That's Negan's baby now.

At least half of her is...Damn, what an episode. I really figured it had to be Abe, but didn't see the second one coming. Then when Rick's mind was wondering and they were showing all the other characters getting popped, it was a true WTF moment. So two long episodes and Negan is firmly established as a bad ass psycho. How do they even begin to explain this to the Alexandria crew? I am so glad I record the show and start watching a half hour in, all those commercials!!

The episode in a can was great. The cliffhanger at the end of last year was still a bad idea. Had they bumped one episode or extended the season last year by one, S6 would have been one dumpster dive short of flawless IMO. It was a great episode but the spoilers were easily accessible as everyone knew they would be....that's not the big thing....spoilers would have been available last year too. The thing is Gimple said S6 finale was about showing Rick being broken and S7 premiere was about what happens next.....but that just wasn't true. Rick was only halfway broken at the end of 6 and this broke him the rest of the way. The two episode belonged in the same season.

 

All of that said....it's over now and the show can move forward. It should be interesting. JD Morgan is a really good actor and will be a tremendous addition. I'm sure some of the other newbies will be strong as well.

Sneak peak for E2 looked great. Carol/Morgan. I think they have both done tremendous jobs on their characters throughout the series and seeing them interact was great last year and will be better this year.

 

There was a saying in the series "If Daryl dies, we riot". For me of all the characters on the show to lose, Morgan would be the toughest and Carol is probably in the top 4-5.

Yeah, the cliff hanger was a dumb move. Everything about that episode last night had season finale written all over it. That new beginning stuff was crap. I did something I don't do much and I sat through all of Talking Dead last night. It was one big eulogy. They weren't talking about a new start for the show, they were talking about what these characters meant to the show. They should have shown it last year. But whatever, we're all caught up now and we've got 7 episodes left to see where the fun goes.

 

On another note, has a character ever had better last words than Abe? Ok, it wasn't his most creative, but I'll give him a pass given the state of his head.

Dexter season four (I think) episode with trinity killer/dexter/Rita takes the cake for me though easily

Amazing episode; I'm thinking back to some of the other great ones (the one where Rick kills Shane is up there), but for sheer drama and the discomfort it made me feel it's got to be the best.

That would've been pretty brilliant. Show Abe getting killed at the end, let people stew over it, and then continue with the season premier and go to the Glen kill.... People would've lost it!

Nice. That probably would have worked really well, especially since they did actually show it from his point of view last season.

I'd like to add that I hated Neegan on The Talking Dead. He shouldn't be part of the crew for greed purposes. I don't want fans seeing him as liked by crew members. He should be an incredibly evil villain not one of their friends. I know that this isn't felt by cast and crew, but for the sale of the audience, Neegan should be a super heel and shouldn't be liked among viewers.

Ultimately, that is why I stopped watching sometime in Season 4. I really disliked pretty much every character.

TS-19 is still my favorite, probably because it appeals to my enjoyment of science fiction.

 

It delivered the kick to the nuts and hopelessness without the gore.

 

Don't forget that "New" Jack Bauer and Tara are out in the world somewhere in addition to Morgan and Carol.

I think you can make a case to say that he would have expected to get himself killed, and was willing to do that to stop Negan from harassing what's her name (seriously, so many of these characters name's are so forgettable). He wouldn't have known Glenn would get the punishment, as it seems the only reason that happened was because Negan has a hard-on for Daryl just like everyone else.

I don't see it. I think he is currently the best character on the show. It's because he's been through more than the others from an evolution point of view. Lost his wife....kept it together....helped Rick....lost his son....went nuts....found a guy that helped him....developed a philosophy and tried to stick to it. He's not haphazard and off base with his philosophy and doesn't do crazy things like Gabe, Spencer or even Daryl. Carol has also evolved but come from a different place and gone to a different place. Neither's outlook is really viable but they are thoughtful about it and trying...at least Morgan is trying to get Carol to try "you can come back from this". I think the fact that he went completely bonkers at one point and came back gives him a unique outlook. With the possible exception of Rick at the prison for a while, nobody else has totally lost it and made through to the other end.

 

I love his character. One of my favorites ever on any show andI think Lenny James just absolutely kills it.

Doesn't matter -- the truth is if Daryl doesn't act out, Glen doesn't get his head smashed.

 

They had to write a storyline that took Daryl away, because there'd be no telling how the group -- and Maggie in particular -- would have treated him.

 

Yes, they know he was only sticking up for all of them, but it was a no-win situation and what he did was stupid.

 

By the way, is there a more haunting image than Glen stammering with his eye poking out? Gives me the creeps just thinking about it again.

I don't think that was his primary motivation, he's just telling it like it is. If Daryl hadn't charged him, he wouldn't have killed Glenn. He warned them about doing it (again). And in his mind, Negan isn't a bad guy and he has to think that way to play the character properly.

Tom, I'm using this exact quote tonight, when my wife mentions not seeing the little Grimes Scamp!

 

Jeffery Dean Morgan for my money is a great choice for this character, but while watching it last night and thinking back to the books, it suddenly dawned on me, "Neegan certainly does like to hear himself pontificate!" (Not unlike a certain leader of a certain group we speak of quite often on TBD). Neegan always with the chit-chat! I may start using Neegan and Rex interchangeably.

 

Overall, great episode, but last night came thisclose to becoming tortureporn with giving Carl the old Luke Skywalker treatment. We get it Neegan is a bad man who does bad things to other arguably bad people. It's established now. Let's not turn this into "Neegan's Catch-22 of the Week!"

Did anyone else notice it seemed like Mags was almost speaking in tongues a couple times after Neegan and crew left them? I could understand a couple lines of her dialogue, but other times, either her real accent crept in or she was acting so "distraught" that you couldn't make out what she was saying.

 

Last thing, I promise...

 

Hardwick!!!! Fer Christ's sake can you stop the with the overly dramatic, melancholic intro to talking dead every time a character dies? You're not reporting REAL news for a network. You're hosting a forum. My wife even said, "why's he acting like a therapist for the viewers? We know he's going to be yukking it up in about five minutes when he brings out the first guests!"

IMO he is truly broken but temporarily. A few shows or more. There will some episodes that have no Rick or barely any. Next week looks like mostly Morgan/Carol. Tara is out there somewhere. I could see them doing some goings on at Alexandria before the main group returns....Maggie and Sasha will get some time.....Daryl with the Saviors. A lot of stuff can happen without having to focus too much on Rick.

The point wasn't "Negan is a bad man." The point was "What does it take to break Rick Grimes?"

 

Can understand why you'd miss it, though. That point is seriously undermined by "broken Rick Grimes" and "badass Rick Grimes" basically indistinguishable, given that Andrew Lincoln's interpretation of the character seems to be limited to "greasy, sweaty, disheveled, bug-eyed Rick Grimes."

Wow. I definitely liked Glen. He grew up a bit on the show but he probably had the most normal life of anyone and he did it by remaining himself. Well, maybe not all that normal.....no way does he get anywhere near Maggie's bed unless a zombie apocalypse hits, so good for him.

They had to go long on Negan violence because the Governor character and storyline was underwhelming.

 

Otherwise it's Rick and the Battlin' Milita knocking off the villain of the week.
