What a knucklehead...

"It's modern-day slavery, you know? People kind of laugh at that, but there are people working at regular jobs who get treated the same way, too. With all the money," Peterson continued. "The owners are trying to get a different percentage, and bring in more money."

So, if you work for an owner that wants to make more money at the expense of their workers, it's "modern-day slavery"? Isn't this the case of all for-profit businesses then?

Why doesn't he page out of Ricky William's book then and go joint a tribe in Australia and smoke pot for a living then.

What a joke he is. Lost a ton of respect for his commentary. Players should just shut up and play football. Play because you love it and be smart with the earnings you made. You're not gonna win over fans. You're making millions of dollars. Let us fans in on your earnings and maybe I'll support you, otherwise shut up and play football and make your millions happily. Life goes on...

It's a bad economy be thankful you have a job like us normal people. This is as ridiculous as Spreewells comments that he needed more money to feed his family. I think this says a lot about Peterson's own prejudices.

Yep. I guess it requires owning a mansion to feed your family.... Hard times for sure...

Peterson just stated how he feel, maybe he remembered we live in a country where it does state, A "freedom" of "speech"! Have yall heard of it..

Why do so many morons think that "freedom of speech" means there are no ramifications to anything you say? Just because he is free to say something doesn't mean he will not have to deal with the fallout.

So far, no one in this thread has said he doesn't have a right to say stupid things. Nor does his right to freedom of speech mean others don't maintain the right to judge what he says and conclude he's immature and/or stupid.

He has a right to say stupid things and we have a right to criticize his stupid statements. Ain't it great?

Mr. Peterson: Welcome to the working world, jackass. I guess your description would be apt if we didn't get PAID. Only most of the rest of us don't have the size paychecks you do.

the players have no shot in this standoff. unless the league is broken up into two competing leagues with no salary cap, unlimited free agency, etc. the owners are the only game in town and will just wait out the players. If the league/union marriage is destroyed then you have major league baseball with the Jets, Cowboys, Redskins being the only good teams, as they will have all the good players. and that will be the end of the Bills as a competitive team. The more Bills fans support the players lawsuit against the league, they are supporting the imposition of a system that will kill their team. think about it. If the NFL becomes a free for all with NO salary cap and players free to go anywhere (no franchise tags, etc.), the NFL become at best the NBA and at worst MLB.

Which could be good for the superstars like Peyton and Brady, guys that could jump ship to the Redskins for 3x their current salary because Dan Snyder is who he is. Meanwhile, it would most likely be a disaster for the majority of players. Why would you pay a kid $250K to run down on kick-offs or play on the scout team in practice if you can find another kid for $30K?

Another aspect is that it could be a disaster for some owners. If the NFL couldn't act as a single entity at any bargaining table, a team like Jacksonville would have to make it on their own. While the Dallas Cowboys get an exclusive deal with CBS or whatever, the Jaguars would have to try to get their games on the Oxygen channel. They would face either going defunct, moving to a new city, a draconian slash of their costs, or some combination of the former.

Speaking of which, who really profits if the NFLPA wins and the owners cave and allocate a bigger slice of the pie to player salaries? Does anyone seriously think guys 20-53 on the roster are going to see the bulk of that new money coming their way?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but just because the NFL (the owners) does not come to a consensus with the NFLPA does not mean that they would not be able to negotiate with other parties (TV, etc.) as a group. I imagine the league would go on with non-unionized players and pay them whatever the true "free market" demands that they pay. It would be a disaster for most the players as you said in your post.

oh yeah, and peterson is an idiot.
