Yeah maybe Daboll did open his up saying that McDermot had addressed the QB spot so he wasn't going to talk about it.

Listen later on in that interview, when he was asked about Josh Allen.  I'll try to find the transcript of the Monday presser.

Edit: I can't find a transcript.  It's about 1:45 or 1:50 in.  He was asked about Allen.  He said stuff like, "we were going to throw the ball from that moment on, being down that many points.  He (Allen) was able to move around in the pocket, execute some play concepts, move the ball down the field, handle it like a pro; I'm sure there's some things he would want back just like all of us....He's a young player that's still developing, that I have a lot of trust in."

There was a change in body language and facial expression when he was talking about Allen that sounded like an endorsement, then he went back to the kind of tensed up, defensive posture and careful speech not to throw any players under the bus while taking responsibility himself.

That's like saying Rex Ryan needs to coach better.

Or Andy Reid needs to manage the clock better.

Or jamarcus Russell needs to lose weight.

We all know what needs to happen.

It doesn't mean that those involved have the capability to do so.

Agreed, but at least McD said something about them rather than just deferring to "well, I think everyone, including myself, needs to do a better job".

Bills coach Sean McDermott: It's 'right time' to start quarterback Josh Allen

Orchard Park, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Bills are now Josh Allen's football team and coach Sean McDermott said he "doesn't feel the need to elaborate" on why he's decided to bench Nathan Peterman.

"Josh will start. ... It's the right move for our team," McDermott said. "We talk a lot in house about decisions and things and what we've gotta do, and the right move at the right time. And right now this is the right move."

McDermott is pivoting away from Peterman after just one game. The national and local media called the coach's decision to go with Peterman questionable, and the criticism grew after the second-year quarterback stumbled against the Baltimore Ravens.

I feel bad for (Peterman) but he's not an NFL quarterback or close," Barnwell said on his podcast, "The Bill Barnwell show." "They are a rebuilding team, but it just seems sadistic to do this to (Peterman) who's not able to do this for a living. It seems like it's going to kill your credibility as a head coach if you keep running Nathan Peterman out there."

Kb literally looks like he forgot how to catch.

He also looks likes the wr version of Jay Cutler in terms of his demeanor... Not really what you wanna see from a guy who we expected to be a crazy try-hard in a contract year.

I sure hope McDermott isn't pushing for Peterman due to him being a fellow bible thumper. Everyone needs to be on the same page here...

Can we stop with this idiocy?  Seriously.

I find these comments extremely offensive and if it was the other way around you wouldn't like it.

Stop!

Damn right.

Too bad neither of them look like they give a sh*t.

We are like the real life version of the Indians in "major league".

Right down to the surprise playoff berth that electrified a fan base..

Only to see the team suck again immediately

It's an inexcusable and crappy attitude but maybe he thought that this offense can't move with Nate in and his effort and demeanor showed it. On the Allen pass he tried 100% and ran full speed he just dropped it. No excuse but still...

Anyone want buy my NFL Sunday Ticket subscription? This series sounds like it’s going to be ugly, and there’s still fifteen episodes left!

Record, then binge watch in January, 2019?

(That could be construed as cruel and unusual punishment if certain scenarios play out.)

I don't recall Clay from Sunday (probably because he sucked so bad) but Benjamin looked like a mopey turd out there.  I'm not a big fan of his attitude.  Him calling out Cam apparently out of nowhere just screams of lack of accountability and how its always someone else's fault.  I hope he proves me wrong (not that I matter but you get my point lol)

How do I know that's not part of his culture drive?  Are you saying with 100% certainty it is not?  How would you know this?

Agreed.

That's a big issue though.

Guys who are supposed to be your best players checking out because they think the team sucks.

It's guys like KB and clay who are supposed to be the ones that make us good.

If they only play hard when we are good, then how will we get good??

Viscous cycle of bad.

You can't prove a negative so your questions make no sense. Maybe He started Peterman because peterman is secretly a time traveler who is also McD's dad can you prove 100% that Peterman is not in fact a time traveling secret father?

Yep.

You don't recall clay from Sunday, because clay doesn't even recall clay from Sunday.

He ghosts games like he's dodging thirsty thots on tinder.

Yup. Controversy sells. True journalism is a dying art.

Can you blame them? McD refused to elaborate what went into the decision.  Football coaches are the worst when it comes to this. These aren't nuke codes.  Christ.

Judging from McDermott's demeanor during the presser, I agree with you on the 'credit'.  I don't think this was a case of "OK, we roll with Peterman, either his preseason improvements will hold in the regular season or we can switch to Josh Allen without people calling to give Peterman a shot if Allen struggles".    That may have been how Daboll viewed it.

I think McD genuinely bought into Peterman's improvement at QB from pre-season.  I think he genuinely likes and admires him and viewed him as epitomizing success according to his values - a hard working, faith-driven young man who worked hard and deserved his shot, and didn't deserve to get the hook after only one game.

I think Daboll may have had a come-to-Jesus meeting with McDermott, reinforced by Beane and maybe others, but Man! McDermott didn't handle it gracefully.

Well stated. I'm seeing a lot of red flags on McD's ability to evaluate personal, giving faith and amiability too much of a halo effect over talent. I'm very curious to know the dynamics of the McD/Beane relationship - i.e. how much is Brandon able to push back on his coach.

He was more than likely pissed the report was leaked before the press conference.

This ^^ x100. I was my opinion thatbthebleak pissed him off. In fact,  he started of the press conference without saying who the QB would be but rather let a reporter ask the question.  McDermott has tried really hard to plug up leaks in the organization and this was a biggy to be released.

Judging by McD's presser appearance, I'd say Allen starting was a T Pegula decision. Which I'm OK with if true.

I disagree. Looked like he was upset to have to be conducting a press conference and justifying things to the media. I'm sure he's not happy about Peterman sucking so bad that the fanbase completely turned on him and derailing his plan to start Josh later in the season.

Well this does pretty definitively bring an end to his career as a starter and to be honest he doesn't look like much of a back up either. Hard to be cheerful when you've had to tell someone their dream just died.

Exactly, I hope to never see Peterman start a game for the Bills again, but I have nothing against him personally and it's still sad that it didn't work out for him.

These things are usually more subtle than that.

Having been in a few rooms where it was going down, the usual mechanism is that managers and executives tend to feel more comfortable and have a more positive view of people we "resonate" with because they remind us of ourselves or of people we admire.  It happens to everyone unless they're consciously aware and fight it.

The bottom line is that Peterman looked better overall in preseason, Allen did not look ready, and McDermott rolled with that viewpoint and didn't look very far under the hood.

I 'm beginning to think the culture McD claims he's building has a whole lot to do with exactly that. Anyone know if Castro is an evangelical Christian? Ducasse? Benjamin?

In any organization, personnel matters are internal. There's no reason for him to tell reporters what happens inside the meeting room.

I think AJ and his wife were devout Christians actually.  Still don’t know why he was traded.  Nothing really would surprise me though

And who says that fans "need" to know?  Who cares? The Bills owe nothing to any fan.  If we don't like it,  we don't support it. Also, as far as the media goes, ANYONE with two brain cells to rub together can figure out what his response is going to be after the 3rd time asking the same question.
