They'd look really smart if they moved up to #2 and the guy they traded up for got picked #1 now wouldn't they?  It's not rocket science.

Why didn't the Jets follow your logic?

Obviously they feel strongly enough about at least 3 players that they don't really care which one falls to them.

Can't argue with that

Everything will depend on who the Browns pick at 1. If they pick Mayfield then the Bills dont have to move up as high to get a QB. They can get Rosen or Darnold in a trade with the Browns at 4. If Cleveland picks Darnold or Rosen at 1 then the Bills might have to move up to #2.

One of two things.

1. The Giants want to see who goes #1 overall.

2. The Bills want to see who goes #1 overall.

Because Beane was asleep at he wheel.

It is obvious you are not a Beane fan but what has he done that hasnt been a good move? So the Colts decided to trade with the Jets to move back to #6 instead of the Bills at 12. How do you know the Bills havent had a deal in place the whole time with the Giants if the board falls the right way? Or the Browns at 4?

It's going to be Baker.

More likely, the Giants have their price and no one has met it yet.  The clock also isn't ticking yet.  Does DG take the best offer on the table or does Beane blink and give up more?

So true. Maybe none of the top pick teams want to go down to #12. It's possible we have to give up next year's # 1 as well to get to four and Allen is the one left. I can hear the screaming now.

Probably, but we just "found out" today.

The Giants probably wanted to see who the #1 pick would be before trading down. I also doubt they want to move all the way down to #12. They need an impact player and might not get one there.

My guess is that if the Giants move down Cleveland has to play ball with the #4 pick. The Giants need to wind up with Barkley to appease their fans and upgrade their offense and that's the farthest they can drop to ensure they get him.

They'll get one at 12.  They can worst case get one of Ward / Nelson / Fitzpatrick / James / Smith / Edmonds at 12.  But if 4 / 5 / 6 are all shopping to move out, they can very likely go back up.

IMO the Giants are currently asking too much, very few teams can match it, with multiple QBs on the board teams are willing to let the Giants sit and make a pick and see what 4 / 5 / 6 wants, unless Giants lower their asking price to take the best available offer.

Who knows.  Beane and DG could have had a deal in place contingent upon who is at 2 for months now.

Yeah I agree with you on the bold part.

The issue is they might be set on one of Barkley/Nelson/Chubb and more than likely none will be available at #12.

I think the bills need to get to #4, #5 or #6 if they want the Giants pick.

And if the Bill's want a QB they can get one at 12 also, possibly the leftover of the top 4, Jackson, Rudolph or others. But the difference is if the Giants want to almost guarantee themselves a game changer like Barkley or Chubb, or a lower tier guy.

The Guants can stay put and get what most are calling the best player in the draft (or grab Elis replacement) if they dont get what they want in return. It's not like they walk away with nothing if they dont trade back

I'll answer a question with a question - why did the Jets move up weeks ago vs waiting until tonight?

Because they’re fine with one of three options that will be available. Maybe we want to know “our guy” is there before paying through the nose. Maybe the Giants and whoever else wants to know their guy ISN’T there.

Same reason they gave up a ludicrous number of draft picks to move up.  Buffalo's move up to #12 sent them into full panic mode, so they pulled the trigger early and grossly overpaid.  The Jets acted on panicked impulse, the Bills are acting with a plan and composure.

I wonder if we can't move up if we don't try to pry away Nick Foles or Andrew Luck? I know Philly wants to move up and Indy has lots of needs and seems happy with Brissett under center.

  Philly wants to move down because they want picks in rounds 2 and 3 they currently don't have.  Foles or Luck?  Come on man!

I believe the Bills have a handful of Quarterbacks they would be comfortable with drafting.  But each one has a different value.  And as such, they are only willing to trade so much to move up and get that player.

Based on the fact they haven't made a trade yet (I'm making the assumption the Giants are even willing), my guess is that Brandon Beane only has one QB with a "premier" grade.  And they aren't going to make a trade with the Giants, unless they are certain that player is still available.  They can't be absolutely certain until the Browns make their pick.

If that top QB is gone, I imagine the Bills will wait for the Giants and Jets to make their selections.  If there is still a guy they really like, I imagine they will start working the phones for Picks #4 and down.  Once again -- they have a price they are willing to pay, and a cost that is too expensive.  Depending on how each scenario plays out, I think Beane has prepared himself for trading up to #2, trading up to #4-10, picking at #12, and possibly even waiting until later in the draft to grab his QB.

As a fan, I can only hope they have done their homework and don't get cold feet on pulling the trigger for the right guy.  I don't want them settling for a long-shot, just because they weren't willing to part with enough draft capital.  At the same time, I don't want them desperately trading everything for a guy they don't believe in.

Assuming this wasn't a total panic/desperation move, I would assume that New York has at least 3 Quarterbacks they would be equally comfortable with landing.

You just answered the first question.  Moving up now makes your plans obvious.  Waiting keeps everyone guessing.

Most Bills fans here will be bleating like stuck sheep once the Bills don't move up to the #2 spot for an overhyped QB.

I believe they are waiting to see how things develop once the Jests make their pick at the #3 spot.

Both Darnold and Mayfield should both be gone by this time and the bills will need to see what Denver will do with their pick. I also think that both Rosen and Allen will fall past the #5 spot and if Beane really wants either of those two he should make a move now to beat Arizona, Miami or other teams wanting to move on a QB.

Who do they want and who did Cleveland draft.

Once we have those answers- we can move up.

Because Cleveland was not trading #1 and the Giants are not trading with the Jets - so they traded as high as they could get and way overpaid to get there.

hey Irv.

i've mentioned this elsewhere. Beane is a pretty smart cookie. he doesn't intend to give away precious draft capital that he doesn't have to. with picks 2, 4, 5, 6  and 7 possibly being up for grabs, it has esseentially become a buyers market. in a buyers market the price drops. Beane wants to see how the draft shapes up before making his move. i am quite sure he has deals in place with at least a couple of those teams i mentioned with the top picks. he also probably has a standing offer of being able to beat anyone else with those he doesn't already have deals in place with. i fully expect him to get the best position for as little capital as possible.

enjoy the draft.
