26CornerBlitz
Gruden's Scouting System Led to Divide in Building Raiders coach Jon Gruden broke down film a certain way when he was preparing for games in the Monday Night Football booth. That method has not changed now that he's back coaching. But the manner in which he evaluates personnel -- and the people who have his ear -- has led to a disconnect in a Raiders building filled with people still trying to adjust to a new way of life. According to sources, Gruden essentially has his own staff that helps him judge talent and make decisions -- most notably confidant and Director of Football Research Dave Razzano -- along with a slew of interns and assistants. Gruden had his own draft board and has his own pro board, separate from those used by others in the organization. Previously a longtime and respected NFL scout, Razzano rose to prominence as a voice on Twitter with controversial takes that included Von Miller will be a bust and Jake Locker should go No. 1 in the draft. He was dubbed the "rogue scout," but now has an office near Gruden's. And while there is no animosity with GM Reggie McKenzie -- quite the opposite -- it's clear to many of the scouts who signed on to work for McKenzie that Gruden is listening mostly to those in his circle.

Troll Toll
I really don’t get the Gruden hate. They have been in both games to the end this year, one of which was against a Super Bowl favorite. There is a reason they moved on from the last coaching staff. Give the guy a chance.

There's no divide on the Bills because all of the scouts were fired shortly after Whaley got the axe and replaced with hand-picked pals of McDermott and Beane, mostly from -- surprise -- Carolina. IIRC, there was a report shortly after the Raiders traded Mack that Gruden's move caught the Raiders FO somewhat by surprise. I'm guessing that that report stemmed from this divide. McKenzie will leave first, Gruden will insert his 'yes' man in McKenzie's old position, the Raiders organization will look like a bigger $*&! show than the Bills, and Gruden is the first firing of the Vegas Raiders era.

The length and richness of the contract didn't make sense. It had more to do with generating interest in Oakland's last years and in Vegas. Too much emphasis was directed toward the cult of personality than with building a well rounded professional organization.

I think Mark Davis just made the best relocation move in the history of the league. The Las Vegas location is a gigantic opportunity for corporate sponsorship. Every hotel has to have a suite and every hotel's suite will have to be better than the other ones. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. He will make a vast fortune from that new stadium and he got Vegas to pretty much pay him to do it. That haircut is camouflage. Mark Davis is smart. To the degree he used to have players as roommates. So who kniows how good he is at that part but he has had ample opportunity to learn plus he really likes it. And this is unfair but without checking I think it is safe to say that bowl head haircut looking doofus has been outdoing whatever crop of geniuses we bring in since he got control of the team. Pfff talking out your wrong end, again. Davis is a buffoon who is openly clowned by other owners. He can barely dress himself. He inherited his team from his daddy. DuckyBoys
not a Gruden fan He did win a super bowl but it was with team firmly in place from the previous coach Tony Dungy. I think giving him all the power is going to backfire.

Best Player Available
Gruden cannot build a team.. He needs too inherit one ready for a deep run, and know the opponents signals and playcalls in a superbowl. Just ask the Bucs.

Alphadawg7
Gruden failed in Tampa Bay for one massive...MASSIVE...reason. And that was he completely lost the trust of the locker room. Players especially felt he was two faced and would lie to them or throw them under the bus. There is nothing worse ever for a coach at any level than to lose the trust of the guys out there playing for you and the staff around you. I have to say, I am surprised Gruden has gone back down these paths, I would have thought his time away and how things ended in TB would have helped learn from those past mistakes. This Raiders and Gruden reunion is off to a very bad start on the field, and now its getting even worse off the field. If something doesn't change and change fast, then this $100M experiment (mistake) is going to explode badly.
