Lamar Jackson Lining Up at Other Positions During Practice

Throughout the offseason, Baltimore has been putting Flacco and Jackson on the field at the same time.

With Flacco playing quarterback, Jackson has lined up at multiple positions.

"Gosh, I sure like him out there helping us," coach John Harbaugh said of Jackson. "If you put two quarterbacks on the field at once, what options does it create for our offense? That's what we're trying to figure out."

Well at least he only needs to remember like 5 plays and they are probably all hot route or take off and run type plays. I think this has disaster written all over it.

Or QB

Im suprised that Jackson isnt bucking this a bit.....maybe after he fell just happy to be a first round pick.

I still think he has a chance to be good.

I don't even think it would be for him to really play the position. It's training camp. I think it's more on how they are training him to see different views of the NFL.

Maybe, but Harbaughs quote has me thinking they want to see him actually play somewhere else in order to try and gain an advantage of having two qbs on the field at once.

Well probably have some trick plays lined up. It could involve him some in the season. I just don't think it would be to specifically feature him at different positions. I could be wrong.

I would agree with you on that, but who knows what they see in practice.

this is a bad idea because flacco offers no other capabilities in the game other than throwing the ball, now if they had tyrod and lamar maybe it would be harder to determine what was going on

You think?  The QBs wouldn't know what was going on.  The HC and OC obviously wouldn't know what was going on.  And the fans in Baltimore would certainly demand to know "What the hell is going on?!?!"

Before or after they ran into each other in the backfield?  LOL.

Nah, new play dynamic.  Centre snaps to QB, he and other QB play 'keep away' from defenders.  Tires out the defense.

EDIT:  It's also the 'counterpunch surprise' to the Bills starting Peterman on opening day.

I see it as the Ravens have a mindset of what type of QB they want and what they have. I think it's just the coaches way of teaching Larmar the offense and how to see everything.

I mean maybe if you get a feel for what's going on at other positions you memorize what's going all over the field. I think it's them being more serious about a guy they want to groom.

Stupid imo.  It may help them win a few more games this year but it also puts him at risk of injury and may stunt is an growth working on different aspects, while he should be becoming the best QB he can be

I think he is not doing well learning the playbook or looking good in practice sessions. I'm guessing they are already on him trying to be a WR or he's not making the 53 man roster.

Yeah, they are likely to cut their 1st round QB that they traded up for...

Flacco has one more big guaranteed year on his deal, they can get out after the year with like only 8 mil dead cap.

At most he has 3 left on his deal if it plays out.

Maybe the Ravens are committed to Jackson, assuming he can develop, and have told him this, and he's taking their word for it.

I give them credit for being creative and trying to use all the assets they have on offense. Designing a few plays and different formations may keep the defense off balance. The problem will be once the plays are used for Lamar, Flacco has to either become a blocker or a receiver, which probably won't go well. Defenses are fast so it may be more of using Lamar as a receiver and runner out of the backfield with various RPO's based on the defense.

They have to figure out ways to put Lamar out there. He’s too good not to be playing. I don’t think he takes Flacos job yet but eventually he will.

Exactly.  He is one of the greatest athletes to come out of college football since Vince Young, and he’s an electric playmaker.  They’d be crazy to not find a role for him out there.  Even if it’s just a few jet sweeps or gadget type plays here and there.  Get the ball in his hands, or at least make the defense account for him.

He’s faster than V Young, he might even be able to outrun the bill collectors!

Or the mind to learn a full qb package PLUS 2-3 other positions in gimmick roles

Every team has 500 plays in their playbook (even if it's 100 basic plays). The quarterback has to learn how to call them all and where everyone lines up and what they do on them all in a generic sense. The idea that it is taking time out of his ability to learn the playbook/offense because of the 10-20 gadget plays they may put him in IMO doesn't lessen his ability to learn the offense at all. It's the same thing as 10-20 other plays.
