It's Time to Mandate Vaccines

Exactly.

And government will be able to expand this unprecedented newfound power...

It won't stop at just you'll need the vaccine to do A, B, or C.

It can become things we haven't even thought of yet.

This is why the State loves passing laws or mandates or executive action - as many as possible no matter how unpopular or even known.  Get them to the Courts.  Get them validated.  Continue to expand the state and erode your freedoms they mock.

So you go to the supermarket and they ask to see your vax card.  You refuse to show it, even if you have one.  My elected representatives passed no legislation that legally requires me to an obligation to share my medical history with every random stranger that asked to see it.  What will they do?  Just let it slide or call the cops?  What are the cops going to do?  Arrest you.  So millions of citizens to do that.  What's the government and its agents going to do?  Arrest them all.  As its obvious these would-be despots have no intertest in facts or science or reason the best way to deal with the mandates is to ignore the illegitimate mandates of an illegitimate administration.  Resist but without violence because part of the game being played Fascists running the show here is to provoke a response they can use to exert more control.

How big is all this mRNA research going to be?

Very, especially for those who believe in science, who must not frequent this board.

Why do you care if someone does not get vaccinated? People who are able to get the jab have had ample chance to protect themselves at this point. And it’s clear that the vaccinated still spread covid. So why the continued obsession and vilification of the unvaxed? On and I’m vaccinated by the way. I’m supposed to do that right? So you think I’m only misguided not deranged?

I care because widespread vaccination gets my at risk relatives out of this.

I also care because getting vaccinated shows a modicum of common sense.

I also care because the unvaccinated are bogging down our health care system.

I care because people are dying.

But besides that I’m cool. I’ll be at the game tomorrow.

A big problem is the stress on hospitals and high cost to insurance companies and businesses.

Do you think pandemics do not come with a financial cost? I think everyone over 40 should have the vaccine but you need to allow those who don't want it to have freedom to assess their own risk. What kind of pathetic loser tells someone who is healthy with a .0001 chance of dying if they even catch it that they must take a drug without a 5 year study?

And lol speaking of broad brushes under what universe is type 2 diabetes hereditary? It’s advanced insulin resistance caused by (usually) abusing sugar or (sometimes) blasting your liver.

You can literally cure type 2 diabetes by adjusting your diet.

You're right.  I thought diabetes milletus was Type 1 which is hereditary and Type 2 was something else.  Upon further review I now understand that the term diabetes milletus refers to a group of diseases including The 1 and Type 2.

I may have over reacted and taken it too personally.  Its just that I know several "at risk" people that can push themselves away from the table.  Conditions like under going through cancer treatment, kidney transplant, and Type 1 diabetes.

You used the term "vast majority"?  How vast is vast?  I usually take that term to be 85%, 90%.  Now you say 60%.   T here are an awfully lot of " at risk" people that have no problem pushing away from the table.

So maybe we're both right?

How many do you think would have gotten it if they just let everyone in?  How many were at the event? I tried to read the article but I can't read German.

So now unvaccinated people are slaves?  Gross.

Yeah.  I just wish Republicans were more consistent.  Players expressing their free right to kneel during the anthem, women being able to choose whether to have an abortion, and not fighting against workers forming unions come to mind.  In my experience the concept of freedom is only used by both sides when it suits their agenda.

I've given up the fight again women wanting to kill babies.  The Lord will deal with them.  Players wanting to kneel;  guess what, I can NOT like that, and can say F U, and not watch that BS.  And I don't care about people WANTING to form a union.  What I'm against is people being FORCED into a union.  There's a BIG difference.  I'm all for freedom, and if you, Doc Brown, can't see that I'm for people being able to make those choices, and not FORCED into them, then you've got the problem.  I'm not for forcing anyone into any of them.

Fair enough with abortion as a lot of people have deeply held beliefs about it but both parties have found a way to weaponize it for political gain despite the obvious hypocrisy from both sides.  As far as kneeling, the most powerful GOP politician during the whole debate said at a rally that an NFL player who kneels (a personal choice) should be fired. You personally may not agree with Trump in that respect but it definitely got a cheer.

I've always viewed the "right to work" laws used by Republicans under the guise of freedom of choice as a clever way to weaken the protections that unions provide in order to keep wages low.  Even if only 10% opt out it's a win.  Less union money coming in undoubtedly weakens the bargaining positions of workers.  Thus, it hurts the workers by suppressing their wages and protections.  I guess this really isn't the right place for these debates so I'll shut up now.

All this is a temper tantrum by the President and his clueless administration. They had nine months to get the messaging right on this thing and they’ve failed miserably! Now they’re out of ideas because they’ve stuck to their partisan crap and refuse to change the ‘it’s your fault’ narrative. Hey Joe! Why don’t you try firing Dr Fauci for starters? That’ll get the vaccination numbers WAY up over night!

So sad and preventable

He died, unvaccinated, from Covid-19. His children hope his story changes minds

Mark Hamister told his daughter he realized he had made one grave mistake.

"He said he regretted not getting vaccinated," Katie Hamister said. "It was his biggest regret. But it's too late at that point. You can't turn back."

But the man his son calls the smartest person he knew didn't view Covid-19 as a public health crisis, didn't believe he would get seriously ill if he got infected with the virus – and didn't trust the vaccine.

He was a prolific contributor to political candidates, primarily Republicans at the local and national level, who gained his greatest public notice for his unsuccessful bid to purchase the Sabres in the early 2000s to keep the franchise in Buffalo.

