One example please. We haven't had a promising rookie since Kelly. Did the Seahawks ruin Wilson starting him? Did the Eagles ruin Wentz starting him?

It’s very clear and very simple: Start Allen in 3rd preseason game, give him the whole first half. He plays well, he starts week 1 period. He struggles, let NP start at least week 1. Then McD can look to switch to Allen early in the season as he progresses in practice if NP isn’t getting the job done. End thread. Mike Rodak ESPN Staff Writer Nathan Peterman took the initial snap of individual drills in Bills practice Sunday, followed by Josh Allen. Reporters cannot watch 11-on-11 drills starting Sunday, but it is logical to assume Peterman will continue to lead the first-team offense for at least part of practice. AJ McCarron (right shoulder) is not practicing Sunday, along with DT Kyle Williams (knee).

JP sat his entire rookie year except for mop up duty in 4 games. His 1st game, he looked horrible. Are you saying he shouldn't have played a down? The truth is, the guys who failed never would have been any good even if they sat for a decade, like Todd Collins did in KC & Washington before having some good games 10 years after his last game as a Bill. If JP had sat for 10 years, we could have unleashed a monster on the NFL. Come to think of it, it's been close to a decade since JP left the NFL-he should be ready now for anyone willing to give him one more chance. The light finally has come on for him, he has great potential now.

Jerome007
I think 90% of most us - make a poll maybe - would agree Allen should start preseason game #3 and play with the 1st team. The rest can be determined later.

transplantbillsfan
It's pretty obvious to anyone other than SaviorPeterman/BurpleBull/BullBuchanon (all clearly the same poster) that Allen is starting week 1... I've been saying it since OTAs, actually. But I think McDermott is going to withhold it publicly as long as possible to try to get some upper hand on Baltimore. Remember... practices are now basically closed to the media. No need to name the starter as long as McDermott is giving reps to Allen in practice. colin
i done tole errybody, JA is our starter and our champion. He played under center in college, so he's actually more NFL ready than most picks. He also has a big brain, a big body, and a big arm, on top of being a sick athlete. The guys bringing up EJ in here need to give their heads a shake. No good player at the NFL level gets ruined (unless it's from injuries). EJ was a turkey to start with, and has been a turkey ever since. He hasn't had a positive impact in the NFL since his HORRIBLE pick six to EJ Watt in Houston which lead to his benching and ended his NFL career for all intents and purposes. Get used to winning guys, you are gonna get sick of it.

apuszczalowski
It is all going to depend on the coaching staff (and front offices) belief on whether they think Allen would be better to 'sit and learn' or 'learn while doing'. If they prefer the later, Peterman will start but not because he earned it by beating everyone out like believed earlier in this thread, but because they cant get anyone now who can learn the offence and be ready quick enough to start week 1. If they believe Allen is at a point where they believe he will learn more by playing, he will start week 1. If he does start, expect this season to be a rollercoaster with ups and downs and just hope that Allen is strong enough mentally to learn from his mistakes and build off them and not let it get to him. 26CornerBlitz
Joe B: Context is key with Josh Allen getting Buffalo Bills first-team reps (WKBW) - Many of you throughout the day logged on to your respective accounts across the scope of social media to find something a bit different about Monday's practice for the Buffalo Bills. For the first time, Josh Allen took a full day -- or so we're led to believe because media can't see the practice in full anymore -- of working with the first-team offense. The excitement level just on that information alone was enough to warrant some background information behind the overall decision to give him first-team reps on Monday. Through all the Josh Allen flossing and "It's happening!" GIFs out there, I don't mean to be a wet blanket of sorts, but I think it's more important to understand the context of where the Bills are in their decision at quarterback. So, quite plainly, where are they with that choice? To be determined.
