The tricky part in live time is josh going down and to the inside. Lowering a shoulder into his chest on his original path puts a helmet into his helmet once he starts going low and inside of him.

again, not arguing it’s clean, or a good hit but I think a tougher spot than some acknowledged in a split second with a lot of moving pieces and a goal of ending forward progress

In general I agree with you that a lot of these hits the guys start to make the tackle and then the ball carrier lowers his head which makes it worse than it could have been. Like you, I would like to see it again. But when I watched the replay originally, not the live hit, it looked to me like he saw a Josh stopped and lowered his head to go right for Josh's.

The sad thing is it completely impacted the outcome of the game. With all the intercepts, penalties, bad calls, McD bad challenge etc. we had the ball on the NE 40 yard line. We were dominating the second half, should have been 15 yards added so we have the ball inside the 30. Also, Barkley had other chances with good field position, I gotta feel Josh would have pushed one over the line in the fourth quarter!

I'm not saying his intent was to injure. I'm saying that Josh was held up and he chose to lower his head to hit Josh in the helmet. He could have gone lower, he could have hit with shoulder. To me he was head hunting.

There is absolutely no question about that, although I believe his intent was to injure.  Did you see his immediate reaction?  POS player and team.

I have to agree. Was feeling it with JA in there, especially if they got around the goal line. With Barkley, it was hoping against hope.

For as terrible as it looked, he showed no physical symptoms running to the locker room..

He did look spry! Does anyone know if he ran to the correct locker room? That would be a good sign.

Not sure why anyone wants to make excuses for this.  Sorry, but he led with his helmet and it was very intentional.

......and to me he should be fined and suspended. You’d get a lifetime ban for doing that to Brady. That was clearly done with intent, IMO.

If that hit isn't the definition of targeting then the NFL isn't serious about player safety. Which we all cynically believe the case to be.

Pretty sure it would be an ejection and a game check fine if that was TB. Maybe even a suspension.

I think he intentionally tried to go helmet to helmet. But... that said... his reaction to Josh being down could have easily been the same whether he did or didn't try to hurt him. I don't think that shows anything. I do think he tried to take off Josh's head.

Might have a point if he hadn’t stood over him and flexed...he was trying to injure him there

If the dude has any reputation for it, I’ll concede it fast

but he also just stopped a 6’5 and 240 lbs horse dead in his tracks. I think quite a few guys have that reaction after a massive hit that they “win” in a major moment.

I dont think there was much thought beyond “stop that dude” and “hell yea I stopped that dude”

Yeah, his reaction has nothing to do with head hunting or not imo.

Running off means nothing other than right at that moment he was alert. He did lose consciousness and therefore did have a concussion and other  additional things will define the severity of it. Many times patients are initially ok only to later suffer post  concussion syndrome with symptoms like headaches , nausea , impaired cognitive function, mood lability etc.

I would be surprised if he clears the post concussion protocols in as little as a week after a concussion / tbi with loss of consciousness that was about 1-2 min roughly. It is a staged process to return with increasing physical challenges that have to be performed with no return of any symptoms associated with the increased physical exercise demands, with additional cognitive testing as well. If any symptoms are precipitated by increased levels of exertion, things are put  on hold to minimize risk of worsening outcomes with second traumatic head injuries.   Since we are dealing with a literal bruise to the brain, it is easy to see how unpredictable it becomes regarding prognosis, just like you have seen as your own bruises ( a rough analogy ) heal at variable rates.   I bet with a bye after Tennessee, they will be very conservative just like they have been with Singletary and I would guess Josh returns after the bye.   It’s not impossible for him to make it in a week since he is healthy with no past concussion episodes / history  I am aware of , but I think the odds are not in his favor to make it back for the Titans. Will know a lot more about  his symptoms or lack of them in the next 24-48 hours. Will see tho, I’ve learned never to say never in medicine a long long time ago!

Perhaps.  Cheap shot in any case, and the point is moot, since he was not ejected and will likely only face a minimum fine, if any.  If that same play had happened to Brady there is no question the player would have been ejected.  The NFL is a joke and it seriously ticks me off that players continue to get away with play that could seriously injure and possibly end a career.  With no consequences, why not take the opposing QB out?

It was the definition of leading with his helmet. I’d not have been disappointed if that DB was carted off on a stretcher because he couldn’t move after that hit. Absolutely awful and he deserved to injure himself,

Did you miss KVN hit Barkley illegally after the Brown lateral?

Remember last year Gronkdipshit trying to knock White’s head off after the whistle? Brady trying to take out Ed Reed’s knee on a slide? I don’t know why it’s even a question that the Patriots will deliberately try to injure important players in close games. They don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt imo

Josh was already going down = cheap shot period!

Already going down is fine, the helmet to helmet hit is absolutely forbidden and NOT fine, at all. I’ll be disappointed when his fine is too small, and he avoids a suspension. I hate to even think this way, but what would happen if there were a blatant cheap shot that caused Brady to miss games?

And if anyone is confused about the intent, see the KVN personal foul on Barkley.

NE clearly made multiple attempts to injure both QBs. That's who they are and how they play, and the NFL let them get away with it scot-free today, as usual.

If he was knocked out cold he would have fumbled that ball. You lose control of all physical functions including holding onto a football.

That's not a definite indicator of being knocked out, though.  Kirk Cousins, for example, loses control of all physical functions when he's complete conscious.

Actually, he wasn't, which was the problem.  He was being held upright, which allowed the NE player to tee off on him.

Constantly. And then gets signed to huge contracts. It's kind of a remarkable trait. You have to hand it to him for that.

We know what the league's response would be if this happened to Brady
