With a new coach, on the job for a handful of months, a lame duck GM in place, and not knowing what you had as a team, the Bills were in no position to draft a QB early in that draft.  Once Beane was in place and they saw the team they had, they knew what they needed in a QB.  The timing was just not right for Mahomes.

Yet teams with new coaches and a need for a QB do it frequently. ?

Remember that when fans praise Allen even after he gets flustered and chokes in big games.

Win on the road in Thanksgiving? Win to clinch playoffs on the road in primetime?

He doesn't only choke in big games. He's got work to do but that's not fair.

Get used to it.... especially if Allen flames out. The Allen Mahomes comparisons will be going for as long as they both are in the league here. Bills essentially passed on Mahomes to take Allen the next year. The conversation will continue to be brought up.

But the Bills didn't take a QB that year right?  So they didn't pass on Mahomes.

Look the Bills had a lame duck GM and a brand new head coach and almost a brand new owner.  It wasn't a year that the Bills were going to pull the trigger on a 1st round QB.  And let's not forget that Reid was one of the few NFL guys who saw greatness in Mahomes.

This Mahomes kid is pretty good. Lucky they found a trade partner to nab him

Luckily the team that drafted him had a coach that has a very good track record with developing quarterbacks.

What's worse? Taking that deal or trading up to draft Trubisky?

The obsession and repetitive nature of it is what's most annoying.

Trading up to draft Trubisky obviously.  Poor Bears fans have to live with that decision for the next two decades as Watson and Mahomes make the playoffs year after year.

I can think of about THREE posters here (well, one's been long since kicked) who wanted mahomes on draft day.

Honestly, VERY few here did, or in Buffalo.

People would have freaked out.  It was considered a reach.

Exactly. And yet, ALL these people are here every day crying about him not being taken.

It's irritating, to say the least.

Come on.

These are just lame excuses for a QB needy team passing on the next best QB in the NFL. It is what it is. But to expect fans  NOT to talk about an organization like the Bills who hasn’t had a franchise QB since the 90s passing on Mahomes is silly. Just cross your fingers Allen continues to improve.

Do Bears fans obsess about Mahomes as much as Bills fans do?

We don't get paid to scout.  I can't recall many on here advocating for Allen either and he's been better than expected so far.
