  1. The Bills are pretty low on the list; however, the ranking is reflection of last years record. I'm not sure that the Bills can beat the Patriots just yet so I think they will have to play for a wild card spot. Will the Bills be better than the Broncos, Chargers, Bengals, Chiefs, Titans, Jets, and Raiders? Based on the first half of last year, they are better than all of these teams. Based on the second half of last year, they will be selecting another high draft pick.
  2. I hope he plays well in camp and pre-season and makes the team. It seemed that he has pass-rushing skills. I think they will try him at strong side linebacker. Merriman is going to be a DE. Carrington is going to be a DT. A lot of the veteran 3-4 defensive ends are going to get cut, but I think that Nix is going to try to hold onto the players they drafted. However, it is going to an interesting training camp.
  3. I think there were several things going on that resulted in a change in drafting philosophy. First, they were focused on finding particular types of players to match the new defensive scheme, which probably resulted in reaches or at the very least fewer options. Second, I believe that they were not focused on winning right away so they were willing to draft players from small schools who could develop over time. They probably changed their philosophy to selecting big time programs since that is where most of the talent is. I also think that the team has gotten more risk averse. I'm optimistic that the defensive players from that draft will develop to become solid bench contributors. Remember, Wanstadt's defense needs solid defensive tackles as well as shut-down corners.
  4. Is seems to me that Bills are trying to build a defense like Miami's when Wanstash was the headcoach. They had a dominant defensive line with bump and run cornerbacks. I'm sure they would have like Kuechly to fill Zack Thomas' role, but I'm sure having a lot of corners is going to help stop the Patriots. I think they will be able to find linebackers in later rounds. I'm also happy that they got a quality player instead of reaching for need like the Bills used to do. Seatle fans have to be going nuts now.
  5. I prefer the older rankings than the more current mock drafts. Between Mike Williams, Maybin or Flowers, I cannot stand when the Bills draft someone who has suddenly risen up draft boards. I prefer to have someone who is not the hot pick. Someone who did it while their were playing games instead of running fast and the combines. The other thing that bothers me is when the mock drafts focus on what they think the team will do instead of what the team should do. Lastly, Nix said there were two or three tackles that could start on the left side right away. One is Kalil. It probably means that Reiff and Martin are the other two. If they need to find someone to play left tackle, they will not be able to wait till the second or the third round. I have a strong feeling that this draft is going to be more like the Spiller draft than the Darius draft as far as the people on this boards reaction. Double head slaps!
  6. I was saying most likely scenario. I was saying worst case scenario. We just do not know what is going to happen and because people are excited, everyone drafted is going to make solid contributions, which just doesn't happen. From what I understand about Adams is that he has all the talent in world, but isn't consistent enough, which implies that he may not be putting forth the effort. I have absolutely no idea how Floyd is going to turn out as a pro. All I do know is that the last time the Bills selected a very talented player at the this position in the draft, they selected Lynch, who has the talent but was traded for a 4th round draft pick and won a playoff game with the new team. It makes me nervous about Floyd. Lynch did have a DUI hit and run. The Bills had a good draft last. They did not have a very good draft two years ago. Spiller is the best pick out of that draft. The Maybin draft was a better draft than the Spiller draft, so I really hope that Nix does his homework and provides the team with the talent it needs to be successful.
  7. I think people are under-estimating the bust potential at #10. There are always busts in the first round, and I think it would be interesting to hear who people think would be a potential bust, but that should be in another thread. As far as the people on this list, Kulchey - Worst Case Aarron Curry - a bust DeCastro - Worst Case beat out by Rhinehart - a complete bust, more likely Ruben Brown Reiff - Worst Case Robert Gallery - a bust Floyd - Worst Case Marshawn Lynch, traded for a fourth round pick - a complete bust Kirkpatrick - Worst Case McKelvin - Kinda of a bust not a complete bust Gilmore - Worst case becomes Donte Whitner - Not a bust; but not contributing Martin - Worst case Plays RT Adams - Worst Case Mike Williams, which is why no-one will draft him in the top ten Glenn - Worst Case Mike Williams - a complete bust, best case is Ruben Brown, I do not like it when evaluators get caught up on size. He moves so well for being enormous, but he doesn't really move well for the position. Ingram - Worst case that Harvey pick by Jacksonville, a complete bust Upshaw - Worst case Can't get on the field because he is too slow and is picked up by the Steelers where is career is turned around to the point where he goes the pro-bowl every year - bust for the Bills There is a huge risk for the Bills. The team cannot afford to not get a player that will contribute. Also, I believe that there is a risk for the Bills which is unique to small market teams. There are pre-madona players who will do just enough in Buffalo to make sure they can get a job somewhere else. Lynch, McGahee were both these types of players, and I really worry that Floyd is that type of player.
