Everyone claimed Josh had no talent around him at Wyoming to justify his meh college stats, so nobody should be happy to bring in anyone he played with.

Exactly what I was thinking. Not thrilled with the signing.

Not exactly. Hollister is more of a attached TE and will be more a Lee Smith replacement. Bills still need a receiving TE to push Knox

Ertz coming here is a long shot anyways. Philly wants too high of a pick and Buffalo won’t give it up for a TE that’s in decline. Unless he gets released and signs with us immediately for the vet minimum, we’re most likely drafting one and developing him

Hollister does not deserve to be put in the Lee Smith category as a TE receiving threat.  He was the #3 WR on Seattle's 4000+ yd passing offense in 2019, 3.7 receptions/game, 31.7 ypg.  He ain't Kittle, Waller, Hunter, or Kelce but when did Pat DiMarco, Reggie Gilliam, or (fergoshsakes) Lee Smith do that in the NFL?

Hollister's snaps fell off the first part of 2020 after Seattle signed Greg Olsen, but he still made some catches when his snap count increased at the end of the season.

Decent depth signing and really not a Lee Smith replacement I think - I don't think he can block anything near Lee Smith's abilities

Lee Smith was a TE ?? I thought he was
OL-man

I suspect they are fine going into this season with Knox, Sweeney, and Hollister.  If they can add someone in the draft, that is gravy.

i don’t get the Ertz love anyway. The guy seems pretty broken down.

Other than Pitts, which we are not getting, the draft is really bad for TE

forgot about Gilliam.  I like that guy.  He flashed a few times this season.

The edge defender that can contribute right away is the big ?? for me.  I don't think you get a day 1 contributor through the draft at 30, so we have to get one in FA or hope AJ improves.

I think Hollister may have a career year in TD receptions. He's way better that Lee Smith in Red Zone situations. I'll put the under / over at 6. He may also improve the run game with his blocking in 11 or 12.

The reason Allen had no talent around him his Jr year in Wyo is because Gentry, Hollister, center Chase Roullier (starting for WFT) and I think 2-3 other guys for the NFL after his Sophomore year.

Gentry was on the Bears PS for 2 seasons, waived at the start of camp, then injured after the XFL picked him up.  Hollister was signed by NE for 2 years then the Seahawks traded for him.

It's not like these guys are game-changers (if they were, they wouldn't be signing on cheap deals) but it's not like they're trash no one else in the NFL has rostered, either.

This is Lee Smith or Reggie Gilliam replacement not Knox. At least I hope. Played in TE friendly systems and not produced as a receiving threat. I almost see him more as a Patrick Dimarco or how they used Gilliam this year.

Still need to get Ertz...

At 245 lbs, he is no Lee Smith replacement, unless you are talking about occupying a roster spot.

No talent his senior season most agreed he had NFL caliber talent in his junior season when Gentry, Hill and Hollister played with him.

It’s because people are making excuses for him because he played with a bad QB on a bad team. Some guys want to give him the benefit of a doubt for some reason. Just like you idk why

I like this signing.  If we can't get Ertz, Hollister is better than any guy we would draft, and would be our TE2 out of the gate.  I'd say he's an above-average TE, not bad for TE2.  Also consider we have WR's that can do TE type work in Beasly and Sanders in terms of red zone opportunities.  Then you add Knox and Hollister.  It's not bad.  Not thrilling in the sense of adding an all-around weapon, but in short yardage adding him is a plus.  Also plus run blocker.

And some people just like to pretend that they know it all by looking at stats.
