Notable Nexflix / Amazon / Premium Channel Series & Movies

I'm a few years late (which just gives me more seasons to binge), but just got into and am really loving Bosch on Amazon Prime. Smart, gritty, decently paced. I had read a couple of Harry Bosch books way back in the day, but for some reason never watched the series until now.

For fans of very slow burn foreign language fare, Katla on Netflix is worth checking out. Icelandic with subtitles (or I suppose you could watched in dubbed English if that's your thing) set in a remote mostly abandoned town impacted by a year-long (and counting) volcanic eruption. A bit sci-fi, a bit supernatural, very moody/creepy.

The Serpent on Netflix is Very well done... gotta be able to handle some super-creepy, based on a true-story, stuff.

good 70's feel, great writing/acting/soundtrack.  Jenna Whatsherbucket is supercute

and apparently the true story had to be tamed down a bit, as the creators felt it was too weird to be believable.

1971, The Year That Music Changed Everything on Apple TV.  I am about 4 or 5 episodes in, i was 8 in 1971 so i really wasn't in tune with it as it was going on, this documentary is pretty intense.  Once i am done with this I am going to do the ?uestlove documentary about the Harlem Woodstock, during that same 71-72 time frame.  Some really good stuff.

Started watching Schmigadoon on Apple TV, it's a cross between a musical and a comedy....

I watched the first episode last night. Pretty entertaining, but may be a tough premise to keep interesting all series (and I enjoy a good musical). Episode 1 was good.

McCartney 321 is absolutely must watch on Hulu.  Rick Rubin points out things in Beatles songs that surprises Sir Paul.  And to see Macca still get so excited about the music.  Such a wonderful 6 episode docuseries

Also watched the first episode of this last night. Really well-done and will definitely watch more. That said, I really wish Rick Rubin would put on some f'ing shoes.

Loved watching Rubin work with the Avett Brothers in their documentary “Make it Last.”  He’s definitely an eccentric type of dude, but one of the best record producers ever.

The wife and I are starting this tonight.  Was also recommended to us this past weekend by some friends.  My wife has a hard time with shows portraying violence/abuse against children, but she can handle other “creepy” stuff.

Just finished season 2 of Black Summer on Netflix which was a decent watch.  Goes by quickly.  One of those “brain candy” shows that you can watch both seasons in 3-4 nights without staying up all night.

This is Miss Minutes on Loki...

I don't get it... is this why people are on tiktok and Instagram?

Why not just watch porn? It's just as easily accessible.

As a show that I don't think I've seen mentioned I started watching Watchmen on HBO Max a couple nights ago and got hooked. One piece of criteria I always use for judging shows is the Rotten Tomatoes Audience Reviews--significantly more important than the critics reviews... usually.

This show is an exception. I'm 3 episodes in to a 9 episode season of hour long episodes and I'll finish by early next week. The show is weird, but very engaging. I'd recommend it.

Cool thanks, will definitely be checking that one out very soon

As for my contribution to this thread The Woodstock 99 Doc on HBO Max was pretty wild.  I remember what a big deal that fest was back then and nobody ever really talks about it now but the Doc brings you back to those days including some snippets of Napster, the MTV Boy Band v.s. Nu Metal wars, the Clinton Lewinsky thing..it's all there

I haven't watched it yet, but I was there, as a volunteer staff member.  Walking around the site Thursday morning before they let people in and seeing the prices being charged for drinks/food, gave me an uneasy feeling this was not going to end well.

Watched Mare of Easttown (HBO Max). Pretty compelling police procedural / f'd up family drama combo. 7 episode limited series, so not a huge time commitment.

Also just wrapped the final season of Bosch (Amazon Prime). What a great series. Blasted through all 7 seasons over that last 2 months.

Loved Mare of Easttown, but the ending (IMO) was so all over the damn place.  Love me some twists and turns, but the last couple episodes seemed like they were written by M Night Shyamalan on a meth bender.  That said, I would be all in for a season 2.

Ummmmm.... has anyone watched Watchmen.... SO GOOD!!!

I'm actually pi$$ed at all the jacka&&es on rottentomatoes who "review bomb" shows and movies.

Yes, there's a historical backdrop to the show that actually happened (that some people want to deny, apparently...?), but the show itself is one I actually hesitated to watch for awhile because of the aforementioned idiotic review bombing but finally watched and IT'S SOOOOO GOOOOOD!!!!

IMO, Watchmen is a superior limited series. Hit all the right notes - and I hated the original Watchman movie and think the graphic novel is somewhat overrated.

On Peacock - We are Lady Parts is very well done comedy. Young muslim women in London punk band.  Great characters, direction, acting, and story line.  Fresh and original. Six half-hour episodes.

That one threw me a bit.  I never read Veidt the way Irons played him.  Now that I think about it, I'm not really sure what I would have expected, but that was definitely different.

And I'll leave it spoiler-free just in case, but the show was also missing a very key character.
