Sunday Ticket 2017

I received my form letter from Directv about the 2017 a couple of days ago. In it, I saw the statement "Your NFL SUNDAY TICKET subscription subscription will renew automatically. Look for the first of six easy monthly payments of $62.99 on an upcoming bill." At the bottom of the statement in smaller print was "If you decide to cancel, you must call 1.800.531.5000 no later than September 10, 2017."

Like most, if not all of you, I have never paid full price for Sunday Ticket. Every year, there is always that Directv call. Years prior I was interested in what others had negotiated so I always went to a similar thread on TBD for reference.

So, I called that number, and stated I wanted to change my programming. I assume that a first level rep picked up. We spoke very briefly and said I wanted to cancel Sunday Ticket because it was too expensive. I also reminded him that I was a long-time Sunday Ticket client and also an AT&T mobile account holder. He came back on the line and told me that there would be no charge this year for Sunday Ticket Max. I was a bit taken aback and asked him to confirm which he did. Shortest call I ever had with Directv and great start to a weekend. Hope everyone else does as well or better.

Wait, are you sure they weren't saying you still pay the $400 for Sunday Ticket but they're giving you Max for free? To me that's not a good deal because I wouldn't get Max anyways.

Beware! I went through this exact scenario last year and got into a huge fight with DTV. If I'm wrong then I apologize but I'd bet dollars to donuts that you only are receiving the ST max for free while still paying for the base ST package.

Thanks Herc, LJC, and Tony P (which is also my real name). I called back and Max was free but on top of the $62.99 x 6 regular payments. Told them that was too much and call was escalated to a manager. I am getting it free this year. Will receive a confirmation email and got the employee ID of the manager that made the change. Still good news :worthy:

Ah the annual Call DTV thread.

Yes you call them and ask for a discount.

Most (long term) customers get a price break. That $62 is for ALL NFL programs.

I opt out of that and pay for the smaller package for $29 a month.

I believe it comes to about $10 per game. (17) weeks.

It's the same with all programming. I call every 6 months and ask for discounts.

I get all HBO's, Showtime, Stars, Cinemax, etc, and a sports package all for $150 a month.

I usually start my call off a little more aggressive & start off with telling them to cancel my acct. When they ask why, I explain the truth, I only have DirectV for the NFL package but it is way too expensive so just cancel it & I'll live with the Xfinity that I already have at my house. I currently have 10 TVs set up in my house, 8 on Direct & 2 Xfinity.

Go Bills!!!!!

Very interesting that the op was able to get it free. I litterally just renewed my contract with directv and asked for the Sunday ticket and they wouldn't give it to me. The guy I spoke with said to call back in August and ask for it again when their might be promotions happening. Was kind of pissed about not getting it. I've been paying $150 a month for my directv and for that price they should've give it to me

Do you have a college student in your family or at least know one? If so drop Direct tv and pay $99 for the season. Stream it on one of your streaming devices like firestick, roku, Apple Tv or whatever else you have.

I've done the kodi and streaming websites and they're ok but not 100 percent reliable.

What's the deal for students?

I don't know, but I might be willing to go back to school fore that. (I've actually been looking into some classes, and the savings might help pay for them. :) )

Usually $99. Streaming only. All you need is a college student's name and school. Apparently they have a database and know who goes where. Once you confirm a name you can use any email or credit card.

This is so cool (or sad)! I might qualify while my kids will not!

Usually get Sunday ticket for free, call and ask for retention department right off the bat. Just be honest, tell them you want it for free, and they'll work with you. DTV has SPIFs for everyone, just need to call and ask. Can use them for free HBO, etc.

Man,

I been thinking I wasn't going to share this because I don't want to ruin a good thing for myself but the cats out of the bag.

My kid turned 16 in November and got his drivers license in May. My car insurance went up over $1000 every six months.

Needless to say, I started looking everywhere in my budget to save. My DTV bill went UP that same month to some ungodly rate so I called them.

I've had DTV for 19 years which gives me cache. I cancelled the Ticket last year as Rex was a buffoon.

When I called, it was just about lowering my bill. It had nothing to do with the Sunday ticket. I lucked into some high level lady in " retention ". She halved my monthly payment for the next 12 months and SHE brought up the Sunday Ticket. I told her I wasn't planning on getting it this year again as my team wasn't looking good( this was a lie , I was going to make my annual call as it got closer.)

She offered it to me for free!!!! I'm sure it is the base Ticket but Hot damn....

A couple thoughts:

The times they are a changing. DTV possibly has a failing business model. With the competition from all these other streaming services they may well be on a downwards slide.

I'm a dinosaur, in terms of technology, and am comfortable with what I have. My wife actually got a Firestick a few months back but my surround sound couldn't be used with it so we took it back. I see that it( or something like it) will be the way to go in the future as DTV gives me a million channels I have no use for.

In the near term, I'm afraid if we all start calling asking for The Ticket for free but paying full price is ridiculous.

Anyone know if you can get ST without DTV?

Like the poster said above. Pay for the streaming option. Also like I mentioned earlier. If you know someone in college you can get it at a discount. We paid $99 last season. I'm sure it will be similar this year.

I pay, but my out of town son uses my log in, and the in town son comes over, so I feel like I'm getting a great deal. I can live with that...

Sounds like a good deal. Fyi to anyone else if you do the stream option it only allows 1 login at a time.

£140 for the International Game Pass. Best £140 I spend every year. Every game live (except those being shown live on UK tv) all the Football Life archives, Undrafted, Hard Knocks, full access to NFL Network all year round..... absolute bargain.

I do feel your annual "negotiation" game pain though. I have to do it every year with SKY Sports (which shows some NFL but also shows all the soccer). You have to say you want to cancel, get a cancellation date, wait for the retention team to ring you back and offer you a deal £15 a month better than the one you are on..... they know you aren't really going to quit, you know you aren't really going to quit... it is a total charade, but their business model relies on a certain % of people just seeing their bill go up year by year by year and doing nothing about it.

Yes, this is what they just offered me, it's the MAX add on that's free. You're still paying full price for the base NFL ticket.

I had line of site issues for years. I finally got it last summer. I was super pleased right up until I discovered yesterday my 2 year agreement only included 1 year of the price. Everything goes up 70 percent in August. I am livid. I plan to cancel late July. They can Eff off on the early termination fee as well. I can drag that out a year. Eventually pay pennies on the dollar when it goes to collection.

Why can't any of these scumbag corporations do an honest business? I'm sure it was in the contract but I am also sure it was hard to find and deceptively written.

Im pretty sure this is only possible if you reside outside of the US (EDIT: if you live in an apartment complex in the US, and are unable to have Directv, you qualify)

But you can do like I did last year and use a VPN, download the apk version of NFL Gamepass, and stream the games in the US. I paid the full amount, however ($200). Gamepass is Chromecast compatible, so I watched live streams on the big screen. Only issue is the sound is slight distorted with the live stream, as opposed to a direct satellite feed.

Yeah, but they are now giving it away for free?!

I didn't think that had been the case in the past. It never was for me. I've cancelled it before and never had it given back for free.
