Beane assembles "all-star" staff

Recommended Posts

Being a Bills fan is infuriating for two main reasons: Bills and Bills fans. People complain when they retain the same staff, then complain when they fire everyone, then complain with basically every hire they make, and finally complain when others outside the Bills organization are providing positive outlook BECAUSE of those changes....wow....so, have they won anything? Well duh - NO, but neither has anyone else. How about this: we take it as a glimmer of hope, a sign of good changes from all the other re-washed bull-sparkle that's been given to us before, and that we are waiting to see how it turns out...? That's too much to ask? Really?

We're not allowed to be encouraged and yet, not ready to load up the gravy train...c'mon on.

I couldn't agree more with this.

Someone (possibly Ben Franklin, Mark Twain, Albert Einstein, or Rita Mae Brown) once said something like, "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and always expecting different results." - Napmaster circa 2017

So, with that said, I am optimistic with the new approach and how the organization is thinking out of the box.

Have the Bills won the offseason? We've moved on from Whaley and the Ryan brothers, so yes, the Bills have won the 2017 offseason. Schedule the parade!

Trying to be right is something we should all strive for. Not just in fun factoids but in the way we live.

It might be hard for you to wrap your head around. But being called an "idiot" by someone who would use the Einstein "quote" like they're sharing some new brand of intelligence on the world is a bit of a badge of honor.

The way I see it I'm doing you a favor. Did you really want to use that quote again in your real life knowing that it's untrue? Think of how many times you've used it and people just nodded condescendingly to appease you.

You want to be that guy?

Well in your original response you said he, being Einstein "probably" never said that... so I'm doing you a favor by saying in you using probably means you don't have a clue.

Are you the guy that corrects people all the time not even knowing if you're correct in the first place just cause you like hearing the sound of your voice?

My point is... you're that guy on the message board that knows no more than any other guy but you portray yourself as some kind of Guinness and everyone should just listen and follow.

Who cares if I used a quote that I perceive Einstein to had used and it fits the narrative of my feelings? Seriously? Who cares... I like the quote and for all I know Einstein said it. Whether he did or not doesn't bother me as much as it obviously bothers you.

Hey, call coach McDermott and tell him how you feel about quotes. To never use them in any of his speeches. Cause "your" society finds them not worth while.

Rex (Yeah, him) also called what he had an "all star coaching staff" IIRC around hot tub season. Heck, I kinda agreed with it and bought in to all the hype - GRo, Kromer, Lynn, Karl Dunbar was supposedly one of the best DL coaches in the league, Donnie stayed, etc.

Is that relevant? Not really since it's a total different group of people and responsibilities, but simply adding to the theme of skepticism/wait and see

Ha... You called me a "Guinness", I've accomplished something today.

I think rodhack copied my thread idea from the weekend. I wish ESPN would fire him

if this is all you have to post, why must you post it?

Boy street, I talk about Bills too. Don't act like I don't.

I look at the boards as a conversation. We're all sitting in the same pub sharing ideas and opinions. Just because we're in a sports themed bar does that mean we always have to talk sports?

How am I ever supposed to get to know the real you?

Of course every one of us have the right to think / feel / believe what they'd like....for me that's not the issue. I do understand the pessimism, I've been a fan for over 30 years during the great years of Kelly and the worst years since then, but at some point if all you have interest in posting on this board is effectively drizzling the steaming pile of donkey poop on to another person's optimism, I have to question your purpose. It's not like this was Buffalo Bills propaganda, this source and a number of others have pointed to real change at OBD and it is showing in who they hire...that's all they can do right now...there are no live practices, pre-season games or real games....so that's all there is to go on, promise and speculation. Someone doesn't like it or agree, yes it's their right to disagree - but does it really warrant the time and energy to come into a thread that is relatively optimistic and generally based in "Hey, this looks good, let's wait and see what we've got here", and dump all over it?? At some point the culture needs to change with the fans as much as it needs to with the players....and yes, we all want proven winners BEFORE we give hope a chance, but that's not how change works....

Great accomplishment. You really feed off this stuff don't you. If you ever have anything intelligent to say about football or this team I'll be waiting.

Omg... The supposed Einstein quote again?

There's literally nothing tying that quote to Einstein. He said himself he probably never said that.

As a race we need to stop using this quote, and we need to stop using it now!

