Dungy adjusted to Patriots bugging lockerroom

Recommended Posts

I'm listening to The Dan Patrick Show, and Tony Dungy says that ex-Patriot players told him to be careful what he says in the lockerroom at Gillette. I was blown away by this. DP followed up with a great question, asking Dungy if he treated the NE lockerroom different than any other NFL team. Dungy said yes! He watched what he said.

What's the league rule on this sort of thing? I'm sure there's something...

When the podcast is up for today's show, you can listen to it. It's in the second hour.

I'd like to know when the constant Pats** apologists are going to finally wake up and see this POS organization for what it is rather than defending the "genius" of Belichick. They're a lying, cheating, win-at-all-costs trash heap. Steal opponents' signals. Tape their practices. Bug their locker room. Deflate the footballs so your team doesn't fumble as much.

At some point it ceases to be "sour grapes" from opposing fans...

Cue up the "Dungy is just jealous" Pats** apologists.

Same team over and over and over and over again.

It starts at the top and I think Kraft is as shady as they come.

Yeah but only 42% of the players think they cheat! That's not even half!

It's really true. They are total scumbags and it's way more than gamesmanship and every team does it and all the other bull **** excuses. They cheat. Repeatedly. There are endless accusations. Dungy is not the kind of guy to bad mouth an organization for no reason. Maybe this really is the NFL saying enough is enough.

on a semi-related note, didnt the saints have a similar accusation against them a couple years ago? i think after investigation it was decided that the employee was bitter with how he was treated and it wasnt true, but i really only vaguely remember the results of it.

I faced this problem in a professional setting. There are very accurate devices team security can use to detect and find such bugs. If this problem is real, which I don't doubt, the suspecting team should do what it can to uncover it.

Not sure about that one but this report is plural, as in players told Dungy, not player.

Granted, several Patriot players were miffed by how they were treated. ;)

Micky Loomis could apparently eavesdrop on visiting coaches and he was doing for a couple years I believe. The Saints installed the device in 2000 and it was suppose to be for listening to his own coaches or something but he had it switched to visiting coaches when he took over in 2002. I can't remember the whole story.

This wiki blurb says state police investigated the allegation for four months and found nothing to support it, which means nothing of course.

In April 2012, ESPN's Outside the Lines reported allegations that Loomis had an illegal eavesdropping device that allowed him to listen to real-time playcalls of opposing coaches during the 2002-2004 seasons.[5] Loomis denied the allegation, calling the report "absolutely false",[6] and in August 2012, the Louisiana State Police announced that a four-month investigation had found no evidence to corroborate the allegations.[7]

Yea I don't think anything ever came of it, someone anonymous came forward and gave details of what was going on. State police interviewed people because that's all they could really do and found no evidence. Still doesn't mean it couldn't of happened because they didn't investigate it until 2012, 8 years after the fact.

Yea it seems like all they did was interview people as part of the investigation. It would be pretty difficult to find solid evidence 8 years after the fact, plenty of time for them to destroy any evidence.

yea - i think the person that came forward was found to have been either selling or renting out equipment on the side that he shouldnt have been and was fired for that somewhere in between the alleged time and actual accusation. could be real, maybe not.

didnt mean to de-rail too far, but i suppose this isnt a new topic either, as its been a story from the colts for years.

Sure. And not all investigations are shams of course, but I would imagine Louisiana State Police investigating the Saints would be somewhat similar to the Florida State Campus or Tallahassee Police investigating FSU players.

That's really not surprising. I think there's two big factors in that number being low. One is that NFL players are just trained not to say anything bad about the league or teams or players or anything. With so much of what they say getting blown way out of proportion its not surprising that many players just play it safe.

The other is where do you draw the line at cheating? I think players are much less likely to use that word because so much behavior that is against the rules is part of the game. If you know other teams are trying to record you, do you consider that behavior cheating? If you know a player is going to hold you is that behavior cheating? Are using PEDs cheating? I think players are less likely to answer in the affirmative.

What about first and second year players being surveyed or the teams that never face the Pats from the NFC. They don't really have the experience with the team to weigh in. It would be like asking Bills players if they think that the Arizona Cardinals are cheaters. How the hell would they know?

I would have to seriously think about my allegiance as a Bills fan if this were happening with our team.

Especially since it would mean we did such a crappy job of it over the past 15 years.

we seem to think we know, and weve never played against them

I think you guys missed my sarcasm.

The study first off was done with 100 players (out of 1500 that is a ridiculously low sample size) and then the numbers were trumpeted by WEO saying that the players in the league didn't even care or think they were cheaters. He did side step 4merper4mer's brilliant posting though naming a bunch of different teams asking if players would think x team (rams, cardinals, etc..) would be that high.

This is old news but continues to put dents in the reputation of the pats*** (how many are they up to now?)

What was the result of the investigation after Dungy brought this up back then?

The NFL quickly renewed their agreement with the Officials to give the Patriots the benefit of the doubt on every call (plus five random non benefit of the doubt calls of their choosing) for the next five years.

Wasn't there another one where Pats coaches send signals to Brady's helmet DURING a play. Like "look left Gronk open". Brady turns and throws. Amazing how he always find receivers wide open

I answered him. 30% of all players, so that's all teams. 30%.
