Just Joshin'
IMO there is a side benefit: Beane sends a message to the team that he will do anything to win, even bringing in a clown. He will get mileage for trying and the team will be better off in the long run by not acquiring Brown.

We agreed with Steelers on trade compensation with a basic understanding of what it might take to extend Brown. AB's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, leaked the trade to the media to put pressure on the Bills to up their offer and get a deal done now as this is when their leverage is the highest. When we wouldn't meet their demands, Brown took to twiiter saying he'd never report. Bills balked at the whole situation and backed away. It has nothing to do with how he feels or doesn't feel about Buffalo. Why do people insist on acting like spurned teenagers?? Disagree. The "not wanting to go to Buffalo" part of this has nothing to do with the weather or not enough Michelin 4 star restaurants in Buffalo and that sort of thing. It's the team, the QB, the lack of a passing game, the perennial losing...it was that "Buffalo" that he didn't want to go to.

I have no doubt AB would prefer a big market with an established QB and winning culture, but that’s all secondary to $$. Think of it this way. NFL has a hard cap. There are only a few teams with 1. Need for big time WR, 2. Lots of cap space, and 3. willingness to spend that cap space on re-doing AB’s contract AND spend the draft capital to get the trade done. Why would a good agent like Drew Rosenhaus want to eliminate one of the few teams who fit all those categories? Even if AB really didn’t want to come to Buffalo, the best way to do that is to quietly and respectfully tell Bills, so that you can still use the threat of them as leverage with another team for a better deal. You only go the public scorched earth route if Bills are trying to trade for you without meeting your contract demands, which is what happened. If AB gets traded somewhere good and there’s little new money involved then I’ll admit I’m wrong. Edited March 8, 2019 by VW82

It's a shame cause we loved it there. I don't think property taxes are the issue to the players... However state taxes are a HUGE issue. They are already taxed at 37% federally. You can go to PA and only add 3.07% onto that or you can go to Cali and add 13.3% on top (NY is 8.82%). Teams in those states have to pay the player significantly more to compensate for losses to taxes to equal teams from lower taxed states (or none, like FL and TX). I bet alot of these dummy athletes don’t take this into consideration unless their agent tells them. And in alot of cases it would probably be in the agents best interest not to tell them. BuffaloBillsGospel
I just saw an interview on NFL.com with adidi khibwala, she stated that the talks never even got to money with Antonio Brown, the Bills were clearly interested but the compensation was too high, so I'm assuming they wanted Buffalo's 1st round pick outright for Brown (just a guess). She stated that talks never got to Antonio brown or his agent on whether or not he'd want to come to Buffalo so this was nixed by Beane thinking the price was too high. She also said Brown doesn't have that much leverage and that the Steelers aren't asking brown who he wants to be traded too in case people are still thinking Antonio brown said screw Buffalo that appears not to be the case. Isn't that the reporter who primarily covers the Steelers? Sounds like Pittsburgh is doing major damage control because AB drove his value down with how he acted with the Buffalo possibility. They would want other teams to believe it never got that far so it looks like the Bills just didnt want to give up 9. I would think most teams would not be willing to give up 9, so that would be a reasonable thing for Buffalo to do in their eyes.

The fact is LA, SD, and SF represent a minuscule part of California. I used $100,000 because that was an easy number. I'll show you a $500,000 house where I live and a $500,000 house in Buffalo will pail in comparison and will run significantly more in taxes. When your money is going to materials, construction, and land you get much more bang for your buck than when its going to the government. Plus there is that little part where the house and land can increase in value and you can make more. When that value goes up in Buffalo you just pay more and more in taxes.
