Thoughts on not making Anthony Lynn our HC?

I'm a huge McD fan. The way he runs this team , feels like he's just a natural HC . He came into a rebuilding situation, Lynn has and had a complete team , so you can't just go by their 18 records.

I just feel McD is a natural and will have consistent success as a HC starting next year when this rebuild is basically over.

McD specialized in defense and the secondary and look what he's doing with 2 rookies and a 2nd year starter in the secondary , pretty amazing.

What does it matter?

one has a first-ballot HOF QB and one of the best RB’s in the game in Melvin Gordon.

the other broke a 17-year playoff drought with a roster full of castoffs that nobody wanted. And Tyrod Taylor at QB.

Anthony Lynn has a hall of famer with McDermott and Beane it is what it is.  A full blown down to the studs rebuild.  All of the draft capital means making it a staging area for the next era in Buffalo making an impact.  As for Tyrod I can understand with concussion issues why Beane and McDermott got worried they didn’t want him going out on a note of CTE.

Right now there is no doubt that Lynn is ahead of McDermott. It’s not even a debate.

With that being said I think that “the right HC” varies from team to team. McDermott tried to change the culture which was important coming from Rex. I don’t think that he’s a great HC at this point but the tone he set was an important one.

You fail to realize that the chargers were 5-11 before Lynn took over. And did I mention both Rivers and Gordon were on the team then too? So yea, coaching matters.

Didn’t look so good today against the Lamarcat offense..

Lynn certainly isn’t a bad coach, but the rivers window is closing and if you can’t get this group into the Super Bowl this year it’s quite possible this is it for them. Gordon Bosa and Allen are hurt a lot, seems their secondary is always hurt for like the last 10 years.

Father Time comes a calling for rivers and Lynn might be out of a job before McDermott if they don’t have a good replacement lined up.

This LA market ?? pressure is on from the nfl to build winners there

Lynn to this point has shown to be a good HC. That doesn't make McDermott bad. I feel like a lot of people look at it as a zero sum game, which it isn't. I liked Lynn, I'll root for him, but I dont think you can say one vs the other is definitely better at this point.

With that said, all of you pointing to P.rives and other *****. I know your aim and bias, you're giving way too much benefit of the doubt to McDermott.

I honestly can't tell if this is a serious post.

If Lynn was still here, it is likely that we’d still have all of the old Ralph Wilson gang running things (minus Brandon). Whaley would probably still be GM. Scott Berchtold would probably still be director of communications and the Bills would probably still be leaking embarrassing information to the press on a regular basis.

McDermott is the main reason that the Bills finally cleaned house after 17 straight years of failure. Im sure some good people were let go, but the Bills desperately needed a fresh start IMO.

So far, I like the way McDermott and Beane have built the culture of this team. It’s not just some buzzword with them. It’s real. Only time will tell how it works out. But I like the direction they’re headed at the moment.

Anthony Lynn but not for the reasons most would think. Lynn has a greater mental fortitude that allows him to separate the rah rah emotion to the necessary strategy. Case in point McDermott is more of a front line coach. He’s not a long term strategist. This explains the step back in 2018 over 2017. A good coach only goes forward with minimal hiccups year 2 is often better than year 1. The excuses for McD are plentiful for this year 2 downturn. My question is what happens when year 3 starts worse than expected?
