Submerged car with body found after 20 years - it shows up on Google Maps

I live a bit further north than where this car was found.

Those pond things the car is in are all over the place around here.

My housing community has them as well.  I agree the car is very close to land and I'm shocked no one saw the car.

In my community, I see kids and other people screwing around at the edge of those bodies of water all the time. Sometimes fishing in them (!?) and so on.

Can't believe no one saw the car!

The “lake” I lived on in Lantana people had a paddle boats and were out often.

Must be a very deep lake to not be seen or noticed.

Had a couple disappear driving from San Jose to San Francisco on a Friday evening on Route 101 (10 lanes).  The whole area is heavily developed.  Cops searched for a few days and finally someone spotted a car had run off the road into a very marshy and weedy area. At least 10k cars passed by that spot.  They found the couple drowned in the front seat of their submerged car.

They should cover "submerged car escape" in drivers education.

maybe the water level is lower this year?

It's likely.   Water levels in retention ponds go up and down every year, especially if don't have a liner to prevent draining into the sand below.

I agree with posters saying he drove straight through the stop sign into the pond.  Probably fell asleep and ker-splash...
