The NFL is a lot faster than the games at East Carolina State. The wheels in his head are tuning too slowly, but that shold change as the season progresses. Kaenon
Sure, a bit... But none of our wide receivers have more than 3 receptions in any of our first 3 games. Tyrod Taylor doesn't throw down the field this year. Just check downs to RBs and some passes to the TEs. We might as well not have WRs. Â Week 3 - 6 WR receptions Matthews: 3 Holmes: 2 K. CDogg20
He needs to catch the first td that bounced off his hands. Last week I stuck up for the kid but doing that on a regular basis will end up in a lot of picks... I still have high hopes for the kid tho. EmotionallyUnstable
Agreed. For a player who was supposed to have an excellent catch radius and being sold as a sure handed receiver, he has missed a number of opportunities that you would expect an NFL receiver to have. Lurker
Â Â Catching the ball cleanly seems to be his biggest issue. He's had some attempts that would be difficult for seasoned vets. That ball that bounced off his hands in the EZ today was catchable, but tough nevertheless. Â Still, it bears watching. I thought his technique was weak on the ball he droped in the Carolina game--jumped unnecessarily and/or too soon, making the attempt that much harder than it needed to be. EmotionallyUnstable
Â He was known for his excellent hands. Exactly. The TD pass should have been caught as well as the slant later in the game. TPS
In addition to being a rook, i would think it has a lot to do with the slow progression of a new offense. Let's see what happens in the second half of the season.

Augie
I'm confident things will slow down for him and he'll be all we hoped for. It takes a little time, especially from a smaller school. It's not a talent deficiency, it's getting comfortable between the ears.
MarlinTheMagician
How hard do we have to strain for negativity. Zay will be fine, and he contributed greatly as a blocker today. 3 games in for a rook receiver, relax!

KingRex
I looked in depth at one year where the general consensus was that it was a strong deep draft. Â After 1 season slightly less than half of each team's #1 picks were first on the depth charts of the team that chose them. There was a steep drop-of #2 picks who were first on the depth charts their second sason. Â Folks are right its only 2 games and quite frankly if he ends the season as a back-up on the depth chart he still is far from a bust s a rookie. Â Eric Moulds career is more like it than a 2nd round pick becoming a star as a rookie. Â Pa.

Kelly the Dog
I'm confident he will get in a groove soon. But he had two bad drops today. He has to catch that slant in the endzone. That's an easy TD and we were very fortunate with the bounce. I expected him to have a good game after last week's ending and he was worse. But I do think he will get comfortable and then become reliable.

Kelly the Dog
Different era. It's much easier for WRs to make an impact earlier in their careers these days. Â Mounds didn't play his first year because Marv hated rookies still and really wouldn't play them out of principle. It was just stubborn and stupid. He was more ready to play than people remember. And then when he played he was immediately pretty good. Maybe it was because of year three but the main reason he didn't play early was just a policy by Marv. BillsfanAZ
It is frustrating to watch him drop passes he should catch but it isnt like they are hitting him in the chest.