  8. Per Brandt, Reilly Reiff is ranked 8th, Martin is ranked 18th, and Floyd is ranked 19th. I sure hope Reiff is there when we draft.
  9. I like Lavonte Davis. I'm hoping he falls to the third round because of his size, but I think he would be terrific especially defending the pass. My biggest concern with Luke Kuechly is defending the pass. This is a pass happy league, and the Bills will have to defend against Tom Brady.
  10. I have no idea how Floyd will do in the NFL. I am concerned about the Bills selecting players with questionable characters, which is something they have done in the last ten years. I know people were upset that the Bills selected Spiller, but the Bills drafted Spiller because of the problems with Lynch, who had alcohol problems, i.e. hit an run. McGahee, Henry, Mike Williams, James Hardy, all had character issues of one sort or another. I would rather have John Fina then Marshawn Lynch. I believe that the Bills are trying to build a team first before getting a franchise quarterback, a similiar strategy that the Steelers had before Rothlesberger. Get a left tackle so a young quarterback can develop in case Fitz doesn't improve, or to improve the chances that he does improve. Wide receivers are a lot easier to find than left tackles, especially since there will be more in the later rounds. I really hope that this isn't going to be another year where the Bills neglect the tackle position again.
  11. If he isn't selected by the Vikings, he will be selected by the Rams. The left tackle they selected before hasn't lived up to expectations, which is why they were mocked to select Kalil before they traded the second over pick. At this point, I'm more concerned they will select Martin, who is the only other tackle who could start on the left side.
  12. Pro-day figures are always inflated.
  13. I think Martin is the direction that the Bills will go in if he is available. The Bills have been lucky to find tackles in later rounds, but generally Left Tackles go very early in the draft. From the report I read on mocking the draft from last year, Martin's strength and power is in his legs not his arms. Nix said there are two or three players would could start at left tackle, and I don't think David Decastro can. 2011 martin draft prospect notes I understanding fans wanting a flashy player like Floyd, but I do not understand why some people would rather the Bills draft a guard higher than drafting a tackle. Also, a left tackle will allow the Bills to draft a quarterback next year if Fitz doesn't work out. Plus, how are the wide receivers going to catch passes if the quarterback is always injured, with let's just say broken ribs?
  14. It is going to be Jonathan Martin at #10. The Bills are going to draft a wide receiver in the second round if not later. There is a lot of depth at wide receiver.
  15. Tackles are more important because they get less help. The Bills have already spent high draft picks on a couple of guards. I can't believe I'm on the same board. For years, the people on this board have been complaining about the play of the offensive line, and now that the Bills are most likely going to select a left tackle in the first round, nobody wants them to. Martin is going to be the draft pick. He may not ever get to a pro bowl or become a hall of famer, but I think the Bills offense will play better with a real left tackle. He or Reiff will be better than any offensive tackle the Bills can get in free agency, lower in the draft or already on the team. The Bills have not pursued any offensive tackles in free agency. The Bills have only marginally tried to sign Bell, kind of like the offer they provided to Whitner. Since Nix said that a team cannot have enough tackles, they will be drafting two tackles in this years draft, and I think that if Martin is available, he will be one. Martin needs to work on his strength, but which player coming from college doesn't, which is why there are training paid for by the team. As far as DeCastro, can someone explain to me why the Bills should draft him instead of Richardson or Barron? Heck, why don't we move Wood to left tackle? Why not play Chandler at left tackle since it doesn't matter who the left tackle is for Chan's offense. As the ghost of posters past, I'm begging OBD to finally draft a left tackle so we can finally rest after years of torment of the Bills selecting Mike Williams over Bryant McKinnie.
  16. There are going to be more trades now that there is a new collective bargaining agreement, since teams will financially be better able to cushion busts in the first round. If the pick is priced to sell, it will do just that. The Bills can trade the pick depending on what they are willing to accept in return. Look at all the trade that New England has been able to do. However, how many impact players has New England been able to draft? I think the Bills are going to draft Jonathan Martin since there are many Vince Jackson type players that will be available in the second round. I have more confidence in Nix than I had with Levy as far as drafting, since he hasn't had any real wasted picks, except maybe Troup but that seems to be more about development and back issues.
  17. I can't believe that the Bills will only select one offensive tackle in the fourth round. Right now, this is the biggest need on the team. I could see the Bills selecting Brandon Mosely in the middle rounds, and I would like the Bills to select Jeff Adams in the seventh as a developmental prospect. They did well with their last developmental player from Columbia.
