The Chiefs were very Bills-like on their last offensive series. Throws without burning the clock when they should have ran the ball. They’re lucky the Bengals didn’t get a TD out of it.

They pretty much play the same defense against everybody they play.  They might change it up for say a team like the Ravens but thats about it.  Its the same D every week.  Thats why it was so easy for the Bengals to plan to beat it.

My biggest fear is that Beane and McD see this game and their takeaway is that we need to draft defensive linemen. Which is actually probably true but let someone else pick which ones to draft and not until you fix the line and WRs

I was saying it for months. We do not press receivers enough. It makes it so much harder on the pass rush when the receivers have a free release every play.

We just don't have the coaches, nor will we ever. KC never had the defensive talent we had this year, but their coaches are so much better and can actually scheme to stop Burrow.

We drafted a press corner in the first round last year.  Lucked into a really good zone corner later.  
 

Then we proceeded not to press, and scratched the zone corner for the press guy so the press guy could play zone in the divisional round.

Theyre playing press with backups like Joshua Williams.

Running the defensive scheme that Frazier employs also reduces the opportunities for turnovers. If there isn't enough pressure on the qb then the db's just sit back and tackle receivers after they make the catch. No aggressiveness on the back end and definitely never tight presses on the line of scrimmage.

Agree, and it’s not just the clock. They were picking up about five yards a carry. One carry might have been enough to get in field goal range. That was frustrating old school Andy Reid stuff there.

Frazier is a huge part of the issue. But its running the scheme with lack of dline pressure..we predominantly run cover 3 zone concepts out of nickel formations we've run that far more than any team in the NFL since McDermott got here..the pressure has to come from the d lineman in that scheme we just haven't got it remotely consistently .

Frazier and McD basically gave KC the blueprint for tonight. They demonstrated absolutely everything you don’t want to do against Cincy.

Well yeah, pressure changes everything, as it is today.  And on 3 of KC's 4 sacks, it was no more than a 4 man rush, without so much as a zone blitz, a twist or a stunt.  It was just man beating man.  

 

none of our 1st or 2nd round draft choices got near Burrow. 

 

Not that coaching is blameless for failing to recognise it...far from it.  But damn, the pressure KC is putting on him isn't any imaginative scheming.

You can increase the possibility of pressure by playing more press coverage.

 

It takes longer to fight through press coverage than it does to just run off the ball.

 

That extra second or two is extra time the pass rushers have to get to the QB.

8 of their 22 starters today are rookies.  We would have those guys scratched or sitting on the bench in favor of a vet role player.  Unless forced to by injury of course and because they got no experience all season they wouldnt be ready for a game of this magnitude.

So Marlowe and whoever was backing up Poyer (Johnson) were better safeties?  LB I'll give you but Bolton is pretty damn good.  Outside of that we were playing almost all injury replacements so I'm not sure where we were more talented than the players KC has out there.

Our zone scheme works when:

1. We play average or worse QBs 

2. We have Von Miller causing pressure in under 3 seconds

When we don't, we need some creativity on defense and McD and Frazier need to see what other teams do before they implement a change. And that's kinda sad.

It’s all about front 4 pressure. If you trust it, it sets up how you play on the back end. It’s never the other way around.
