Incumbents in house and senate races almost always enjoy big funding advantages. The hard reality is it's really expensive to mount a winning campaign against incumbents. It is also easier for party bosses to keep the ball rolling with incumbents than to fluff up new blood. Incumbency is a big problem and has been for years. Another thing to look at is to get rid of plum committe chair appointments just because of seniority. 10 minutes ago, TakeYouToTasker said: I don’t understand how anyone can look at our government, which has steadily grown in size and scope since day one, power becoming more centralized and more absolute; realize that it has become this way through a democratic republican system; and think that it can be solved at the ballot box. Government doesn’t shrink, and you can’t solve problems created by government with more government. Government should shrink down to a nub, though that’s a pipe dream. I am torn on, but leaning more toward more multi-party participation to decentralize power, too.

The moderator had no choice but to continuously jump in to stop Trump from interrupting. Trump didn't hit his stride until he stopped doing that imo. He started it! This is where we are in America today I’m not sure what you’re looking for exists, nor really should. Absent any prior relationship or interaction between the two, it would be fair to say that Biden interrupted Trump and was allowed to do so by the moderator. As the event went on Trump interrupted Biden more than Biden interrupted Trump, and most reasonable viewers got a sense that the moderator was more aggressively corralling Trump than Biden. At the same time, Biden was certainly much more aggressive with respect to disparaging comments, appearing to come at least slightly unhinged and telling Trump to shut up etc. I’ve said before and will again—Biden has built a career on aggressive confrontation with those who challenge him—from debates where’s he interiors and mocks, to voters, to soldiers, to reporters and young women. His base revels in that, they embrace it and think nothing of it. Most times Biden gets away with it because he’s a very powerful guy, no one from the MSM, his party or his base questions him on it. Biden is and has always been a blowhard and a bully. It’s why he was rejected by sensible Dem voters back when they care about such things. Trump knows who Biden is, his tactics, his tendency for gaffes and racially insensitive comments, and met him at the opening bell and swung hard and often. For all the talk about Trump being aggressive with Biden, all he did was act like Biden. I think Trump also knows that moderators typically lean left, knew where this was likely to go and forged ahead. Wallace was ridiculed from all sides today, from overly sensitive to Biden and overly gracious to Trump, to weak and biased. So, that side of the story become much ado about Wallace, and as time goes on people will move on. Finally, from Trumps perspective, Biden is the enemy. He had a seat at the table with Obama as they set about to destroy Trump and his family with absurd allegations and innuendo. He was knuckles deep in the Russia hoax, and he has no respect for Biden at all. So, no respect for an opponent who has a history of aggressive and confrontational behavior, and little respect for the moderator. I prefer a kinder and gentler interaction, but you reap what you sow. 1
Taraka
https://medium.com/@caityjohnstone/r...d-a9630830b009Russia Could Never Discredit The US Empire The Way These Guys Just DidCaitlin JohnstoneSep 30 · 4 min readWell.Wow.I mean, wow.So in case you missed it, the first US presidential debate was everything the US empire deserves and a fair reflection of everything the US empire is.If Vladimir Putin were every bit the election-meddling demon the Democrats say he is, and if he had unlimited time and unlimited resources to create the perfect ninety-minute propaganda video to discredit the US-led unipolar world order, he could not have designed one more effective than the performance that was just delivered by President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden with the help of moderator Chris Wallace.I mean, it had everything. Both candidates yelling over each other the entire time, Biden telling the sitting president of the United States to shut up on live television, Trump at one point saying the Proud Boys should “stand back and stand by”, Chris Wallace literally shouting to be heard over the unceasing interruptions, Biden getting confused and arguing that the Green New Deal would pay for itself and then turning around saying he does not support the Green New Deal, mountains of lies and nonsense, both candidates trying to out-right wing each other, and absolutely no meaningful discussion of policies that will actually help ordinary Americans at all.It was crazier than any of Trump’s debates in 2016. It was crazier than any presidential debate that has ever happened. You seriously could not have designed a more perfect display to do everything we’ve been told for years that Russian propagandists are trying to do: depress the vote, encourage support for third parties, weaken public trust in America’s institutions, and humiliate the United States on the world stage. The world is going to be talking about this for a while now. Clips from this debate are going to share widely all across the planet. It will be translated in many languages. Articles will be written about it for days. And people who’d never thought to question whether this is the government that should be leading the world into the future are suddenly going to find themselves contemplating that question. And hopefully the next one will be even worse. It is good for the US empire to invalidate itself in this way. The government that has encircled the planet with hundreds of military bases and snuffed out millions of human lives while displacing tens of millions since 9/11 in military interventions that were based on lies, which sanctions, sabotages and destroys any nation which dares to disobey its dictates, and which is escalating world-threatening cold war aggressions against not one but two nuclear-armed nations is not a government that should have any control over humanity’s collective future. The uglier a face that appears on this murderous empire, the better it will be for everybody. In a government that is intrinsically evil and destructive from root to flower, an attractive face with competent management is the last thing anyone should want.It doesn’t matter who won this accidental Kremlin propaganda performance of a debate. It doesn’t even matter who wins the election; the most evil aspects of the US government will continue unhindered regardless of which oligarchic puppet wins in November. What does matter is that the dark, ugly aspects of global power that people had previously not noticed are being drawn into the spotlight and seen by everybody. 2020 seems to be a good year for that.If the imperialists who run things have any sense they will find a way to cancel future debates in the name of national security, because they’re the ones who will be worst affected by them. Here’s hoping they don’t, though. 1 hour ago, Alaska Darin said: Mostly because of who makes the rules. so PPP now has its own moderator. How wonderful a job that must be. Just wondering your thoughts on advisors, allies and former WH officials unnamed? This is not a national security issue, and there is no reference to guaranteeing anonymity. There isn’t even anything concrete as to what type of advisor, the department they represent or why a former official would not be named. I don’t even doubt that some in the inner circle didn’t like the performance, but this reads like a review of a high school musical ending with hope for a better show on night 2.
