Colts release Pierre Desir; signed by Jets

The Bills should be all over this guy.    Probably $6 million or so annual cap hit.   He'd be a better option than Norman, IMO..

Why is he being released?

I have no idea what IND is thinking.  They got enough space to keep him and decide what they are going to do with all the QBs

they got.  Over 52 million tied up in QB cap.  If this was happening in Buffalo this board would melt down!

Tanking for Trevor.

PIERRE DESIR, INDIANAPOLIS COLTS — 87.1 RED-ZONE GRADE

Desir allowed a mere 14 yards in red-zone coverage but that was at the cost of three receptions allowed, with two of those receptions ending in either a first down or a touchdown. It wasn’t the prettiest coverage effort from the fourth-year corner, but he made up for it in run defense. Desir’s 91.3 run-defense grade in the red-zone is sixth-highest since 2006 for a qualifying cornerback — due in large part to the fact he didn’t miss a single tackle while racking up three stops inside the 20-yard line. It was a breakout year in many aspects for Desir, and it earned him a $7.5M-per-year contract this offseason.

Long lean zone corner from a super small school? Yep makes sense! Carolina did scout him in 2014 so there is some familiarity there.

Perfect fit...

"Desir, a long corner that excels in zone coverage and run defense, has proven to be a great fit for the Colts defense led by coordinator Matt Eberflus. The 28-year-old is also viewed upon as a leader in a very young secondary."

I am sure some team with a desperate need for a CB will jump all over it.

I don't know if McBeane feels desperate right now.

The only starting spot they might not feel secure about is CB2, so it might be a fit.

Yep.  If they were kicking the tires on Chris Harris, Desir would be a good, lower-cost alternative...

The one thing that helps us is that Desir is a specific scheme fit, for your predominantly zone teams, so you can pretty much cut the number of suitors in half

I agree - he would thrive across from White, and maybe a short term deal where he could earn even more next year with a great season might entice him. Then Norman is your third with Levi as depth.
