But wow is it rich in history. A couple hundred plus years ago Philly was where it was happening. Seriously! But Cheese Wiz. Not me not now not ever. One disagreement...weather is much better...it does get hot in summer but mostly very mild...average 10 degrees warmer than Buffalo...of course some may not think that's better.......but I do. I haven't lived in Buffalo for 25 years, and i do live in a nice city in Tampa, FL, but I love Buffalo. He doesn't get it. He glazed over one of the best parts of this city in it's people. My wife often tells me how there is a comradre among Buffalo people. She's watched me for years meet strangers from Buffalo, and we almost immediately hit it off. She says to me she doesn't know people from any other city like it. Buffalo will always be my home. Cheesesteak? Cheap crappy meat with cheese whiz on it. I'll take a Mighty Taco, or Blasdell Pizza any day of the week. Go Bills! Funny, my wife tells me the same exact thing every time we visit, about the people of Buffalo!I was born and raised there, and she is from Pittsburgh! He could have written a decent article about why the players came to Philly to play in Schwartz's defense, the succes they've had together and why. But, no, he plays the Philly-is-way-cooler-than-crappy-Buffalo card. Stellar job. That he thinks Lake Erie is 35 minutes from Buffalo shows you exactly how informed he is. And that he thinks Anchor Bar has "tremendous" wings shows you his level of taste. and level of exploration, maybe if he did more than cheap thrills he would find Buffalo has more to offer Snore.... Why do people get sensitive over this. it's not sensitive, it's called pride in were your from and we can say all the bad we want about it but when outsiders talk trash then you defend it. beef on weck >>>> cheesesteak depends on were you get it, I've had really good cheese steaks ... but not in Philly tho I grew up in Capital District, went to college in Rochester, one year grad school at UB; stayed for five years before moving to Portland, OR fifteen years ago. I loved Buffalo, and it would be my first choice if I ever moved back to upstate. But all of upstate is economically depressed and just not happening. No good paying jobs. I agree Buffalo gets short shrift from outsiders/press and the positives often get ignored. I've never run into people so sensitive about their city than Buffalonians. I also discovered that a significant slice of the population has never been outside of Erie County. Forty per cent of the population lives in poverty. People are still leaving Buffalo in droves. No new highrises downtown in at least thirty years. Twenty thousand burned out dilapidated houses. Go any major city and there are more people watching the Bills than any bar in Buffalo. What I do object to is the attitude that there aren't better places to live than Buffalo. There are. Plenty. We have no empty storefronts. More people are moving here than any other West Coast city. No blight. No run down areas at all. Very few poor people. More jobs than people to fill them. Jaw-dropping city and scenery. I agree with the reporter that no lake is "good enough" after one lives with the ocean nearby. Buffalo is great, but not the greatest place. Buffalo, Cleveland, and Philly are the dirtiest cities I've seen. But I like the "grit." I would appreciate constructive responses, rather than the typical "go to hell" responses. The reporter was actually pretty gentle on Buffalo compared to other stories I've read. Buffalo is great, but there must be a reason why one-half of the population moved out. Actually the entire article is quite pathetic, like he seemingly implies that it's Buffalo's fault he needs a passport to get into another country (and that getting a passport isn't a big deal). Both cities offer so much more than Chicken Wings and Cheesesteaks. I sent him an email telling him i would take the 7' feet of snow buffalo offers over the daily Schuylkill commute any day. There is a layer of disgusting grease covering mostly everything as well, including the people. Buffalo does not have those problems, thankfully. So at least there's that.