It's such a "look at me I'm smart quoting Einstein" type of quote. It actually accomplishes the opposite since it's untrue.

Fact checking. It's important.

What race would that be?

As the great George Washington once said " the Bills will one day win the super bowl, and that's dandy!"

Hey, if you can make up quotes to sound smart, so can i, yeah?

What race would that be?

Umm, do I really have to explain this to you?

Yeah feel free. Being I didn't make anything up. Do what you want, that's the difference between you and I. I don't care who is right or wrong etc.

Just want to talk football and bills.

Back to my original response. The Bills have been conducting business poorly throughout the years. The same ole stuff year in and year out. It hasn't worked. The Einstein quote was found online. I liked it, I used it, it fit my narrative. That's it.

If you wanna play historian and play correction games on grammar, spelling or correct individuals beliefs or post feel free to do what you want. It's just folks that just wanna talk sports, football and Bills won't care for you.

But good find on the Washington quote.

Beane has done a great job imo thus far. Seems like a lot of fire and experience surrounding this team. I would like to think it's all gonna pay off.

Plus I'm a guy that thinks this may be Brady's last year. I hate to say it but due to injury.

I think when the Buffalo sports teams stop sucking many of us will have other things to discuss and there will be less time for the optimists and pessimists to fight it out on the forums.

It's somehow a little scary when Rodak writes a positive article about the Bills.

"The people that I've been speaking with have been a little bit surprised -- not from the sense that they think Brandon [beane] couldn't pull it off, but surprised from the sense that some of the guys that were willing to uproot and take roles there [in Buffalo]," Hatman said, noting that Gaine in particular had essentially taken a lateral move to come to Buffalo, while Allen took a lesser position.

And I'm amused by all the posters who announced "AMATEUR HOUR" when the Pegulas fired the entire scouting department after the draft when this ex-scout thinks it was a very bright move for all the reasons he gives in the article.

Despite the potential downside to retaining an ill-fated general manager through the draft, Hatman sees positives in what the Bills have been able to build by shaking up their front office in May.

It comes as a surprise that people would want to uproot their families and come to Buffalo up until you realize that the Pegulas pay top dollar. I've heard from a couple of scouts around the league that the Pegulas are paying top dollar for nearly every position in the football personnel departments; both pro and college.

It's a great way to "get around" the salary cap constraints to buy yourself an advantage - there is no cap on front office salaries.

and this is the Pegula difference.

They want to hire the best, and their intentions are noble !

But even they have learned, the hard way perhaps, there is a rather steep learning curve.

I think it was Nikolai Tesla who said that actually but Thomas A. Edison loathed his genius and twisted his quotes up to degradate his genius

Wow! What happened to this board? I used to get on here everyday for YEARS (never posted much) and love reading all the different opinions, but what the hell did I just read in this thread? Pages 2 - 3 were unbearable! Who are these people on here now? Damn, I take a little siesta and come back to kindergarten class? Sorry ya'll, but WOW!

In any event, I agree with the OP. I really like what they're doing at OBD. Finally feels like a real path. Something we haven't had since the mid 90's.

I'm not going to get excited about an offseason Front Office shake up.

However, I will say that the Bills filled out the FO much better than I thought the Pegulas could do given their (short) track record.

Not excited, but I am impressed. Let's see where we're at in November.

Since hiring former Carolina Panthers assistant general manager Brandon Beane to replace Whaley, the Bills have added six talent evaluators to their front office who have experience on either director or vice-president levels with other teams. The "all-star staff" assembled by Buffalo has caught the attention of former NFL scout Dan Hatman, who believes the Bills could become a case study that could lead more teams to change general managers after the draft instead of the customary period following the end of the regular season.

http://www.espn.com/blog/buffalo-bills/post/_/id/27999/could-bills-post-draft-gm-swap-shake-up-nfls-hiring-calendar

I hope so but it needs to work this time.

Yeah yeah, sure sure.

Show me the baby.

As a proud father I can tell you I pointed out my wife's baby bump more than once.

Nothing wrong with it, though it indeed means very little.

I mean, yeah, hiring an all-star team of midwives doesn't guarantee a talented baby. Doesn't hurt, either, though. And let's face it, there's a major hunger for NFL news, even when very very little is happening, as a five-page thread about the scouting staff shows.
