re Williams, did you see the last 3rd down where Williams allowed the sack? Someone posted the video in another thread here. He stood there for like 2 seconds while his man went by him. And that was the game!! It knocked us out of FG range.

Meanwhile, the Jags RT was moving 2 seconds before the snap. Quite a difference!

Dawkins has never played guard in the NFL.  I don’t see this happening

Actually he filled in some for Incognito as a rookie and looked GREAT at guard.

I don't think he'd look good anywhere this season though......clearly diminished by the illness.

There's no hope for the o line this season.

We will need 3 new starters next year. Ideally 4 because Dawkins is awful, but realistically with the contract we gave him he's not going anywhere.

I don't think you can replace more than 2 and not lose ground because of continuity.

Maybe 4....?....Spencer might be the survivor. The Chargers revamped their entire OL in 1 offseason. Why can't we?

I'd advocate trying the following O-line for a few series at least and see what happens.

LT - Brown

LG - Dawkins

C - Morse

RG - Boettger

RT - Williams

There is no PS player that is going to save this situation.  What do you all think of this idea.  Williams is a much better RT than a guard.   Brown looks capable of playing OT in the NFL.  Dawkins is good but not elite at LT.  The current guards are turnstiles and can't move or block anyone.  Morse is what he is.  He's solidly above average pass blocker and poor run blocker.  Ford is just a massive bust.  Bates is a tease.  He is probably not capable of playing any position for any length of time but he is a good game-day injury option that can back-up all five spots.

I agree with this, Dawkins was never a LT. He gets totally undressed by speed rushers or high end DE’s. He was a LG, he is a LG, and he needs to be a LG. Morse is an average to below average center he gets Zero push on the LOS. Honestly this entire O-Line is epically bad and will ultimately be the reason that we are 1 and done in the playoffs.

Top available 2021 NFL free-agent offensive line players

1) Russell Okung, Carolina Panthers
2) Mitchell Schwartz, Kansas City Chiefs
3) Kelechi Osemele, Kansas City Chiefs

All three of these offensive linemen could yet be contributors in the remaining weeks of the season. If the Chiefs suffer an injury at either tackle position, Schwartz could be an option as he knows the scheme and would be comfortable on the line. Okung is an intriguing one because he is talented enough to be a left tackle in the league. It will be interesting to see if he gets a call down the stretch if we see any big injuries at the tackle position.

I really hope Tommy Doyle develops and becomes a solid starter. Would like to see him at Guard. Even though he is 6’8 I think he could play some Guard. Hope they try it out next Year preseason…. We know Spencer Brown is a stud hope Tommy Doyle is also.

Williams got paid and shut it down. He’s been really mediocre this year. Mongo was never all that great, but I wouldn’t mind letting Morse go this off-season and having Mongo or Bates take over at center. Mongo has actually looked decent at center. Use the money from Morse to bring in a guard who is worth a damn. Then draft at least 2 OL.

Yes I did.

There was another play the DE was in a wide 9 and Williams off the ball went right inside and blocked no one.  The DE was in Allen's face immediately.

Not just getting bear physically but making mental mistakes all over the place.

That could be on Allen too.  It's not uncommon that the QB is responsible for a wide pass rusher.  If the line is supposed to block one way then the QB needs to recognize that and either shift the line or know he has a free rusher.  It happens all the time in games.  Not saying that is what happened but it might explain the reason there was a free rusher.

Mental mistake is also an issue with the virus. My boss caught it. He said after cleared he still was in a fog for 6 months or so. It was confusing to him.

I think he should be sat down but I don’t think his drop off in play this year is because he got paid.

I got Covid a month ago. Yes, I was vaxxed with very easy symptoms to deal with.

No, I’m still not right.

Nothing can be done about the OL right now. Its just shuffling a bunch of chairs on the Titanic at this point. Beane deserves the blame for this. He is the GM, he is responsible for putting the roster together. While he has done a good job overall with this roster he has failed with the OL. This will be a priority in the offseason and he needs to hit a HR in the draft/FA in improving it. When was the last time the Bills got a running game from their RB's? When Allen is your leading rusher almost every single week that's a big problem.

I am in agreement with letting go of the OLine coach as well as  addressing the oline needs in the draft.

Hopefully Spencer brown is back next week and we can see the line up of Dawkins, Bottger, Morse, Williams and Brown.

I think Brown brings the attitude that rejuvenates the OLINE, the running game was better and we ran to the right more when he was playing.

We should be working out GUARDS this week, or trying Ryan bates and the Douglas kid.

I hoped FORD would have worked out but it's time to end that relatioship.

If his inside info is right again, we may see Spencer Brown at LT sooner than we think. I would guess when everyone is healthy the line will be Brown - Dawkins - Morse - Feliciano - Williams.

If that's true Dawkins will probably get flipped to right tackle not guard

He's easily one of our top two tackles and Williams has played guard

Maybe but why would they flip Dawkins to RT just to put Brown at LT? Brown was better at RT in preseason and Dawkins has played LT most of his career here. I assumed if Brown was getting put at LT it would be to move Dawkins to guard and keep Williams in the spot he is better at. Or maybe they have lost faith in Dawkins entirely while he recovers from covid. It is a weird move to consider but that guy has legit inside info.

Dawkins was always a tackle with the ability to play guard.. he was actually really good last year

Brown has more Length to protect The blind side.. and if he shows he has the agility he should be a fine blind side tackle... Dawkins has been struggling with speed rushers, but naturally should be able to dominate ends at right tackle in the running game and he's way more agile than Williams

There's zero chance he's worse than both of them and right tackle is still super important

And Williams has already been playing guard and Dawkins hasn't

For the rest of this season, the best we can hope for is getting Brown and Feliciano back and go with Dawkins, Feliciano, Morse, Williams, and Brown.

In the offseason, the OL is going to be blown up big time.  Last off season it was the DL ( 2 draft picks and a FA signing).   Brown and Doyle will remain, and Dawkins and Morse are likely to stay imo.  Everyone else is either likely gone or has a reduced role along with reduced salary.

In the upcoming draft, I'm leaning towards the Bills selecting an OL guy in first round.  It's the one area where Beane has not used a first rounder yet.  I count Diggs as a first rounder since we traded a 1st to get him.

I’d advocate to bring him up now. What have we got to lose? We know what we have on the active roster and it ain’t good enough. Also Jamil Douglas -a rookie the brass thinks enough of to protect him many times this season. Weave these guys in on early downs to get their feet wet. Give them the opportunity to be better assessed before the Draft & FA.

I know McDermott is typically loathe to play rookies, but SB Windows are notoriously small these days and what we’re putting on the field isn’t getting it done. At this rate, I fear we’re gonna lose Josh to injury.

Absolutely not.

This year Williams has been really good at G and pretty bad at T.

When Brown is healthy at RT, our two best players are at the positions that are most important, with the best player at the most important spot.

Boettger? Maybe. I just don't think he's been better than a healthy Feliciano. When healthy, this line has mostly (certainly not entirely, but mostly) been OK once they got Williams inside and Brown playing. When unhealthy like yesterday, considerably worse.

Dawkins hasn't been the same after COVID, but still better than putting someone else there.

Jamil is not a rookie (NFL Stats), but I do agree with you. He has NFL starting experience, and they must like him as they have protected him. I said it in another thread, time to give both him and Bates a chance, can they be any worse? They both have started and have had enough success to stick on the team.
