8 in 2017.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/11/19/patriots-tom-brady-is-no-longer-an-elite-quarterback/

It's a little long but IMO is totally worth the read.
