Jets hire HC Adam Gase: A+ Grade
This is the best hire of this offseason. Adam Gase, once called the "next Bill Belichick" by Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, coached two of three seasons in Miami with his starting quarterback healthy. In those two seasons, Gase took the Dolphins took the playoffs once and had them in postseason contention in the other before Ryan Tannehill got banged up during a victory against the Patriots and was never the same after that. Tannehill, by the way, was one of the worst starters at his position in the NFL. It was quite amazing and impressive that Gase was able to keep the Dolphins in contention despite not having a viable quarterback.

This won't be a problem with the Jets. Gase will be able to coach Sam Darnold. This seems like a great fit. Gase has coached up bad quarterbacks to play well, and average quarterbacks to perform on a somewhat high level.

Gase will be able to help Darnold take the next step. This is a fantastic hire, fully worthy of an A+.

I thought better of you Yolo... That was always going to be a ***** show.

I thought he was a clown when he was with the Jets.  But I also hated Marrone. I was on the rebound.

An interesting question... has hiring a same division re-tread ever worked for anyone?

There was this one time when a defensive coordinator with the Jets got the head coaching job and resigned at his introductory press conference and then took the Patriots job.

The AFC East is essentially a soap opera.

Eh. I’d rather the Bills face MM two times a year but not scared of Gase either.

We’ll, it’s certainly not as awesome as it would be if the Phins hired Rex, but it ain’t bad.  The Jests are truly a stupid organization.

I think BB coached the Jets before he went to New England. Bill Parcells coached the jets then took the Pats to a super bowl.

What QBs exactly has he coached up?

Kitna, Shaun Hill, Cutler, Tannehill? Oh yeah, it was Peyton Manning smh. Poor Jets fans

As I've said before, it's concerning that his team seemed to lose all fire, but it's hard to gauge a HC when Tannehill, Jay Cutler, and BROCK OSWEILER. He's also been able to beat New England twice in 3 seasons. More than you can say for ANY Bills coach since the BBTB era.

Would have much rather seen them hire McCarthy.

This is the same BS that keeps Jim Caldwell circling the NFL head coaching tent.

Sucess as an offensive coach when Peyton Manning is playing QB is the biggest forest for the trees in the NFL in the last 20 years.

Not a bad argument, but it misses due to the fact that the dolphins were supposed to be competitive at that time. They were (in theory) meant to be a good team, while the bills were meant to be rebuilding.

Not to say your argument doesn’t have merit, but it’s worth noting that it’s not a 1 for 1 conversation.

But the Dolphins were competive in that time.

10-6 WILD CARD in first season with combo of Tannehill and Matt Moore.

Second Season...dumpster fire, BUT lost Tannehill and had Cutler or Worse.

Third Season, in Wild Card contention until Week 16.

it just needs to be said that Bills fans really have no leg to stand on when dissing Gase as he had better results And the head to head was 3-3 so it’s a push on that.

Fans need perspective

But three seasons is usually the length granted. McD needs to take a big step forward next year, or the bills need to look elsewhere.

Also, Gase had several issues throughout his tenure, and this year he made it a point to clear out players (his best players) to develop “his” culture, and it was a culture of nothing.

Also, Gase is billed as an offensive genius, but his offense isn’t worth anything. McD has had good defenses in Buffalo.

Mcdermott is 3-1 against Gase. As a gameplanner McDermott is all over Gase's s*** on offense.

I do think its a better hire than McCarthy.

He was not their first choice

Why would they think a guy is going to go for them telling him who he can have on his staff? If you don't trust a guy enough to pick his own staff how can you trust him to run your team? I don't get these type of micromanaging decisions...hire a person ans let them do their job

By who??

Yes.

Gase has at least looked competent against BB.

McDermott has gotten his ass handed to him every game against the Pats.

Not really...the final scores might have gotten away but McDermott usually plays them pretty tight for at least a half or even through 3 quarters...there is also quite a big talent gap as well...

Perspective?

The irony is thick here.  We've been on a complete rebuild, found our franchise QB and happened to make the playoffs along the way.

Context is your friend

The head to head was 3-1 McD, and Gase would have gone 0-4 if Clay  makes one catch.

You remembered to include tannehill’s injuries but forgot to include that McD lost his starting QB for 6  weeks this season and had two guys off the street playing QB

it was also Gase’s decision to bring in Cutler last year - and pay him 10 mill! He had him in Chicago for a year and arrogantly thought he could win with him, or he wouldn’t have paid him that much.

the roster excuses are hard to take seriously - considering he had full control over the entire thing

Gase has had good success against the Pats with minimal talent in Miami. If I had to guess, this played a part in the jets decision

Are they counting that bogus win they had against Pats* on the hook and ladder play when Gronk was playing safety? Because that ain’t happening EVER again.