I had to show my vaccination card to get in the Rangers at Mariners game and sit in the mask free zone in May.

@Beach Springsteen on Broadway in July.  I showed an usher my card, he took a cursory glance at it and together, we saved a small piece of the world.

I was also contact-traced coming back from Florida in February.  I complied with mandatory testing 3 days before departure, was negative, submitted to the request for access to my phone, quarantined at home the requisite 4 days, tested by people in hazmat gear, received the all clear and got back to work.    Interestingly, or perhaps ironically a fellow traveler on the same plane from Connecticut or NJ was free to roam about NY without test/tracing/quarantine/test/absolution from Gov Emeritus Cuomo.  That was cool, and didn’t feel arbitrary.

I guess the COVIDS was fussy about who it infects, scientifically speaking of course.

Hospital to stop delivering babies as maternity workers resign over vaccine mandate

WWNY-TV [Carthage, NY], by Brendan Straub & Diane Rutherford

Lowville, New York—Lewis County General Hospital will stop delivering babies after September 24 because too many maternity unit workers have resigned over COVID vaccination mandates. That’s according to Lewis County Health System Chief Executive Officer Gerald Cayer, who held a news conference Friday in Lowville.

I understand that Covid is real and dangerous but I need someone to explain this to me. We literally dropped the Flu cases by 99.999% last year but Covid is still raging after more than half the country has a vaccine. My contention is that many of our Covid cases have really been the Flu and both numbers are off by 20+ million.

If it was open, sure. The border continues to be a disaster but that predates March 2020. Stay on target.

That’s a negative. Not hard to find that data.

Covid cases and deaths have been heavily undercounted the entire time.

When we get a solid look at the excessive death totals over the last year we’ll know exactly how many. It’s going to be a very large number.

And there it is! One minute you’re screaming at Americans not to inundate the hospital system…and the next minute blowing off the Covid threat from the border. With all due respect…you’re being a tad hypocritical. Please put down the partisan talking points for ONE LOUSY SECOND and you might just convince people to get vaccinated.

You’re blaming the border for US Covid. I’d say you’re in some partisan whirlpool.

To relieve problems in hospitals related to Covid, there’s an easy fix. Get vaccinated.

Fixing our border problems, if such a thing was somehow possible, isn’t fixing Covid hospitalizations.

- US excess deaths say that’s not likely. https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7015a4.htm
we had 600,000+ more people die in the US compared to the expected value in a normal year.
- The R naught for COVID is around 2+ times the R naught for flu, so it spreads easier than the flu

- Id contend one of the biggest reasons for the decrease in flu is school closings as studies show kids are one of the biggest spreaders of the flu, in contrast to COVID where kids weren’t major spreaders

- Businesses with high touch areas being shut down as well helped that

- US had an all time high in flu vaccinations in 2020 with like 20 million more than any of the past 4 or 5 years.

Basically the flu is less transmissible and major spreading areas were all but eliminated.

Theres probably an undercounting in flu cases as well with people just not going to the doctor. How many people got a COVID test with flu like symptoms, tested negative, then didn’t go to a doctor to confirm the flu? I know a lot of people who didn’t want to risk going to doctors during 2020 too.

No, I’m in no way blaming Covid on the border. Not even close.  I’m saying the administration is yelling at Americans while looking the other way as foreigners pour unchecked into the country. As almost all of those "excess" deaths occurred in people with lots of pre-existing conditions that negatively impact life expectancy or among the old with immune systems compromised from the aging process we should expect to see several years of below average death counts as the pandemic passes and fatality rates regresses to mean.  The pandemic isn't killing off millions of young and otherwise healthy people.  Reality is old and sick people tend to die more often.

Vaccines are one issue.

Border is another issue.

The overlap between them is minimal. You inserted the border into this thread, not me.

Get vaccinated, save lives, get healthcare back to relatively normal operations. It's not that complicated.

They’re dying quicker than they would of COVID didn’t exist.

With older people dying more due to COVID in 2020 and 2021, we should see a decrease in expected deaths or an amount under the expected deaths in years to come.

Theres just no denying there is a virus and it’s killing people that would be alive if not for the virus.

That’s just plain nuts.

The border issue is a symptom of a massive problem in this country.  Millions of folks here, living in the shadows during the era of Covid.  These folks will obviously be among the vax-hesitant crowd.

Thousands of more entering across a porous border, unvaccinated and no requirement to be vaccinated once here.

In theory, you count on the leadership of your country to anticipate issues that will arise from the policies set in place.  To that end, the issue at the southern border represents a failure of leadership across the decades on something that was entirely predictable.

It’s no surprise that we have this crisis ongoing at a time when a 50 year politician is in office, a guy who has been complicit in the clusterf$ck down south all along the way.

But, those who voted for Joe voted for status quo and got status quo.  Predictable as the

rain.

His handling of the border also adds fuel to the hesitant fire, as people wonder “Jeesh, you’re soft-squeezing my nuts to get vaccinated and don’t seem to give a ;:&& about your future citing bloc.”

You're way out here talking about illegal immigration.

This is a Covid thread about getting vaccinated. I understand that many people on this board can't adopt opinions that are out-of-line with their party uniform but it's possible to be pro-vaccine and pro-tight border. But as a reminder, here we were talking about Covid vaccines.

I'm sure I can make some link to Obamacare, Trump's active repeal of same, medicare benefits, the war on drugs, school science curriculums, etc to Covid as well but it would be a carnival sideshow.

Vaccines work. People need to get vaccinated. Punto final.
