There is no way on God's green earth that neanderthal GM Dave Gettleman would  never trade his prized, franchise RB. Russell Wilson is a top 5 QB. He dragged a ? roster to the playoffs last year. If Seattle doesn’t hand him a blank check they are morons.

 

With that being said, here’s my hypothetical trade that I think makes sense: Giants trade 6, 17, 2020 1st and Kevin Zeitler for Wilson.

You can’t let things go this far with your star QB.  Gotta keep them happy.  Doesn’t seem like Seattle has tried very hard.  Wilson is extremely underpaid and they haven’t exactly surrounded him with offensive weapons.

Quarterbacks who are paid their “fair” value invariably B word a season or two later when teams aren’t able to surround them with talent.

He wants a contract that escalates with the salary cap increases each year. I love Russ as a player but I don’t know if I’d be setting that precedent.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Your only hope for sustained success, once you get your guy, is that he doesn’t feel the need to be highest paid as proof of ability. Those are rare, especially with agents and union whispering in ears.

I don’t think that they are either but it is a huge mistake and may ultimately cost Gettleman his job. While Wilson is a top 5 QB today, Eli is a bottom 5 guy and 8 years older.

if the Giants want him they’re going to have to give up some value.  They need him in the fold before camp be it this season or next.  And honestly, if it’s going to happen then now is the right time for both teams. Gettleman has extra draft capital this year and it will look like he had a plan all along if he brings Wilson in. Seattle isn’t winning anything this season with or without Wilson so they might was well go full rebuild now and add some draft capital (which they’re sorely lacking as of now).

If I'm Gettleman, I'm trading for Rosen and letting him sit and learn all he can from Eli for 8 games to 1 year (if that wasn't obvious from our mock).

I've been saying this to my Giants friends.

The issue is the Cardinals are in no hurry to trade Rosen.

They gave up an additional 3rd and 5th to move up from 15 to 10 to select him.

I don't think they are going to toss him for scraps, which is what the Giants fans seem to think they can get him for.

He's worth more to the Cardinals as insurance for Murray.

Maybe they don't want to throw Murray to the wolves initially, so they'll let Rosen be puppy chow until they feel Murray is ready.

They also have a reasonably priced quality backup locked down for 4 more years.

I just don't see them cutting bait for anything less than a 2nd + 3rd, but I could be completely wrong lol

I’m thinking at least an early 2nd.  Pick 37 seems to be an option for both teams IMO. If someone else gets involved (ahem, Redskins), that could change things.

I would disagree about Eli being comparable to Josh Allen-Allen had a strong year for a rookie QB with a bad OL-I would be surprised if even one GM considers Eli to be as valuable as Josh Allen right now.

So it’s Eli’s fault that the Giants’ defense was horrible?  Who’s the last Bills QB to throw for 4000 yards and 20 TDs in a season?

 

And what does Josh Allen have to do with it? He’s a really exciting young QB, and I’m glad we have him, but so far he has not accomplished much as a passer in the NFL.

I think a lot of his #s were empty.

At the end of the day he looks done for and really worn down.

I think 4k+ with 21/11 line looks amazing for Allen

It doesn't look good for an immobile gun turret of a QB who provides nothing with his legs and is making $22+Milly a season against your cap.

He sure did his first year as I remembered.  So I looked it up.

1-6 record with a 48% completion rate, 6 TDs and 9 INTs.

 

I don't like getting into this guy vs. that guy stuff.  For me it's 1st day of OTAs and I'm hopeful for a good season!
