What injury did he have?

At the age of 30, Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin might be unable to play again due to the cumulative effect of multiple injuries, per sources. There is a real chance that Baldwin, one of the Seahawks’ best and most popular players, has played his last NFL down, a source said Friday.

so whats the difference between retiring and this?  Does this mean he gets paid by the Hawks like the comments on twitter state?

He can retire without owing them almost 3 million

Is he tired of going through the grind or Physically unable to continue?  Seems like an outright release was a dick move if later is the case...  Come September, October he would be an interesting guy to follow.

How is it that so many players from that team have retired due to injury in the past few years?

is that 3 now?

Chancellor, Avril, and now Baldwin...

and all all three were good-great players at one time or another.

Chancellor was great. One of the best safeties I have seen play the game. The other two were really good. Baldwin was under appreciated most of his career.

Yes, and it's significant.

If he retired, he would have to repay any amortized signing bonus remaining on his contract.

In this case, it's 2 years at $3.1M/yr so $6.2M

By the Seasnakes cutting him, he gets to keep the $$ and the Seasnakes eat $6.2M of dead cap.

Because that team peaked like 5 years ago, and that is a loooong time in the NFL. And a big difference on the body between being mid-20s, and early-30s.
