This most definately is not the same old bills

- Front office shake up taking decisions from the meddlesome owner (god bless him though)

- Drafts THEIR quarterback

- Brings in one of the most highly regarding defensive coordinator's in the league

Look guys....I have no idea what is gonna happen this year but I have said it a long time ago that nothing changes with this team until the TOP MGT of the bills changes

That's one (optimistic) way of looking at it.

Lots of unprovens in play here.

I'm working up to a point where I can allow myself to muster some hope again. It's taking me a little longer this year than in the past. I'll see this team as "not the the same old" when the wins start piling up. Speculation is cheap. Every year for the last 13 there has been some fresh argument to be made about why this year will be different. SHOW me.

top management is russ who has been with the team all decade

whaley was hired years ago to be groomed for this transition

im not sure you can say its worlds different or that its the plan we saw a few years ago but with the pieces coming together the right way. i dont doubt we wouldve taken harbaugh if we could have - he turned us down, marrone didnt. i dont doubt we wanted an attacking 34 defense - we publicly stated it. i dont doubt we wanted whaley at GM, we hired him to be asst gm. if cam was available to us, or luck, or RG3 i bet we wouldve taken them - we havent passed on anyone successful in the first round.

success is opportunity meeting ability and right now i feel like those opportunities are actually showing up and we are taking advantage of them. we will see how it pans out.

Numerous arrest records in one draft...

Loved a quote an analyst said where good teams have the most "guys you'd want on your side during a bar fight"...can be interpreted many ways but its a different mentality around there for sure.

It was not an overnight re-define but the upper management has transitioned in the last couple of years.

The question is whether people think the organization can really re-define itself when the owner and his right hand man are still the same.

I believe it is possible but I completely understand the skepticism of others.

The real question is if Brandon will run the team differently than when Ralph was running it?

The recent hires and moves certainly feel different.

I was shocked to see the Bills pick up K. Kolb. The fact that they did an exhaustive amount of research on the QBs in the draft and appear to have selected one who is big, fast, athletic, has a strong arm, and can be a running threat is a very good sign. Manuel and Kolb will give us a chance to compete. There has also been a definitive plan to get faster as a team. That is quite obvious. I would still like to see them continue to help themselves via FA and via trade this offseason. There are still quite a few vet FAs available who can fill holes and really help this team. I think they still need to obtain at least one proven CB or they could be in trouble. I do have high hopes for CB N. Robey.

Eh, I'm not feeling the 'change' that the Bills are trying to sell.

Russ is still Ralph's guy. He hired one of his Syracuse buddies with Marrone. The plan was always for Whaley to replace Nix, and he shoulders some of the blame for this team being awful. And most importantly, the team still looks bad.

The team looks bad to you?

Do you see any reason for optimism?

I have to agree. I know it's only about wins, but if you subscribe to the "madness is repeating the same actions and expecing different results" logic, then this sure ain't the same old Bills. 13 years of futility or not -- I'm getting pumped.

i think it's safe to say that it's ON LIKE A MOFO!

In retrospect, Thurman was dead nuts on this. Also in retrospect, this would have been a far better markeing pitch than what we're using now!

I'm not excited because there isn't much out there but question marks. On the good side there are interesting question marks at the qb position. The bad question marks are still the offensive line and a less than stellar defense. Let's see how it all shakes out in the first few games. So much is riding on the coach and his staff as I don't see any significant improvement in player personnel.

Your posts are earily familier to "airseven" from the buffalo bills message board.

The Bills basically have dated the girl who has been passed around the school several times over. She keeps cheating us, we keep taking her back, and hope she will change. Now, we got the cute new girl. We don't know how it will end but at least it's not the same old tired girl.

We all want them to "show us". I guess it's just a matter of what do you want to do in the meantime and I respect both ways. Optimism doesn't effect anything nor does not getting excited until/if it happens.

I'm in, but I fall for whatever changes are made every off season. Draft picks, new coaches, guys coming back from injuries, FA signings. I've expected playoffs every season since the late 80s. This time, however, it does feel a bit different.

