What a knucklehead...

"It's modern-day slavery, you know? People kind of laugh at that, but there are people working at regular jobs who get treated the same way, too. With all the money," Peterson continued. "The owners are trying to get a different percentage, and bring in more money."

So, if you work for an owner that wants to make more money at the expense of their workers, it's "modern-day slavery"? Isn't this the case of all for-profit businesses then?

Why doesn't he page out of Ricky William's book then and go joint a tribe in Australia and smoke pot for a living then.

What a joke he is. Lost a ton of respect for his commentary. Players should just shut up and play football. Play because you love it and be smart with the earnings you made. You're not gonna win over fans. You're making millions of dollars. Let us fans in on your earnings and maybe I'll support you, otherwise shut up and play football and make your millions happily. Life goes on...

It's a bad economy be thankful you have a job like us normal people. This is as ridiculous as Spreewells comments that he needed more money to feed his family. I think this says a lot about Peterson's own prejudices.

Yep. I guess it requires owning a mansion to feed your family.... Hard times for sure...

Peterson just stated how he feel, maybe he remembered we live in a country where it does state, A "freedom" of "speech"! Have yall heard of it..

Why do so many morons think that "freedom of speech" means there are no ramifications to anything you say? Just because he is free to say something doesn't mean he will not have to deal with the fallout.

So far, no one in this thread has said he doesn't have a right to say stupid things. Nor does his right to freedom of speech mean others don't maintain the right to judge what he says and conclude he's immature and/or stupid.

He has a right to say stupid things and we have a right to criticize his stupid statements. Ain't it great?

Mr. Peterson: Welcome to the working world, jackass. I guess your description would be apt if we didn't get PAID. Only most of the rest of us don't have the size paychecks you do.

the players have no shot in this standoff. unless the league is broken up into two competing leagues with no salary cap, unlimited free agency, etc. the owners are the only game in town and will just wait out the players. If the league/union marriage is destroyed then you have major league baseball with the Jets, Cowboys, Redskins being the only good teams, as they will have all the good players. and that will be the end of the Bills as a competitive team. The more Bills fans support the players lawsuit against the league, they are supporting the imposition of a system that will kill their team. think about it. If the NFL becomes a free for all with NO salary cap and players free to go anywhere (no franchise tags, etc.), the NFL become at best the NBA and at worst MLB.

Which could be good for the superstars like Peyton and Brady, guys that could jump ship to the Redskins for 3x their current salary because Dan Snyder is who he is. Meanwhile, it would most likely be a disaster for the majority of players. Why would you pay a kid $250K to run down on kick-offs or play on the scout team in practice if you can find another kid for $30K?

Another aspect is that it could be a disaster for some owners. If the NFL couldn't act as a single entity at any bargaining table, a team like Jacksonville would have to make it on their own. While the Dallas Cowboys get an exclusive deal with CBS or whatever, the Jaguars would have to try to get their games on the Oxygen channel. They would face either going defunct, moving to a new city, a draconian slash of their costs, or some combination of the former.

Speaking of which, who really profits if the NFLPA wins and the owners cave and allocate a bigger slice of the pie to player salaries? Does anyone seriously think guys 20-53 on the roster are going to see the bulk of that new money coming their way?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but just because the NFL (the owners) does not come to a consensus with the NFLPA does not mean that they would not be able to negotiate with other parties (TV, etc.) as a group. I imagine the league would go on with non-unionized players and pay them whatever the true "free market" demands that they pay. It would be a disaster for most the players as you said in your post.

oh yeah, and peterson is an idiot.

Somebody should inform AP of the actual modern slavery that does occur in sweatshops for debt bondage, or the sex slaves over in Southeast Asia. These people are worked to the bone. He gets millions of dollars and is considered in the richest 1% of the country where he can hire an accountant to get him tax breaks. If he is a slave, then what do you call us, the working class, beneath him?

the best - hes repeated it again, defending it as out of context. also, mendenhall has backed him on the assessment saying we just dont understand.

the only things that remotely reflect any "ownership" is the ability to draft or trade a guy to a city he doesnt want to be in- all that said, after about 4-5 years thats totally off the table with free agency.

Dear Mr. Peterson,

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

First off, why are you putting quotations around the words freedom and speech?

Secondly, wouldn't our criticism of what he said also be protected by freedom of speech? Or does it only protect idiotic statements?

third... you know what, nevermind... :nana:

I actually side with the players...... This makes it really hard to keep doing it though.....

Why? Just because someone made a stupid comment it doesn't change the fundamental issues in play. There are idiots on both sides of this. But the issues are still the issues.

i just made the same comment in the jerry jones/richarson blast the owners thread. i dont get why the average fan seems to sway on how 10% of revenue is broken up based upon who said the most recent dumb comment. shouldnt it be a financial choice, not a who do i like more choice

Hey Peterson, GFY. How about you break your leg, end your career and try getting a real job? Then you can see what real slavery is, asshat.

Tell you what, Adrian...go spend a week picking cotton 12 hours a day in the deep South. On day three, we'll sell your family to someone who'll take them to a completely different state, whether they want to go or not. On day seven, when you try to leave, we'll whip you, then force you to pick cotton for another week.

Then you can get back to us. Moron.

This was published in the Huffington Post? I aint done read me no damn liberal media. You know they probably switched around the quote because they're a bunch of Socialists. I aint sure what Socialism is but I heard someone on Fox News say it, so I've been repeating it a lot lately. You know them folks is fair and balanced. Arianna Huffington is trying to destroy America with articles like this.

If he had said it on O'Reilly, somehow the liberal media would have made O'Reilly a racist for allowing the word "slavery" to be uttered on the airwaves. And believe it or not Arianna Huffington used to be Republican until she found out how much money she could make by spewing liberal hatred.

Get paid millions of dollars, play a game, and can walk away at any time. Yep, just like slavery.

Sad that he is so out of touch .... slavery is an evil practice no matter how you look at it .... playing football especially in his case where he has been paid millions compares?

Anyone got the money to fund bringing a couple of the a-holes to a reality television deal where I put them to work? I'll show him the difference between NFL Star RB and Tobey.

It is ironic on more than one level isn't it?

It's like the good advice that you just don't take.

Raaaaain on your weddddding daaaay

This is the most idiotic thing I've heard an NFL player say since Warren Sapp said: "He snitched and slave master come down. That's all that is. ... Stop a man from doing something that he's been doing for nine years? And so now there's a rule against me. Thanks. I knew (the league) was gonna do what they did because they've been notoriously against Sapp. Like I said before, it's a slave system. Make no mistake about it, slave master say you can't do it, don't do it. They'll make an example out of you."

Adrian Peterson though, what an ass!

When I read Peterson's quote I thought it was the dumbest thing I'd read all day. Seven posts later I stand corrected.
