This is all an assumption by you with no evidence.  He specifically mention Peterman's preseason as a qualifier to temper expectations which he did not do with regard to the OL.

Exactly...he is clearly using the preseason for the o line as proof of future failure but for peterman everyone should temper expectations...because it is just preseason.  I dont see what is so hard to grasp about this concept.

Because he didn't state it and it was already seen as a weakness as I've posted a few times already.  Again you assume.  If they didn't play a down in the preseason, I'm betting he would have the same assessment based on who makes up the starting OL.

What I don't get is how in one sentence Daniel Jeremiah says that Peterman looked good in preseason but had to point out its JUST preseason...and then followed it up with how poor the line played...in the PRESEASON.  I'm not sitting here saying Peterman OR the line will be good but if people want to discount preseason it should be consistent and not just cherry picked to fit an agenda.

Agreed

Now you are assuming betting that he would say it and I am betting he wouldn't lol.  I concede if you do lol.

I sure am.  What do you think he'd say about Dawkins-Ducasse-Groy-Miller-Mills as an OL unit with no preseason play?  Not impressive at all.

Ok so we aren't conceding.  Cool.  My point is that it is clear the HUGE emphasis on the line being awful really picked up steam after preseason game 3.  I know many analysts thought it would be a weak point but it appears clear the fervor of late  from analysts over the line is from the preseason...again...if they use that they should use Peterman's preseason performance.  It is pretty clear what I am trying to say.

At this point, it matters not. We'll see what they bring beginning tomorrow.

How many games did Bucky play for the Bills?

biggest bust of all time

Again, Brooks was not “decent.”  To me, decent means a player is ok....serviceable when needed.  The Bills have several decent lineman on the team.

As a DB, Bucky was far from decent.  He was given multiple chances and he failed to sustain any success.  He never even hung on for an entire season.  Teams cut him after a few games before he was bad.

Bucky was not decent....he was below average.  It’s ok to admit that

No he’s spot on and he defeated you using your own logic.  The Bills OL has never played 1 game as a unit.  Using the body of work in the preseason to evaluate the performance of players during the season can be misleading.

I said a “decent stint as ..l” not a “decent “DB . A stint is a period of time at a job . 5 years is above the NFL average. It means nothing about the quality of the job holder. He did ok for himself. There is nothing to admit. I never said he was any kind of good player, or even draft pick. There absolutely have been worse second round picks made by the Bills. Troup was a worse pick than Brooks, for example. I don’t even think he ever suited up for the team. That is worse.

How was Troup worse a worse pick for the Bills?

Bucky played 3 games for the Bills!  3 games!!!!  Never caught a pass.  Returned 9 kicks.

Troup played 21 games and never did much.

So both players were taken in the second round.  Both players suffered injuries and were essentially flops.  Both had minimal impact.

So again, to me 21 games in the NFL seems like a much better return than 3.

This is why Bucky Brooks was the worst 2nd round draft pick in Bills history!  Prove me otherwise

He was a very bad pick but again Cyrus played 25 games in his 3 years with the Bills and started 7 games.  Some of those games in his play was actually passable.  He was never great but the Bills got a much better return than the 3 games that Bucky played.   Bucky returned 9 kicks for an average of under 20 yards and fumbled once.  That's it.

Kouandijo > Bucky

I think Troup was worse because the Bills had needed a TE for years and they passed up Gronkowski to draft Troup. No one great was selected after Brooks in round 2 , and Gronkowski wasn’t exactly a secret. He was a 1st round talent coming off an injury and everyone knew he would go somewhere early in round two. I don’t recall if Brooks got injured his rookie year or whatever, but to me Troup’s futility coupled with the forgoing of Gronkowski makes Troup the worse pick of the two. Maybe because Brooks was so long ago and the team was still pretty good after that. Just my opinion, you see it differently and that’s fine.

Three offensive lines to watch in Week 1

Buffalo Bills

By now, we know Nathan Peterman is starting under center for the Bills, which was the least expected outcome when looking at this roster in June. AJ McCarron is off to Oakland, and rookie Josh Allen will be watching Buffalo's Week 1 contest from the sideline.

So how did we get here? Well, believe it or not, a lot of it had to do with the play of Buffalo's offensive line.