  18. Martin & Reiff are possibilities, and the Bills could be still draft Upshaw, OMG. Really? This is why ESPN is so terrible? They are both tackles, and the Bills could still draft Upshaw. Honestly, I like Upshaw, even though he would play end for the Bills. The problem is that there are warts for all the players at 10. The Bills could go in almost any direction. Any player that someone suggests the Bills will select, there will be and have been on this board people and arguments on why either the Bills will not select them or why the Bills shouldn't select them. The real problem I have is that I really liked the fact that Tim Graham used to respond to to our questions on this board until some jerk insulted him badly enough so that he stopped. I would read what James Walker wrote before the person who started this thread, and I'm sorry I even clicked on this thread. Can we please make our points without the hyperbole insults?
  19. He played both DT and OG in college, and the coaching staff decided he would be a better fit on offense. I wonder how is weight loss is going. I know that he was expected to lose even more weight. I do hope he makes the team.
  20. I think the Bills should draft Mark Barron then trade back into the first round to select Zebrie Sanders. I think it would be a good pick depending on who is available. Martin would definitely fill a long standing need even if he isn't an all pro. The Bills have had a whole on the left side for a long, long time. However, a bust would really set the Bills back. Can Sanders in the second be serviceable? After the senior bowl, I really like Adams. I also like Stephen Hill. I'm not sold on Floyd, since I worry about drafting another Marshawn Lynch. In some ways, I would be happy if the Bills trade down, but I also know that it would be good that they draft a difference maker even if it isn't an area of need.
  21. I think the completion percentage argument is overstated. It reminds me of money ball. The league and the fans are so stuck on a number that they do not see the other aspects that helps the team win. Teams can't stack the box on him so it opens up the long ball. I do believe he needs time to develop. Manning and Elway both were lousy when the first entered the league. He is a terrific prospect. To clarify, it depends on what they would have to give up. Why not take the chance? The Bills need a quarterback to develop behind Fitz, who I like but he needs to get better too. Tebow is at least as good of a prospect as JP Losman or Rob Johnson. Plus, I think Chan is a terrific offensive mind, who can make good use of his talents. The big issue will be finding the appropriate quarterbacks coach to improve his throwing motion.
  22. It depends on what the Bills would have to give up to get Tebow. He needs time to develop and improve his accuracy on short passes. It is a completely different situation between Fitz and Tebow than be RJ and Flutie. If anything the Bills will feel obligated to play Fitz since he is being paid more. The coaches have already said that the team is in a terrific situation to develop a young quarterback. There isn't a quarterback in the draft that would be better at this point. Plus, he has already proven he can win. I also feel that he fits into the personality of the team. At least on offense, the team is made up of players that other teams have not believed in, i.e. Stevie, Fitz, Fred Jackson, Nelson, Chandler, etc. I think Tebow is controversal because he is religious, but I do not see the issue. He has a good character, and he hasn't killed anyone, beat up his girlfriend, killed dogs for sport, fathered 8 children with five different women. It is weird that people have a stronger negative reaction to someone who is trying to live life based on higher morals.
  23. The Giants left tackle is Beatty, a second round pick out of UConn. Diehl moved to tackle after Beatty got hurt. I absolutely do not want the Bills to reach for a tackle because of need. In the first round, they should draft the best player available, outside of guard or running back. I would be happy if they draft a young player and sign a veteran so the young player can develop. Just like wide receiver, offensive linemen take time to develop. Even wide receivers are going to take time to develop, but I do not think the Bills are done in free agency. I think they are done with the big signings, but once free agency settles down they will be able to fill in more of their needs, i.e. OT and WR.
  24. I would like to see the team use Brad Smith more and more since they signed him for a lot of money. I would like to see him get better at passing the ball which would help the wildcat a lot. The Bills will have to find a least another wide receiver. I'm not that high on Floyd. He reminds me too much of Marshawn Lynch, i.e. talented but questionable character. I would be happier if the Bills draft Martin for Left Tackle then Hill from Georgia Tech. Of course, I graduated from GT so that would make me very happy, but I'm not sure he will be there in the second round. I also think the Bills are going to draft a smaller, faster wide receiver in the draft to replace Rosco.
  25. This sounds more like coach-speak to me. How many times do we hear a coach saying they need new players since the players are not right for their system. More importantly, the Bills changed coaches to fit their players instead of trying to find players to fit their system. Well, except Mario, who was signed because he will fit Stash's system.
