Agreed that this is a big year for Epenesa, but then again a bunch of us were very down on Knox after his second year.  Gotta be patient with the youngins' sometimes.

Will be very interesting to see who dresses week 1. Neither Lawson or Epenesa play STs. One of them probably doesn't dress. Based on preseason Lawson should play but reports from camp said Epenesa was ahead of him.

A lot of cheddar but I think this is similar to the JA17 signing.  It's going to look like a steal in 2-3 years.

He's got fantastic tools and he's a big RZ threat with the potential to be a lot more.

Love this signing.

The problem with all these contracts that look like a bargain on the surface is eventually the chickens come home to roost.

And whether or not the Bills do find real success this year and win a SB, a lot of these guys (and their agents) are going to demand more money as they see other (in some cases lessor) players get big paydays.

I really don't like it. Knox is a fine player, but he's far from an elite talent based on what he's shown so far. I think he's closer to top 10 than top 5. A team that's a league favorite shouldn't have to overpay for mediocrity the same way we did when we were in the drought. If he wanted top 5 money, i would have rather drafted a replacement and signed a guy like Gesicki to mid term.

We aren't going to have a tight end like Gesicki who cannot block at all...

A replacement is a risk when you know what you have in Knox who is paid top 5 now but will be way down in a year or two.  He's actually 6th according to Spotrac.

Allie-Cox, Pitts, Fant and Hockenson will probably pass him in a year or two.

I'm sorry but this is a ridiculous take.

"If the Bills are successful then the successful players will want more money!"

If that's the main concern moving forward then sign me the eff up.

I love Knox and glad he’s staying.  Money seems a bit high, but it’s not my money.

I think it’s interesting that he signed before Poyer, Edmunds, and Oliver, for whatever that’s worth

When you factor in the current contract that he's on for this year, this puts Dawson Knox's overall contract at 5 yrs, $56ish million, which is just over $11 mil per year average. This slots him under Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry.

This is an extension so I would be surprised if they didn't add some money to this season and the bonus is spread out over the 5 years starting with this season.

Kelce signed his extension 2 seasons ago.

The next guy up almost always gets the biggest deal. Who would have thought we’d have $50 Mil/year QB’s 3-4 years ago? I think Gesicki is making a bit north of $10 Mil, and as you point out he can’t block. If you are paying attention you realize the numbers only go up. Beane has been signing guys before he has to, and in return for them getting paid early, we get decent value.

I have no complaints that he isn't an elite player. I have complaints that we're paying him like one.

His salary is between David Njoku (on the high side) and Jonnu Smith/Hunter Henry on the lower side.

Dawson Knox is as good or better than all of them.

Kelce's contract has nothing to do with anything.  It's a completely different set of circumstances.

Knox is getting paid "today" right where he should be in comparison.

He's a good blocker and with his athleticism, he puts pressure on linebackers that have to cover him downfield.  He was a project coming into the NFL and has developed well...he's gotten better every year.  Should we have waited until he has another great year and have to pay more next year?

If he puts pressure on linebackers needing to cover him, shouldn’t he have more than 49 receptions?

The tweet mentions that the deal is expected to put him in the top 5 of TE's. We know what the top 5 makes.

Based on what?

- 18th in TE receptions

- 15th in TE yards

- 22nd in TE yards per reception

Only stat he is one of the best is tight end TD's.

Vey impressive for a 4.th option don’t you think ? It’s about explosive plays as part of a super deep group of skill players.

Considering Kelce makes about $1M more a year, I highly doubt that will come to pass.

Probably worth noting that Kelce is getting paid $1M more per year at age 32 and his contract grows to $18M per year by age 36.

Dawson Knox is 25 years old.

Something to consider before you go reach for the tissues, BullBuchanan.

Well this is pleasant news amongst the pro wrestling mess from this week, which I only mention because I'm going to AEW Dynamite tonight up at KeyBank.

Anywho, the Beane-McDermott draft > develop > extend has yielded...

-Tre White

-Dion Dawkins

-Matt Milano

-Josh Allen

-Taron Johnson

-Siran Neal

-Dawson Knox

-Reggie Gilliam

I'd imagine guys like Edmunds and Oliver are next in line for an extension. Maybe even late round guys like Jaquan Johnson who they seem pretty high on. And I think this season will determine whether they keep Singletary or Moss.

He's 25, getting better and just came off a year where he lead the league in TD's.  They aren't signing this guy to that if he didn't make an impact or don't expect him to keep making a difference.  In 2 years, he will barely be a top 10 paid tight end.

Was it a mistake the 49ers to pay Deebo Samuel when he only had 77 receptions?  It seems that's the only stat that matters with you.

Beasley being gone frees up a ton of targets and Knox is more of a possession type of player than McKenzie. I’m counting on it.

What did Beane and McD talk about in the off-season?  Run after catch yardage.  McKenzie will eat.  Cook as well.  Knox will get his, but the ball will be spread around like it has been.
