njbuff
2 hours ago, B-Man said: July 2019 Was Not the Warmest on Record August 2nd, 2019 by Roy W. Spencer, Ph. D. July 2019 was probably the 4th warmest of the last 41 years. Global “reanalysis” datasets need to start being used for monitoring of global surface temperatures. We are now seeing news reports (e.g. CNN, BBC, Reuters) that July 2019 was the hottest month on record for global average surface air temperatures. One would think that the very best data would be used to make this assessment. After all, it comes from official government sources (such as NOAA, and the World Meteorological Organization [WMO]). But current official pronouncements of global temperature records come from a fairly limited and error-prone array of thermometers which were never intended to measure global temperature trends. The global surface thermometer network has three major problems when it comes to getting global-average temperatures: (1) The urban heat island (UHI) effect has caused a gradual warming of most land thermometer sites due to encroachment of buildings, parking lots, air conditioning units, vehicles, etc. These effects are localized, not indicative of most of the global land surface (which remains most rural), and not caused by increasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Because UHI warming “looks like” global warming, it is difficult to remove from the data. In fact, NOAA’s efforts to make UHI-contaminated data look like rural data seems to have had the opposite effect. The best strategy would be to simply use only the best (most rural) sited thermometers. This is currently not done. (2) Ocean temperatures are notoriously uncertain due to changing temperature measurement technologies (canvas buckets thrown overboard to get a sea surface temperature sample long ago, ship engine water intake temperatures more recently, buoys, satellite measurements only since about 1983, etc.) (3) Both land and ocean temperatures are notoriously incomplete geographically. How does one estimate temperatures in a 1 million square mile area where no measurements exist? There’s a better way. More at the link: https://wattsupwiththat.com/2019/08/02/july-2019-was-not-the-warmest-on-record/ . Gee, July is the hottest month out of the calendar year. Color me shocked. B-Man
IT’S COME TO THIS: “McDonald’s has admitted that its new paper straws, rolled out last year to help ‘protect the environment,’ can’t be recycled — unlike the plastic versions they replaced.” As Steve warned in April of 2015, “McDonald’s is almost certainly doomed. Or at the very least, [Steve] Easterbrook is the wrong guy to head up the burger chain — any burger chain, for that matter. To understand why I’ve come to this conclusion, read the very next line from the story: Easterbrook plans to unveil his plan for turning McDonald’s into a ‘modern, progressive burger company’ on May 4.” . OldTimeAFLGuy
Al Gore: 2006 Global Warming ‘Point of No Return’ Claim Was ‘Accurate’ Trent Baker 11 Aug 2019-BREITBART Former Vice President Al Gore discussed his 2006 warning that unless the nations took “drastic measures, the world would reach a point of no return within 10 years” when it comes to climate change and global warming. Gore said his “point of no return claim” was, unfortunately, “accurate,” but celebrated that the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates have made climate a top priority. “You said back in 2006 the world would reach the point of no return if we didn’t reduce greenhouse gases in 2016. Is it already too late?” asked ABC News’ Jonathan Karl in an interview which aired Sunday on “This Week.” https://www.breitbart.com/clips/2019/08/11/al-gore-2006-global-warming-point-of-no-return-claim-was-accurate/

Arctic could have no ice in September, shocking study says By Chris Ciaccia | Fox News A shocking new study says that sea ice in the Arctic could completely disappear through September each summer if average global temperatures increase by as little as 2 degrees Celsius and climate conditions continue to worsen. "Most likely, September Arctic sea ice will effectively disappear at between approximately 2 and 2.5 [degrees] of global warming," said the abstract of the study, published in Nature Communications. "Yet, limiting the warming to 1.5 [degrees] under the Paris agreement may not be sufficient to prevent the ice-free Arctic." https://www.foxnews.com/science/arctic-no-ice-in-september

B-Man
FIGHTING THE BLACKLIST It appears that Nature Communications is already backpedaling: You should be aware that, following a letter from me yesterday to Nature Communications, the “learned” journal in which the “peer-reviewed” “research” “study” that is the subject of your press release was published, that journal has removed all reference to the offending purported “study” from its homepage and has added to the page containing the purported “study” a paragraph indicating that it is investigating “a number of criticisms related to this work”, and has removed altogether the list of names of the alleged “deniers”, including my name. With respect to climate, as on pretty much every other issue, the Left is losing the argument and responds by trying to silence those who point out the facts. The jury is still out on whether this will prove to be a winning strategy, but on this particular front, it appears that the bad guys are in retreat. B-Man
The climate change crisis racket by Taylor Day Original Article Do Democrats really believe in the climate crisis they have dubbed an "emergency," or is it really just a way to make a quick buck? Beto O'Rourke has suggested spending $5 trillion over the next ten years investing in climate change initiatives primarily for "vulnerable communities." Not to be outdone, Kamala Harris was one of the co-sponsors for the "Green New Deal," which proposes $700 billion a year in spending on a utopian garden future. Bernie Sanders, also a loud supporter of the GND, proposes going even farther and banning any new developments that would require fossil fuels. B-Man
THE LEFT DISCOVERS ECO-FASCISM How charming: the left has belatedly discovered something conservatives have known for 50 years or more—that environmentalism, especially in its dominant ideological forms, is prone to fascism. Remember that “environmentalism” very quickly replaced “ecology”—the more generic scientific term—not long after the first Earth Day in 1970. Keep in mind that the left was initially indifferent or even hostile to “the ecology craze” (as some leftist critics called it at the time), but they soon figured out the potential for the issue. “Ecology,”New Republic writer James Ridgeway wrote, “offered liberal-minded people what they had longed for, a safe, rational and above all peaceful way of seeming to remake society . . . [and] developing a more coherent central state. . .” Except for the “safe, rational and peaceful” part, he was on to something! And people think it started with the Green Nude Eel. For a good background to this, see Elizabeth Nickson’s book, Eco-Fascists, or this excerptfrom Rupert Darwall’s fine book Green Tyranny: Exposing the Totalitarian Roots of the Climate Industrial Complex. It has always been considered bad form to point out that the German Nazis had a conscious environmental quotient to their ideology, but what’s this? The Washington Post noted yesterday that two of the recent mass shooters—the New Zealand shooter last year and the El Paso shooter two weeks ago—embraced environmental themes, fusing them together in fact with anti-immigration views. The Post is shocked and befuddled at this seeming anomaly (though to be fair, the Post notes as briefly as possible: “Ecofascism has deep roots. There is a strong element of it in the Nazi emphasis on “blood and soil,” and the fatherland. . .) But this is only anomalous to clueless liberals, who suffer cognitive impairment when it comes to imagining the connection between the anti-natalism of the “population bomb” mentality and seeing immigration as a driver of population growth: .
