Am I a horrible human being?

Recommended Posts

So my wife sends me an email from work today that basically says "I'm going to a conference in Vegas, flying out Saturday January 10th. Would you want to see if my parents can come watch the kids so that you can come out too?" and my first thought was "What if the Bills are in the playoffs?"

I am horrible, aren't I?

I think that is a totally reasonable if not prudent thought process. No shame in that whatsoever.

But yes, you are a horrible human being.

No, Ed's a horrible human being. You're just nuts.

If you ask me, Ed's wife and Sage's wife are the horrible human beings for no longer allowing their husbands to post here and for commandeering their respective family's pants.

As for the OP, making the playoffs is one thing, but a home game? Would you rather watch on a television at home with screaming kids running around or on a television in Vegas with scantily clad women running around?

I've already informed my wife that if she wants to make plans for a sunday next fall, it would have to be halloween weekend

Catch an early flight, 1st game isnt until 1 or 1:30pst, bypass the check in and proceed directly to the sports book :)

I do the same thing. Plan my whole life around the season and possibility of the post season. Other than Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, I never commit to anything with $$ involved other than flights and tickets for Bills games.

So no, you're not a horrible human being..you're just a good Bills fan.

Now, your wife on the other hand? Perhaps you need to train her better

What's the problem. If they play on that Saturday get an early flight & watch it at one of the many sports books available on the strip. That would be a great time.

The Policy Sci department here at Brockport planned a trip to Croatia and Czech Republic that would last the first two weeks of January. I had decided not to go because "what if?"

Luckily the trip got moved to May, so now I can have my cake and go to Europe, too.

I had a similar dilemma, and i think i insured a 1.00pm Kickoff Playoff game for the Bills on January 4th. Visiting friends in LA week after Christmas, and spent hours agonizing when to come back.

My gut told me that on the off chance Buffalo would get a home game, that would absolutely be Saturday night as the networks pray for a night time snow game.

Setlled on a 7AM flight on Sunday, gets me to RDU at 2.30 or so. So only window i am screwed is if the Bills have the 1pm game on Sunday.

Mark it down now, Bills playing at 1.pm Sunday.

I think I am a bad human being. My sister's first child is being Christened on Sunday afternoon and the meal afterwards will run into the Bills game. I told my sister that she had to check the venue had wi-fi so that my NFL Game Pass will work. I mean I say I am a bad human being but I am not religious so I don't know whay I should have to go in the first place.

I'm missing all of Arsenal's soccer game - I'll be damned if I am missing the first half of the Bills as well.

Correct! The last time I checked, they had TVs in Vegas. Time away from the kids ... in Vegas? Tell your wife if she can talk my wife into watching my kids, I'll join her ;) hehe

I dunno...watching and gambling on a Bills playoff game at a Vegas Sportsbook, and then having the rest of the long weekend in Vegas, sounds pretty damn good to me.

Playoffs...Vegas...no kids???? GO GO GO GO GO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amazing how much value that has these days, huh? Wife and I just flew to Palm Springs for a wedding; 16 hours of travel for less than 48 hours on the ground and we were totally psyched.

I can't watch sport recorded. It isn't the same. The thrill is from the fact anything can happen. I have never been able to do it. I can watch back a full game I have already watched to look at tactics though whether in soccer or football. I know... it's odd.

i watch almost every Bills game recorded so we can watch later in the day with no commercials or halftime. I won't have the car radio tuned to a sports station etc that day so I don't hear the outcome or even in progress scores. If I know the outcome it does take something away from the experience. But the mere fact that the game itself is over has no effect on me.

Once when we got home my wife turned on the 6pm news and it was exactly when they showed the Bills final score.

Now the standing rule is if anyone seems her making a move for the remote, she gets tackled ;)

Yeah...we all love our kids but a good break every now and then is a bonus. After my first was born, my wife and I didn't go on a vacation for almost 6 years. Went on a cruise and I still say it was the best vacation I ever took. We always joke, however, that we could have taken a bottle of wine, two lawn chairs and sat behind the dumpsters at Kmart and felt the same way. :D
