Punching Bag
Jets' Marcus Maye critical of Gregg Williams' blitz call on Raiders' winning TD https://theathletic.com/news/jets-gregg-williams-blitz-marcus-maye-raiders-henry-ruggs/l4HKZ3sAU1FW?source=dailyemail Subscription required Quote New York Jets safety Marcus Maye had harsh words for defensive coordinator Gregg Williams after Sunday's 31-28 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, after the Raiders exploited Williams' all-out blitz for the 46-yard game-winning touchdown with five seconds remaining. Maye said multiple times that the defense "should have been in a better call" on the game's deciding play, which began with the Raiders facing third-and-10 with 13 seconds left near midfield and the winless Jets leading 28-24. Williams brought seven rushers, with an eighth coming in late, against Las Vegas' seven-man protection, leaving undrafted rookie cornerback Lamar Jackson one-on-one with Raiders first-round rookie Henry Ruggs III down the left sideline. “We have to execute, but you have to help us out at the same time," Maye said, adding he wasn't "criticizing" anyone but that "different situations could have played out better." The CB bit on the under route. Why? We'll never know. Then Ruggs with those 4.33 wheels just runs right by him with Carr dropping in the perfect ball. I'm sure those players are tired of losing as well as hearing about how bad their team is. I'm sure they were trying their hardest to finally get that monkey off of their backs of being a winless team. It didn't happen. Williams has done this before, many times. What i question is why was an undrafted rookie on Ruggs?

But 6 or 7 or whatever guys? Are you insane? You really should also play zone, and you should play deep. 20 yards over the middle? even 25... that leaves them with a quick spike and one shot at the end zone. This is a lot like the situation buffalo faced with Murray - but Carr isn't nearly as athletic.
Doc
Yeah, coaches and players don't play to tank since their jobs and sometimes bonuses/incentives are on the line. And it took a last-second low-percentage play for them to lose.

I do not want to drop out of the top 10. We need to get another mauler for the o-line and set the line up for the next QB. That strategy worked well when we had Ferguson and Mangold. See if you can get a 2nd plus some other picks for Darnold.. Probably add another WR and some OL help in RD2.. Regardless, this is going to be an uphill battle for the Jets.. Both Miami and Buffalo look like they’ll be continuous playoff contenders for the next 5-6 years and New England is a team that will always be tough to beat with Belichick there.. Doesn’t look good for the Jets..

They are, in order: 1) The QB situation 2) How much power they have been promised 3) Ownership and GM competence Having a lot of cap space just means you have no talent. It's a selling point, but kind of a lame one. The minute you take the job the clock starts. If you don't start winning significant games, you'll be fired within 2 to 3 seasons. So building a team from the ground up seems great, but it is also a huge risk.

Hapless Bills Fan
1 hour ago, Bob in STL said: Nope. One WR and one CB. That is not a Hail Mary. Just a simple stop-and-go pattern and a deep ball. Not every long pass is a Hail Mary. A Hail Mary typically has multiple WRs going into one spot forcing multiple DBs to play there as well. It is a chaos play and a prayer. The Jets played man coverage with no safety help. The QB read the blitz, stepped up in the pocket, and hit a deep bomb, for an easy and uncontested catch in the end zone. Greggo gambled on a sack and gave up the easy long pass. So wait, you're saying our Hail Mary loss in AZ...wasn't?

If GM and HC are in sync like in Buffalo it helps but I do not see their GM as competent. Power does not do much other than 53 man roster for a coach. If he is a veteran coach who wants GM / HC role he will be absorbing work for 2 and not good in this situation. The QB picked, if they do not go that route and decide to trade picks for players/picks, should be someone in sync with HC and the HC needs to be involved in all steps of that pick including interviews with players they may not pick. If they have #1 pick they do not need to worry about hiding interest unless they are open to trading #1 pick.
