Evil People

Harvey Weinstein. I guess there's some distinction between evil and just plain sick, though they aren't mutually exclusive. And lots of people do evil things without that being the sum total of their character. People can be complicated. So I asked myself, what makes someone evil? One answer was someone who takes pleasure in the suffering of innocent people. Harvey got off on forcing women to submit to him. He loved the power. And yeah, he's a sick puppy, but he falls squarely into the Evil category for me.

When I was researching PhD programs, I had a fleeting interest in forensic psychology.  Used to watch every serial killer documentary I could find.  Ed Gein is one of the most disturbing and evil individuals I came across.  Dude was freaking twisted.  Major authoritarian mommy issues.

Arthur Shawcross is one I heard about frequently growing up in central NY.  I worked at a furniture store on Lyell Ave. that was a few doors down from the bar from which he abducted a lot of his prostitute victims.

Richard Allen Davis - Wikipedia

Polly Klaas was having a slumber party in 1993 at her Petaluma, Ca home, when a strange man holding a knife entered her bedroom, tied up all the girls and put pillow cases over their heads. The intruder then kidnapped Polly, raped her, killed her, and discarded her body off of the side of the freeway hidden under a piece of plywood. Her body was not found for two months.

This POS left an impression on me when I listened to his sentencing back in the 90's.  When asked by the Judge if he had anything to say, he responded:

''I would also like to state for the record that the main reason I know that I did not attempt any lewd act that night was because of a statement the young girl made to me while walking her up the embankment: ''Just don't do me like Dad.' ''

No I believe everyone is innantely evil and in spite of their environment they can choose to not be evil.  Not saying everyone is John Wayne Gacy but everyone of us are capable of lying, cheating, stealing etc which are all evil sinful acts.

Everyone has evil urges not everyone acts on them.

So a 4 month old baby is evil? I mean, they would be part of "everyone".

I think you’re setting the bar for evil a little lower than the rest of us.

One of the most beloved figures in the country. Known as "America's Dad." Turns out to be America's most prolific serial rapist. Used his fame and fortune to single out women he fancied before drugging and raping them, all while chastising people like Chris Rock and Eddie Murphy for their use of coarse language.

This all went down when I was a kid but it was always on the news because I watched it with my Dad after he came home from work. This crew I would say is/was nothing but pure evil.

We watched a documentary a week or so ago regarding this and I saw and heard stuff I never had... and I thought they were pretty horrible already.

And he was open about it..

He wasn't completely clean even in his act

He did an act back in the day about "Spanish fly" look it up

The whole bit is about drugging and raping women. He just hid it in his comedy

Do I really have to specify that this doesnt encompass 4 month olds?  Also thats an oddly specific number.

My bad, I should have put 5 months and 11 days old. What year/month is your cutoff time between good, innocent, and evil?

Ummm...you specifically said “everyone” is born innately evil, and in spite of their environment can choose to not be evil.  Soooo....by your definition an infant or toddler is born evil until they choose to not engage in “evil acts.”  Which is it dude?  You’re not making sense here.

If even half of the stories are true about him, he was the worst of the worst.

I suspect that his assessment is based on the concept of "original sin." I don't happen to subscribe to that philosophy, nor do I think that any person is inherently good or evil; I simply recognize that every person is capable of performing good deeds as well as committing acts of evil. Some people choose to do more of the former, others emphasize the latter.

Indeed!  A first-rate scumbag.

I was going to list him, but you beat me to the punch!

I have been reading a lot about this guy, as I find his story quite interesting.

He genuinely falls into the "evil" category IMO.

Every culture has myths and folktales about, essentially, "The Boogie Man."

People like Epstein are why those fables exist.  The Boogie Man is real from time to time.

Are you saying everyone is born evil, and must simply choose not to be evil. Or everyone is born both with both good and evil capabilities and chooses between the two?

This was my knee-jerk response.

I went to SUNY Albany and lived on campus the first year. Their dining halls at the time were notorious for having seriously disgusting food. (I lived in State Quad, but all of them were pretty bad.) One day we hung a huge banner in the dining room. It read: Albert Fish Memorial Dining Room

And now @Joe in Winslow believes in reincarnation......San Diego style.
