People can move incredibly fast. An officer should be standing at least 21 feet from a criminal armed with a knife, because a relatively fit person can close space shorter than that faster than the average cop can draw and fire their weapon. Combine that with nerves, adrenaline, and things moving as quickly as they do during these situations, taking out four on your own before they could get to anyone with their weapons is pretty awesome. It began when a man driving a Chevrolet Malibu crashed through a police barrier associated with a sports event and struck an Edmonton police officer, throwing him 15 feet through the air. The terrorist, who had an ISIS flag in the front seat of his vehicle, then jumped out of the car and attacked the officer with a knife, stabbing him repeatedly. The terrorist has now been identified as Abdulahi Hasan Sharif, a Somali national who was granted refugee status in Canada. They don't mix well. If we took better care of each other, promoted equality and inclusiveness, we wouldn't have as many mass murders. But also, if we basically banned guns, we wouldn't either (instead we'd be dealing more often with smaller scale knife attacks and the like, since the social problems would still be there). I fully admit that the smaller stuff doesn't really register for me any more (regardless of personal, political or religious motivation), since it's *so* common in the US now. Which, I guess speaks to my frustration over the bigger issues, we just don't care to address anything at a base level, instead we try to blame a religion, or a gun, when instead it very much has to do with divisiveness, inequality, and lack of healthcare (at least imo). When you feel mistreated, or intimidated by 'others', you are more likely to 'act out', for those at the extreme ends of life, acting out can be a mass shooting.