After the Bills lost three-fifth's of last year's starting line -- left tackle Cordy Glenn (via trade), guard Richie Incognito (reserve/retired, then released outright) and center Eric Wood (retired due to injury) -- struggles were expected. It's nearly impossible for a team to replace three of its best linemen in a single offseason, especially with one of those departures (Wood) arriving in unexpected fashion.

Buffalo didn't exactly help itself, either. The Bills had Cordy Glenn under control (albeit on a hefty contract) but with injury history on the brain, GM Brandon Beane decided to ship out former GM Doug Whaley's prized tackle, sending him to Cincinnati in order to swap late-round picks and move up nine places in the 2018 draft. Buffalo eventually used that pick to move up again to select Allen, so it wasn't a fruitless deal, but it's one that's hard to sell immediately when the line in front of Allen acts like a sieve.

Dawkins didn't play in the most-criticized preseason contest: Week 3 against Cincinnati. His backup, veteran Marshall Newhouse, started in his place. The combination of Newhouse and average guard Vlad Ducasse drew the most attention for line issues, including a well-circulated clip of Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins lifting Ducasse off the ground and into the chest of Allen for a sack. It also convinced many that Buffalo should wait to play Allen, even if that's not the provided reasoning for awarding the job to Peterman.

The optimist says this group will get better with time together, but that's a lot to expect from a pair of linemen who were essentially backups last season and are playing against the best rushers on the planet. Ducasse eventually replaced John Miller, who was benched after four games. Miller is now starting at right guard, while Ducasse starts on the left. The keys to this unit emerging as servicable (the bar is low at this point) is the play of Dawkins, who had a better second half of last season and new center Ryan Groy, who was named starter Sept. 3 even after Buffalo signed Russell Bodine in the offseason.

As of now, though, best of luck to Peterman. Perhaps they'll surprise us. Perhaps.

You see what you see, I saw what I saw.  I was not a Peterman fan at all, but if you count one tomato, two tomato when Allen threw on that timescale, the ball was gone before the Bengals got there....just as it was gone before the Panthers got there.  When he didn't or couldn't (because of play design) he got buried, just as I'm sure the Panthers would have loved to bury Peterman before he helped Benjamin show them up.

You're absolutely correct that Daboll didn't do any favors by switching up and experimenting with the line.  It's also a significant point that Dawkins was out, and there's a veritable talent cliff behind him.

I guess we won't agree on the Panthers game also. They hardly stunted, unlike the Bengals. So it wasn't even closeasier to being comparable. The cream will rise to the top. NP is a practice player when there isn't that much pressure on him. Once the heat comes it will prove out.

As McDermott says, "Last year is last year".

You are absolutely right.  I don't think as bad as some thought that it could be this bad.  Outplayed and outcoached on every side of the field.  We couldn't even say we punted well.  The little spark we had was provided by rookies

Please take their key cards, hire a cab and get this worthless pieces of trash off the premises at One Bills Drive.

All three need their pathetic attempts at a career in professional football to come to an immediate end today.

Juan Castillo has been a running joke as an offensive line coach for years and his input on personnel on the line is every bit as his poor technique he coaches.  You take the combination of subpar talent, mix in lousy coaching and you get 6 sacks, no first downs in an entire half of football and the laughter of the entire NFL community.

Ducasse and Newhouse have one common skill, the unique ability to be pushed backwards like unfit slugs at the beach having sand kicked in their faces before they are pushed into a sandcastle.  They then fall and flail and help knockdown their own QB's.

I am convinced Juan Castillo would make better money starting his own product line of authentic salsas, queso dip and pico de gallo.

The cans would be in a lime green tint, with Castillo in a poncho and a sun visor.  The name "CASTILLO brand" would be in large red letters. There would be a little adobe house and a burro in the fenced in yard, and the logo would be something like "It's not authentic if it isn't Castillo"

Unfortunately I think it'll be a year before we can get some guys in who can actually play the position (draft picks, free agents, etc.). Not sure why Castillo is so in love with his former player Ducasse. But, I'd be happy as hell if Wyatt Teller learns the playbook and pushes his way into the starting lineup at either guard spot sooner rather than later.