True. Most years, I'm all in by draft time. This year it's taking a little longer for that feeling to soak in. I guess I've just been hurt too many times. I'll get there. I like the enthusiasm from the new coaching blood. I think it was a good draft. I like what little I've seen and heard from EJM.

Can this thread topic changed to 'Bills don't know wtf they're doing! One day Buddy is GM and the next Whaley is GM!'

Well, I guess that would be true every time a team makes changes . . . funny how that works.

Count me in with the 'it feels different" crowd. I still think we have a lot of holes to fill. And we will be counting on a lot of rookies and first timers as coaches.... But I have hope. I don't know if EJ is any good, or if Marone is a decent coach, or even if Whaley will be a good GM. But I sure will enjoy the ride. For the first time in years, I am excited about this team. No more retreads!

At the end of the day, I'll just chime in and say different is better than more of the same. Sure, the team has a ton of "TBD's" in the lineup. Regardless of that, can anyone say that they would like another year of Chan Gailey and Ryan Fitzpatrick? I for one will decline that option, even understanding our unknowns. The offense and defense have both been below average for almost a decade. You really have to ask the question as to whether it could really be any worse. I'm excited to see what Spiller can do this year on offense. If Mario can have a whole season like he did in the second half last year, it will be fun.

I know we're saying differently right now, but most of us were saying it felt different last year after they pursued and landed Mario. Not trying to burst any bubbles, but rather I think it all reveals that it's a process. As NoSaint says, opportunity needs to meet ability, and there needs to be some good fortune on the injury front as well. What if the team had a healthy Eric Wood and didn't lose a LB all season? OTOH what if an injury to a guy like Kolb opens the door for Manuel to step in and take over? Who knows what could happen?

I feel the same. Some thing about this feels different. A few years ago when the Bills blew a game against the Dolphins, I turned to my nephew and said that nothing would change until ownership changed. Maybe giving Russ complete control is enough.

Same old Bills would be if Lovie Smith were the coach, they take Geno with the eighth pick and the rest all from the SEC and ACC.

It is at least going to be interesting

Most Teams fire the GM then do a SEARCH for a new GM! Bills did not even look for new guy and just picked Whalye cause CHes Rhineheart is a the sixth Sailor Scout from Sailor Moon!

I'll put my Avatar shot of the Buffalo crushing Brady in a pink sweater on there. Yee Haw !

Heres my take on you guys. In general of course.

Some need to see stat or better yet wins ! fair enough.

Some folks dig up info on the subtle tweaks and consider the future.

Others struggle to have enthusiasm while a a very few are actually "homers " . I am one of those.

But whether the team does well this year in the win loss column is not what i measure with.

Is the team going to be exciting ? Will they play to the fullest each game and come off the field having given their all ?

That means the coaches have earned the respect of the players and believe in the system.

Buddy did a lot of things in the background we did not see as well the teams he put out there.

He rebuilt the scouting staff and improved the processes by hiring the right people. These guys looked and acted as ready as they could be this draft.

I measure the Bills in a different way than some and they have done enough to keep me very interested with what is going on with the team and enthusiastic about what is up and coming.

The football stars are about to align for us fans after many years. and i think we have a healthy future ahead. The

train is finally on track and picking up speed. Enjoy the ride !

No one can blame you for your decision to temper your enthusiasm and we all know and understand the reasons why. Like I said before, in reality our emotions have no effect on whether the team moves forward or not. But I want to convince you to get excited.

If not for any other reason - E.J. Manuel. We drafted a QB fellow Bills fan and he passes the eye test. This is something very unusual to get excited about unlike the past. The unknown of Edwards was the last time I had the opportunity to fathom a franchise QB. I never thought that guy was Fitz. But we know have a new lease on excitement with Manuel.

For me E.J. is the primary reason but here's why I'm particularly ecstatic; All the great QB's in the league seem to have a great relationship with their head coach. Marrone seems like the ideal coach to build relationships with players. I believe he commands respect and the players will fear him a little but will also love him. I also believe E.J. is the relationship type player.

Then the secondary reasons for my renewed enthusiasm is Pettine, the new wide receivers along with Stevie, our great running game, and the young Hackett.
