harmonkillebrew
On scenario 1, it's clear they see Kincaid as a different position from Knox - a move TE v. an inline TE. They will complement each other. So not a hurt feelings issue or redundancy like drafting a RT might be. The gaping hole at ILB is too much to ignore if Sanders or Simpson drop. I can't believe Jack Campbell went top

But there's only 1 ball to distribute, and Shakir could turn into our future slot. 6. IOL: another area we have alot of "depth", and spent on Connor this FA. I'm not as big a fan of Bates, but I have a different philosophy with my guards (rather see mauler types and tackles that are finesse). I'd love to see us take an IOL tonight. All this said, if I'm Beane, tonight is spent on trenches. Specifically, an IOL (that could also compete at RT) and a 1-tech DT. Are they willing to bet the health of the franchise player on him performing? There has to be a contingency plan in place. Otherwise, then what? We just have to deal with a huge liability there for the season? They can hope all they want, but it will become apparent pretty quickly once the season starts if this healing time and training camp we were told was all he needed is actually the case. But I'm excited to see what's there. Wish we had more ammo to move up if we wanted to, but we should still have some solid choices at 59. Ideally, 5-6 of these guys will be there and we can move down a bit to maybe add a 5th to try and make up for that 4th we spent yesterday and still get a guy, but I would have no problem sticking and picking because there will be some solid players available. Maybe I'm wrong and the dude looks like a pro-bowler this year. I don't think that's going to be the case, but it's possible. Realistically, I just hope he's serviceable. Not lights-out, but not terrible like he was last season either. But if he looks more like last year's version, they need to be prepared. I don't know what kind of grade the Bills have for Bergeron, but from what I've seen of him, I'd be willing to trade up in the second. I think a rookie Bergeron would be better than last season's Brown, with the plus side that he gets better each year. This offseason, we knew what had to be done...Get Josh weapons and get Josh protection. I'm not convinced we've done enough yet on the OL.

Yeah felt like to me the Bills would have taken Simpson and then Avila.......of the players still available but selected later........in the event the rest of it fell that way. I see Beane tryna' recoup a 4th and moving back into the 3rd.......which would have still put them in position to add Simpson(or Mingo, amongst others) in that circumstance.

Alphadawg7
7 hours ago, Chaos said: I expect to update this later before the second round of the draft starts. But with where we stand right now, I feel very in the dark about where the Bills go next. I will commit before the second round starts though. A side note - this is the first draft in a while that Joe Shoen did not at least help Beane prepare for. Some of the past "drafting traits" may have moved to NY. Offense and being an older player were both outside the Beane era mold. I am not sure how to interpret the first round selection. I felt strongly the Bills would go offense in the first round. To me, Kincaid was not just the player that will help the Bills the most on offense in 2023, but was also the BPA at the selection. But a string of very good defensive players went in the rest of the round after the Bills took Kincaid which indicates a committment to offense. Scenario 1 - Bills are committed to this draft being about optimizing the offense. The next logical step in this scenario is improving the oline. One thing I took away from the first round selection is that while Dawson Knox is a very good and highly compensated player, the Bills did not worry about hurting his feelings with the pick. I don't think they care anymore about Spencer Brown's, Mitch Morse's or Ryan Bates feelings. Based on this line of thinking there seems to be a 1A and a 1B plan. IA is standing pat, and hoping Matthew Beregon, Joe Tipmann, or John Michael Schmitz falls to that position. I think there is a real possibility one of them could be there. It seems unlikely the top IOL players 0'Cyrus Torrence and Steve Avila will be there at that pick. This brings us to the 1B plan. Maybe the Bills are happy to get 2 quality picks in the draft, and are willing to use further draft capital, or future draft capital to move up for Torrence or Avila. The Bills are a pretty complete team now, and I am not sure we need to be stocking the practice roster. So I think this is a viable option. Our second and third rounder, probably allows you to get one of Torrence and Avila. Scenario 2 - The Bills took Kincaid because he was BPA, and that is the modus operandi for the draft. I don't think they expected Kincaid to fall (although a number of internet simulation programs in the last week leading up to the draft did have Kincaid falling). I think other players fans are high on will also fall unexpectedly to 59. In that case I would expect the Bills to be neutral on offense vs defense and pick the BPA. I think this group will include some of the players in this big group: WRs - Jalin Hyatt, Jonathan Mingo. CB's Julius Brent, DJ Turner and Tryique Stevenson Other Defense, Trenton Simpson, Antonio Johnson, Tuli Tuipulotu, Derrick Hall, and Olinemen Joe Tippman, Matthew Bergeron, and Cody Mauch. At this point it is tough to separate what I would want, from what I think the Bills would do. But if all of those players are available, and the Bills are neutral on BPA, I think it would be one of the cornerbacks. The 2B plan is to trade up to take Joey Porter who seems to be the true BPA going into the second round. If he gets past Pittsburg, a 2&3 would might allow us to get Porter. This would be a home run. Scenario 3 - A shift to defensive need - I think there is a fan consensus the Bills current hole on defense at LB and future hole on the Dline with the expected departure of Ed Oliver next year. In this case, I would expect the Bills to stand pat and take Drew Sanders or Trent Simpson, in that order, if they fall to 59. Otherwise it would likely be whoever they think is the best defensive interior lineman fit for the Bills. Keeanu Benton sticks out as the best of the the interior limeman who has a good chance of being available at that pick. Overall, I think the Bills will be best served for 2023 and beyond by scenario 1. One way to be sure to get ones guess right is to list every possible scenario Obvious answer is that it will come down to how the round falls. We have shown interest in no particular order at DL, LB, OL, DB, RB, and WR and any of those outside of RB would be in play for us at 59 if there is a guy there they feel fits the value. One thing we know for sure that Beane won't be afraid to move up to get a guy he feels is sticking out, especially with our overall strength of the roster. There are definitely some guys I could see meeting that criteria for him to move up to get, although they would need to get close enough to our pick where the cost wasn't crazy because I doubt Beane would be willing to give up an early pick next year like our 1st or 2nd. And now having given up a 4th for Kincaid, trading back is certainly in play if Beane isn't seeing the value. Like @GunnerBillpointed out, with so few first round grades this year, the back end of the draft saw a heavier dose of 2nd round graded players go and could leave Beane in a spot where he trades back and tries to get an extra pick. Im torn on what I a rooting for...On defense, I am hoping we end up with one of the LB's of Sanders or Simpson. DL would be nice too, just LB feels more pressing and hoping one of them gets to us. On offense there are still some very good options on the OL to get Josh some more protection, although I am skeptical the guys sticking out the most will get close to our pick. Still some WR's too, but after adding Kincaid I feel like its less a priority in the 2nd and I think a WR run is gonna happen ahead of us. But if we somehow ended up with say Downs after adding Kincaid for example, wow what a potential arsenal we could field next year. All in all, love when the draft is volatile like this, makes all the picks that much more interesting to watch and excited for tonight. hondo in seattle
If the Bills have a bunch of guys with similar grades available, I think they'll choose either the (1) MLB - if he's a rangy coverage type, or (2) OL. But if there's a player available with a much higher grade than everyone else, other positions come into play (though, not QB of course). stevestojan
I’d use the pick on BJ Ojulari, edge from LSU.
