ChronicAndKnuckles
I'm not sure if he was eligible, but let's say Allen came out in last years draft. Do you think he would be a number 1 pick or would he be taken around the same spot as he did this year?
mead107
He didn’t so everything would be speculation. So I will speculate and say he would have gone in the 5th round. To New England. 1
Johnny Hammersticks
Had he entered the draft in ‘17, as he could have, I think he could have been a top 10-15 pick at least.
PirateHookerMD
Of course he could have been. Put him in the EJ manuel/Geno smith draft and he probably goes #1. Erik Fisher? Luke Joekel? Dion Jordan? Yikes.

whatdrought
I think he goes # 1 in most drafts that weren’t stacked. Probably would next year (although Herbert is well liked).
JimKellyTryouts
People said Cleveland very well could have considered him at #1 overall; lots of scouts and coaches were saying this draft didn't have a consensus top guy, and ranks varied greatly from team to team. Looking back, if we had the first pick this year, Allen (maybe Darnold?) very well would have been 1.

Over 29 years of fanhood
Answer is: depends who is picking. He may have gone first if Buffalo was picking this year. You just don’t know

Nihilarian
I think he goes number one in this years draft if someone hadn't leaked those tweets from when he was in high school. I have my suspicions it was someone who works at OBD because they didn't hesitate to move up to draft him and they were fighting with Arizona to get there. Just think that so many fans here wanted Beane to trade away the farm to move up to get Rosen at #2 with the NY Giants. I also think when it's all said and done the Giants will regret drafting a RB #2 overall.

So no, I don't think he would go No. 1 overall in any draft.

Alot of people thought the Browns would take Darnold. Rosen ends up slipping a bit...you never know what teams are gonna do or who they like. billsfan89
In the 2013 draft where Geno Smith and EJ led the pack I certainly think a player of Allen's profile would have been a top 5 pick. I think in most draft classes he isn't viewed as the top 1-2 selection at QB.
RobbRiddick
He did consider entering the draft last year but apparently got some advice from Wentz and his coaches and decided to play an extra year. Imagine how raw he would have been if he'd declared in 2017?

VW82
I think it would be very unlikely he'd go number one overall in any draft. Too many question marks and not enough success coming out of college. Allen profiles as the third round guy who a few teams fall in love with and take in the 10-20 range of the first round. He's Kyle Boller. There's someone like him every few years. To be clear, I'm not suggesting he's going to bust or won't be any good, just that he's another QB in a long line that entered the draft with superior physical attributes but not much success at the college level. Those guys almost never go number one. Edited September 30, 2018 by VW82
BigDingus
I think if he entered last year, he would've been a 3rd round pick at best. He benefited greatly from hype leading up to the draft (there's always 1 guy who shoots up based on size & arm strength), but you also have to look at which teams were where, and who needed what at that same point. In hindsight, I think every team who even semi-wanted a QB would now have opted for Mahomes without question. The guy is having a record-breaking year, and its his first season as a starter. Yesterday on ESPN, all the "experts" were talking about earlier favorites for MVP candidates, and Mahomes was the consensus #1 for all of them. So would Allen be taken before Mahomes? No. Would he be taken before Watson? Unlikely. But if he strings together some more pretty good games, the hindsight people might decide he could possibly go before Watson. 9 hours ago, whatdrought said: I think he goes # 1 in most drafts that weren’t stacked. Norcalbillsfan
We will see how Baker does, but people are kinda sleeping on Barkley cuz hes not scoring TDs, but if you really watch him play hes a game changer, he breaks the first tackle attempt amost every single time and falls forward for 2 yards every time. And he catches as good or better than any rb in the nfl. Hes a special talent
